Garmin 255W POI question

Greetings,

I just joined this forum and am looking for help. We are new to GPS devices and their options. We are planning a trip to Seattle Washington and want to stop at Yellowstone. I found a Yellowstone POI on the web and then downloaded it. I then used the Garmin Uploader to place it on the 255W. When I look for it to see if it is there I can't find it anywhere. The poi.gpi file on the 255W has the correct date for the UpLoader change.

So do the POIs just show up as you get close or what do I do now? I was thinking that I would like to see them before I got there.

Thanks for your help!

.

Have you looked under Where to? > Extras > Custom POIs ?

Try this - Where to>Extras

Try this - Where to>Extras (it on the second screen - have to scroll down)>Custom POIs (it a button - select it). You should see your file names minus the extension. Select the file you want. Your POIs should show up. Select the one you want and select GO or Map toview.

You have to be zoomed into 300' to see icon(s). It will be a grey dot unless you also load an bmp icon.

Simulation Mode lets you place you location near POI to test quickly. Try Search for more information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks for the guidance. Yes they are there. Looks like the programmers should have placed custom POIs under POIs for folks like me.

I guess that since they are there they will show up when we get close. Correct?

Sorry if this sounds dumb but this is the first time out of the box.

Thanks!

They will show on map as

They will show on map as grey dots if you are zoomed into 300'.

You can set your location near desired location using Simulation Mode, select Custom POI file, and the closest 50 will display.

If you don't already have it on your list to stop make sure you see the Grand Teton National Park located right by Yellowstone. http://www.nps.gov/grte/ and have your camera ready.
