Garmin Nuvi 885t

Have problems been occuring? Seems like the latest update was May 13. So far (knock knock) no hang ups with mine.

It may have the GPS Update bug. Use Web updater to keep the unit from hanging.

I kept getting the following Error Msg when trying load the new City Navigator North America 2010 map update “There was an error communicating with the internet”. The problem was that although the base software was updated to ver 4.50 when I registered the unit on the Garmin website on June 20th I still needed to update to ver 4.60 WHICH WAS JUST RELEASED WITHIN THE LAST DAY OR SO. For some reason "Webupdater" couldn't or wouldn't do the update. I had to go to the Garmin website & log into "Mygarmin" and use the "myDashboard" to load the new ver 4.60 main software update, once that was done, the new maps update loaded fine. I Recommend that before anyone even thinks about trying to load the 2010 maps, make sure the main software ver is at 4.60

Away for awhile. Recently received the 885T as a gift. Downloaded the latest map update, no problems with the exception that the voice directions in navigation mode are not loud enough

You can check the past threads conc. the text editor.
It can assist you in enhancing the voice file.
I have to reinstall it tomorrow, as my Nuvi lost the updates when I installed Garmin's patch for the bug that froze their 700 and 800 series GPS's.
You can also change some of the prompts to say what you wish.
It is great to watch the faces of those in the vehicle with you, when the voice sounds as if it knows you personally based on what you changed it to say. Great feature.
I believe it is called the TTS editor.

In the September issue of Consumer Reports, they rate Nuvi 885T as number 1. In fact has rated 4 Nuvis in the top 5 GPS systems tested!
