5.2 GB
There's 5.2 GB on the NUVI and 0 on the SD.
5.2GB sounds about right. My 3597 has 6.6 GB, but it has the gmapdem and 3d buildings maps and probably a couple of .SID files that your 2595 nuvi wouldn't have.

I was a little concerned about that, thanks.

Finally! Got the new maps on my Zumo 550
Learned a lot going through this process. I'll try to keep what I did as short as possible. Special thanks to EdY, AlanB, CraigW, and Frank508 for all their help. The following do not support installing maps on an SD card:
Nissan 700
nuvi 295
nuvi 300/500/600/800/805 series
nuvi 5000
zumo 450/550/665
GPSMAP 640
Aviation devices
The work around is to install all the maps to your computer and whatever you are offered to your Internal memory using Garmin Express. I needed Lower 49 NE, I could only fit Lower 49 SW.
I installed through a USB cable with the 4Gb SD card installed in the 550 through a USB2 port. Took some time to do it, but it works. I do not have an SD card slot in my PC.
Then use Garmin MapInstall to load whatever you want from your PC to your SD card. When it recognizes your Garmin there will be a drop down arrow and that will recognize your SD Card. The rest of the lower 49 took a little less than 500K. When you turn it on it knows which maps to look at, there is nothing you have to do in the Settings.
For a complete explanation go to: https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/faq/textsearch and search for Reinstall Maps.
Thanks again guys. Ride safe, Shoot straight!

Updated 3 of 4 devices I have. The third one 1490 gave some problem. The map update will start and then fail. I suspected desk issues. So ran disk check and fixed the issue drive issues. After that ran map update again finished successfully.

Seems to be very accurate in Mexico except for the speed limits.

Oops!
All set to update the maps on my nuvi 660 with MapUpdater but get the error: A connection to the server could not be established.
Tried it from 2 different PCs, same result. Never had a problem with MapUpdater before so I guess I'll assume it's a Garmin problem and try again in a little while.

I and others have had that problem. Try again in a few minutes and it'll probably be good to go.

Almost
It connected 1 time but when it displayed the box to select the map to update, the box was empty. I closed MapUpdater and tried starting it again, but was back to the original error and MapUpdater won't even start and get to the main window.

Not sure
It seems to work for some but hasn't for me for a while, Express though has been rock solid.

So, I gather that none of the above can work with maps loaded on an SD card then?
Not quite correct
They will work with maps on a card but Express isn't able to install them for you. You need to follow the procedures above.

Map updates to these old devices can still be done but it won't automatically be done with Garmin Express or GarminMapUpdater:
https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={a209e880-9319-11e2-65d0-000000000000}
Complicating this even further is that your two nuvi 3x0 devices can not read files greater than 2GB and a full map update is now more than 2GB:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42561
To update the nuvi 3x0 devices to all of North America, you will need to install the map update to device and computer, placing part of the map in the nuvi, then using your computer's MapInstall to install the remainder of the map update to a SD card resulting in all of North America being split between two files, each less than 2GB.
In addition to the Garmin-recommended procedure above, you can also use the clone technique:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39231
Keep in mind that if using the clone technique, you still can not install all of North America to a SD card for use in either of the two 3x0 devices since the resulting map will exceed the devices' ability to read files greater than 2GB.
This all assumes your three older devices have lifetime map updates. If not, it's probably better to buy a new device with lifetime maps rather than add lifetime updates to these older models.
Happy updating and shout back if problems arise.

Just tried again with MapUpdater. Same error. Has Garmin ended support for MapUpdater? Am I going to have to use GE?
Gary, I don't know what to tell you. About three weeks ago, after three or four failed attempts (the failed attempts were over a span of only 30 minutes or so), MapUpdater finally connected to the Garmin servers and worked flawlessly to update my Nuvi 1450. FWIW, my browser is IE . Maybe if you downloaded a fresh copy of MapUpdater? Perhaps that's grasping for straws, but I don't have any other ideas. Good luck.

I don't see MapUpdater on the Garmin site anymore, only from websites like download.com. I have version 3.3.4 installed on 2 PCs and where both worked before, now I get the same error on both PCs.
I've used this version flawlessly on both PCs to update my 660 and BaseCamp until now.
I'm recently switched to OpenDNS due to an ISP problem a couple months ago. I wonder if that may be the problem. It shouldn't matter what web browser I use as MapUpdater is a standalone program.

Just use Express
If it were me I stop wasting time and just run Express ... You may be pleasantly surprised
If it fails too then maybe it is your system at fault.

GMU

Garmin still offers GarminMapUpdater but it's not easy to find:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39873
As long as Garmin is willing to support older Windows versions, it will need to keep offering GMU (or make Garmin Express compatible) since Windows XP users currently can only use GarminMapUpdater for map updates. To my knowledge, Garmin's web site only offers a link to get GMU when an old Windows XP PC tried to install Garmin Express. The Express option won't work and Garmin links you to the GMU download in its place.
When I last checked, GMU 3.3.4 continues to be the latest PC version.
Some Testing
So I changed my router's DNS servers from OpenDNS to my ISP's (Frontier) default DNS servers. Same error.
I then changed to Google's DNS servers and low and behold I was able to run MapUpdater without the error. I thought I was golden.
Previously, I was able to load the Lower 49 States because of the limited space on the 660 which was fine for my use. (I had previously loaded the entire map to an SD card, but after loading, the 660 became very slow loading maps on power up, so I reverted back.) This time however, it says I can't even fit the Lower 49 States, only Southern US & Mexico.
Not sure I want to do that. I'll have to think about it.
Guess I've stretched just about all the life I can out of my trusty old 660.

Basecamp shows 2017.20 as Unauthenticated
Anyone having problems with 2017.20 in BaseCamp?
Used GE to install to both device and Computer. Device update worked fine, computer install completed however BaseCamp shows map as Unauthenticated (not Locked). Tried to unlock it a couple times and followed some FAQ's from Garmins site. No success yet.
2017.10 previously installed on both fine.
Try this
I've not had a problem but in cases like this:
Start Map Product Manager from "Maps" menu, go to "Unlock regions" tab, select the appropriate map and then click on Import to get the unlock Code files (*.gma and *.unl) from your GPS. Those files will either be in the Garmin folder (older devices and handhelds) or the hidden .system folder (newer devices) on your GPS. However if you've installed maps to a SD card then they'll be in the Garmin folder on the card.

I was a Garmin Express hold out but have now changed to it. I had problems when GE first came out and didn't want to try it. I now am glad I changed to GE. I just turn off the auto settings and only open it when I want to check for map updates. It works just as MapUpdater did. You might want to give it a try with the DNS you want to use.

GE
I don't think GE is going to help me squeeze the Lower 49 States onto my 660 if MapUpdater can't.

I was just joking around. Maybe if I use a bigger shoehorn...
Verizon sold off 3 FiOS markets (FL, TX & CA) back in April and there have nothing but problems ever since. This is what prompted me to try different DNS servers. A problem I never had with Verizon. The problems have been so bad that the Florida Attorney General stepped in. Not sure it helped much. Seems more like a political stunt as not much has improved.

This worked :)
Yes, this worked. In further testing I found the map was unlocked if I logged in as Admin, and Unauthenticated if I logged in as an ordinary user. This map happened to be installed in the SD card, imported the .gma file while logged in as the user, problem solved.
Many thanks.

Got it Thanks
2017.20 Update is loaded with errors!
Half of the city of Philadelphia cannot be found. The base map seems right, but this update doesn't know East from West, and most odd addresses in the city of Philadelphia are either not able to be located for directions, or they show up as Philadelphia Metro Areas, often over 14 miles away!
Garmin, you screwed up. I have called and Emailed Garmin at leat 8 times, reported many map errors; they blame the problem on Here maps. Sorry, Garmin - you suck! The base map from Here is right, your directions are crap. I paid for lifetime updates. For city addresses I am not familiar with, I have to use my phone now? That has Google maps!
Fix the problem, now! This would never fly for an aviation update (pun intended).
Yep
I've seen a few posts about issues with addresses on this recent map, Garmin know it is a map issue and it should be corrected in the next update due shortly.
If you kept a backup of your old map just restore that, 2017.10 works perfectly well.
