Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

Last trip: RV Expo & Craigslist

The Garmin got us there just fine. Wish Garmin had a category for "free parking areas". It cost $10 to park, plus admission.

To top things off, the show was very small. We were told that because of the economy many dealers chose not to exhibit.

We are looking for a small motorhome. There was only one there. All the rest were pull along trailers.

There is another Expo in R.I. next week, but heard the same thing aabout fewer exhibitors.

Guess I'll keep checking Craig's List. Not happy so far with the ones we've seen from there. So many misrepresent a/k/a LIE about the condition of the vehicle.
I found this link last night that people can leave feedback for these bad sellers.

The only way I can do that is for one of us to stay home.

Freeport Grand Bahama

Just went on a recent 3 day trip to Freeport, Grand Bahama. I was stationed there in the 80s when the Air Force Base was still open. I don't have anything loaded in MapSource on the island, so I turned on the "Trip Log" on my nuvi 680 and proceeded to map out the island in 'Off Road' mode as I drove around. BOY, WAS THAT A HANDY TOOL! It kept us from getting lost while exploring populated and unpopulated areas. I have created POI files for Freeport in both CSV and GPX formats and will share with POI-Factory. We are going back to Freeport for a full week in the coming months and I intend to add both the East and West Ends of the island, once again using TRIP LOG. There is a way to extract the Trip Log using MapSource. Again, a very handy feature.

Found my lost Camera!

On a hiking in northern Scandinavia I lost my way, because I thought I could recognize the path to the cabin I planned to spend some days with my friends, in stead of using my GPS. Fortunately it was in the middle of the summer, no black night, could walk until I found my way back, and lots of free, delicious drinking water. I was careless having the strap of the camera hanging out of my pocket, while walking through the bush land, and lost it. I found my way back using the GPS, although I had to cross several streams 3-4 feet deep. The short version is, next morning I decided to find the camera 5-6 miles up in the wilderness, because I have made a track on my way out. My GPS at that time was a GPS12, not very sensitive in the forest, and having an effective accuracy on say 5-8 meters (15-25 feet). After 3 hours searching back tracking, I was so lucky to find my camera hanging on a branch!! Fortunately it had not been raining that night. Pic of the spot:

And some of my best pictures was in the camera!!
Take a look at the pictures from the National Park.

Well, I made it down and back. No launch. Not till Sunday, anyway. No tickets, either. Only saw a couple of cops, they weren't interested in me.

I did have one show up on the rear bumper with all lights on. It took me a minute to realize that the third headlight in the middle of his grill was a crotch rocket he was chasing and not after me.

Here is a picture of the trip page. All the "moving" time was in two seperate chunks. Stops were only for gas, nature and food. The max speed is a lie. I reset it a couple of times for self preservation. No need giving the cops a freebie.

Garmin Nuvi 750

My last trip,

was a work run out Nevada. (Reno, Carson area). I came home and ordered a Nuvi 255w. I'll be heading out to Texas in 2 weeks on a work run and then taking a few days to run up into Kansas to visit with son and his family. They have a 5 month old daughter that we haven't seen yet. I hope the 255w max speed is more accurate than the max speed on my c340. It would be hard to prove to a police officer that I wasn't speeding by showing him my Max speed when it constantly reads 200 plus MPH! No, I don't fly to work. razz New 255w should be here just in time before we take off. I can hardly wait!

Settled a dispute

I wanted to go to the Nike Factory Store in Kenosha. I said it was another 15 minutes from 7 mile road. My wife said it would be half an hour. We brought it up on the Nuvi, and it was half an hour.

used it in SF

I was in the Bay Area last week for work, so I used it out there.

GPS on Wine Tasting Tour

It seemed like a good idea at the time. We were vacationing in the Yakima wine region in Washington State. At the time I couldn't find any Lat/Long data for any of them so I marked a waypoint in each parking lot. For some reason as each day and the vacation progressed, I became less diligent in adding the winery's name to the waypoint.

40 some waypoints and no idea if I want to go back, and not postable as a POI.

Sorry.
