Garmin talk

I've recently been annoyed by something my Nuvi 760 does. I'm constantly gettting 1mph and 2mph alerts while out driving the surface streets here in the LA area.

It SEEMS to often coincide with stop lights, but I gotta spend more time watching this close to see for sure....

so whjats that about?

I'm playing catch up on gpx files. When I try opening, the message "Window needs to know what program created it". Have now idea where to go from there. Have only used csv files in the past.

I purchased nuMaps Lifetime Update from Amazon (saved $20). I activated it on Garmin's web site and downloaded the update. That took about 1 hour. During the extraction phase, I got a message that the file was corrupted. Re-downloaded it (another hour) and used WinRar (Garmin's suggestion) to extract it. Again a message that the file is corrupted.

Looking for a basic GPS and thinking of going with the 265WT, but wondering if the traffic updates are worth the increase in price. I've read where they are often times 30-60 minutes behind real time.

Are the 255W or 260W equally as good, just without the traffic?

I've got my new 265wt updated and ready to go. I have been reading the posts here and trying to figure out how to do the POI's. I would like to download School Zones for NC and SC if there is such a thing. I would like some kind of alarm or notice when I get near the zone.

OK - everybody else knows how to go off-road with a nuvi 780 but not me! I was riding on a railroad speeder excursion in West Virginia (see www.narcoa.org to learn what a RR speeder is and what a cool hobby it is!!!). We were running down the tracks but Garmin insisted on snapping back to the nearest road at every available opportunity. I finally found 'pedestrian' mode but that didn't do it.

Looking to upload all the Lowe's warehouse stores. Could not find them. New to this site.

I have TWO PROBLEM ISSUES with POIs.

1. What are the pros / cons of putting Custom POIs directly on the Nuvi versus on an SD card?

I have an 855 and am brand new to using Custom POIs. I have looked through various POI FAQs here, but haven't seen any discussions regarding the above question, or the following issue.

Hello to all here in POI factory! I search the site to see if someone had this problem, but I found nothing about it.
My problem is that I have Mapsource and now does not open, and when I try to open the message is this:
There is a problem with the Family 951 installation
Please re-install Family 951 and start MapSource again.

I'm going to Manhattan, NY next week and I'm looking for POIs of attractions in Manhattan (Statute of Liberty, World Trade Center, Madison Square Garden, Central Park, Financial District, Little Italy, China Town all the sites a regular tourist would like to see...

I was driving home today and heard a beep. I looked up and saw that the message on the screen said something like GPS updated. I pressed ok, and it went about searching for satalites. It then poped up again GPS updated. I pressed ok once again and left it alone. The screen then went black and that's all it does now. It sits there as if turned off and will not come back up.

My Garmin was working fine and then all of a sudden..stopped! When I turn it on, it shows the Garmin screen and "loading maps", then it just shuts off!! Where should I take it for repair? Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

I loaned my nüvi 255W to a friend (I know – DUMB) and when it came home the TSS no longer functioned. I quickly determined that the proper voice and language were selected and that the MUTE function had not been engaged. All other functions worked properly – including proximity alerts – just no voice.

Is there a way to remove older map versions from Mapsource? Each version (as in 2007, 2008 and so on) take up 1 GB of disk and if I hae a newer version - I really don't need the old version.

I transferred a bunch of POIs from Live.com (now known as Bing) maps to my new nuvi 755T. Now I learned here that each new POI loader session will overwrite what's already on the GPS sensor, which would wipe out the points from the web.

How can I extract those custom web points from the GPS to my computer? I want to combine them with others already on my computer from POI-factory.

I originally installed the cameras, shell, walgreens, and other poi files on my 760 unit.

I'm now installing for my aunt's 255w unit she just bought but I don't remember some of the individual POI settings I selected for my own unit!

My Nuvi 360 has the North America NT 2009 installed. In my SD card, I have the Europe 2009 maps. Question: How can I install The europe maps on my Nuvi from my SD Card. Also what is the best way to switch between the two maps back and forth.
