Not sure about what your internet connection speed is but I started my update at 8:30am PDT and have an estimated 25 Minutes remaining at 9:35am. So it looks like an hour and a half for the download. I have a 15GB DSL connection.
I have a cable connection and my reported internet download speed varies from around 15 to 20 Mbps, and depends somewhat on what speed test I use. (That is mega bits per second.)
Around my neck of the woods DSL is quite a bit slower than cable.
Download servers are probably getting slammed right now. Only downloading ~200k/sec right now.
GarminMapUpdater is giving me estimates of from a low of 67 hours to a high of 2999 hours for the download.
[Update] Now the estimate is 8163 hours to go...with my broadband cable 30M connection.
[More update] I cancelled the GMU run against a strong warning from the program, then restarted it. As expected, it asked me if I wanted to download again the new map and I said yes. The download is now projected to be just over 30 minutes. I know not to count my chickens now--let's see if the download continues and completes and then installs properly.
[Last(?) update] GarminMapUpdater went well for me on my 2nd attempt and successfully loaded 2015.20 to my nuvi 2460 and computer. Mapsource and Basecamp see the map and the new map is working on the nuvi.
Note: for those preferring GarminMapUpdater to Garmin Express, the GMU version for PCs remains 3.3.3, so if you have it saved from a previous download, you can use it rather than download a new copy.
I'll take a break before installing 2015.20 to my other devices and think I'll download the large JCV file for my nuvi 855 now and then backup the 2460.
Mine finished about 5 minutes ago ... took about 80 minutes total for install to both computer and cloned card.
Interestingly, Map Updager 3.3.3 replaced the gmapdem.img file instead of just removing it like last time. But it didn't name it correctly, giving the new file the name D2248000B.img. The gmapprom.img file grew in size from 2,274,880 KB to 2,312,576 KB.
I don't see any major problems on the clone copy, so I guess I will try copying the new files over to the 3597 and do a little testing.
Did you have to rename the gmapdem file for it to work properly on your 3597?

Yes, I renamed the file to gmapdem.img. It showed up fine in the 3597 map info after renaming it.
So GarminMapUpdater again has the DEM rename glitch. It'll be interesting to hear if Garmin Express does the same--or if it correctly names the DEM file. Went smooth with no problems and from the time I plugged the 3790 into the computer till install was complete took just 65 minutes total.
This time Basecamp is working fine after the install with the new map and my 3790 is functioning normally including the junction view and 3D files are working. I did have to rename the DEM file to gmapdem to get the terrain to show properly.

One other thing , what did you do with the gmap3d1.img and url files? The old file name was gmap3d. Did you just override the old file with the new one, leave both files on the Nuvi or something different?
On the other hand, why does either program decide to update the DEM map with an identical map file rather than just leave it be? It's not done with the Basemap.
I have seen the same behavior with the timezone map gmaptz.img on my 755 ... replacing it with the same version, although it didn't happen with this map update.
Even taken as bits, and assuming the time unit is the usual “seconds”, 15 gigabits per second is way higher that 3 megabits per second.
Sorry, my connection is 15mbps DSL. That's the fastest DSL available in our area. In our winter home in Arizona the fastest DSL available is 1.5mbps and that's where a map update can take all day or night.

After my post I googled 15GB DSL and found offers such as this:
“The Netspace Naked DSL Anytime +15GB broadband plan combines super-fast speeds up to 20,000kbps with a huge download limit” so I saw that the 15GB is a monthly data limit rather than speed.
Their download speed is on the order of 20Mbps, which is about the same as my cable connection. However their charge is $50 per month compared to my $10 per month.
Last tax season AARP and IRS pushed all AARP Taxaide Districts to use Taxwise Online instead of Taxwise Desktop. One of the main sites in my District is at the Rushmore Mall and the DSL connection there was limited to 1.2 Mbps which would not support Taxwise Online so IRS/AARP provided Verizon “Hot Spots” for me to install there.
All other sites in my District have fast cable service so I had no need to look further into what has been developing in the DSL world. Looks like I should be paying more attention.

Shortly after my "Stalled" post I shut GE down in spite of its warning that I was shooting myself in my foot.
Just now (about an hour after closing GE) I restarted the update and it continued from the 77% point where it left off, and is reporting 30 minutes remaining.
Two map updates ago, I tried downloading on the day it was released. I saw the same crazy estimates for completion that folks are reporting here today. The download and map update ended up taking about 9 hours (this is with Verizon Fios BTW.) not including the glitches, re-starts and other misc. drama that seemed to be a result of server overload chaos. Last update I delayed for about three weeks: Start to finish in less than an hour. If you don't need the update TODAY, put it off for a while. The new map will still be there.

Used Garmin Express to update my 3790, after I'd use MapUpdater and the clone method to update my 3597. Both GE and Express completed in about 1 1/2 hours and both updated with no problem at all.
I get the feeling that a lot of these weird estimates, long download times, restarts, etc. are as much to do with peoples ISP's and their own computer setups than it does with Garmin and their servers.
Granted the Garmin servers will get hit hard immediately after a new update is released but one has to wonder why would lots of folks have no issues while others have all kinds of them when the files all originate from the same place.
I have updated all 3 of my nuvi's (3597LMTHD, 855, 755T) using Map Updater 3.3.3 and cloned SD cards, then copying the updated files back to the device.
All updates went without incident except for the needed renaming of the gmapdem.img file on the 3597 as noted in my earlier post. My download times were a little longer than normal ... maybe by 15 minutes per device. The 3597 was done first and took 1 hour 20 minutes, the 755 took about 45 minutes, the 855 about 40 minutes.
I have done some desk testing on all 3 devices and see no problems with this map update. Road testing in the next few days will tell the complete story. That said, this map update seems to be "cleaner" than any of recent previous ones.
I didn't try Express, but hopefully the Express users will also have good results.
I originally couldn't find my newest copy of MapUpdater to I fired up an older version and was surprised to see that GMU saw it was an old version and automatically updated to 3.3.3. I thought that was fairly smart for a program that really isn't supported by Garmin any longer.
Used Garmin Express, updated my 3590 and maps on computer. Took about 25 minutes total. Went super fast, from some of the comments I expected to take hours.
well u know windoz doesn't know how to keep time. I have 2 dnldg now - why can't they use the same dnld - the first one is at 30% and 25 min , the 2nd is at 80% and 3hrs -- go figure. Opps, 2nd is down to 20 min now ( about 2 min ;ater)
I just downloaded the map update for a 3590 to my PC only. Took just 8 minutes. Download speed was fairly consistent @ 6.8MB/sec. 5:00 PM PDT, SF Bay Area. First test of newly speed bumped Comcast 50mb/sec tier. I likey.

What does your “GB” stand for”? I assume that G is for giga; and “B” is usually bytes but some use it for bits. Also, what is the time unit used?
Even taken as bits, and assuming the time unit is the usual “seconds”, 15 gigabits per second is way higher that 3 megabits per second.
I am thinking he meant 15 Mbps DSL connection, not 15 GB.
I'm not certain that DSL is available at 15 Mbps actually but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Proper usage by the way is as follows.
If the B is capitalized, it means Bytes. If lower case, it means bits. There are 8 bits in a Byte. Internet speeds are typically quoted in bits per second, not Bytes per second. 15 GBps would be 120 Gbps, and there is no such thing in DSL or cable, or any residential service. Most DSL tops out at 6-10 Mbps theoretically (unless the operator is using an exotic form). Cable internet speeds are increasing annually (sometimes more often) and are typically reaching 50-100 Mbps on average in most mid to large markets. Some markets now offer 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps to residential customers.
Installation onto the Nuvi yes, it's the speed of the USB ports involved BUT the way the update process works is that the update files are downloaded to your computer, compiled and then transferred to the GPS. The download of the update files is 100% dependent on the speed of your Internet connection and will, for most of us, take more time than the transfer onto the device.
For example, in my case this morning, total time for download and install was 90 minutes for the device and computer update option. 60 minutes was the actually downloading of the update files from the Garmin servers (less the verification process). AFAIK, the USB ports had no part in the first 60+ minutes of a 90 minute operation.
I am thinking he meant 15 Mbps DSL connection, not 15 GB.

If you'd actually read the posts in this thread you would have seen I corrected my first post and stated that my DSL connection was, in fact, 15mbps. Which, by the way, has been available to us folks in the Canadian "wilderness" for a couple of years now. My ISP also offers a 25mbps and 50mbps DSL service.

Is it possible that Garmin has various servers around the continent and the one plunder is being sent to has an incorrect file to offer?
This could be an issue that you can't fix easily tonight that may magically resolve itself in a day or two. You still have the tiny default JCV file that came with your map update to your nuvi 1450 to use in the meantime, right?

Restarted
Shortly after my "Stalled" post I shut GE down in spite of its warning that I was shooting myself in my foot.
Just now (about an hour after closing GE) I restarted the update and it continued from the 77% point where it left off, and is reporting 30 minutes remaining.
Stalled again
After another 30 minutes and 86% complete
Completed
Maps finally updated. Tomorrow I'll see if they've updated the roundabouts by my niece's place.
Nice timing for the map update.

Thanks for the help
@phydx2 - Thanks, that's what I needed.
Put .JCV on the end of the file name
For those who require or what to use the large JCV file with City Navigator 2015.20, it is available from:

I get "File not found" .
Servers overtaxed/max'd out
Two map updates ago, I tried downloading on the day it was released.

Used
Used Garmin Express to update my 3790, after I'd use MapUpdater and the clone method to update my 3597.

My results.

Update Was Fast
Used Garmin Express, updated my 3590 and maps on computer. Took about 25 minutes total. Went super fast, from some of the comments I expected to take hours.
well u know windoz doesn't
well u know windoz doesn't know how to keep time. I have 2 dnldg now - why can't they use the same dnld - the first one is at 30% and 25 min , the 2nd is at 80% and 3hrs -- go figure. Opps, 2nd is down to 20 min now ( about 2 min ;ater)
8 minutes
I just downloaded the map update for a 3590 to my PC only. Took just 8 minutes. Download speed was fairly consistent @ 6.8MB/sec. 5:00 PM PDT, SF Bay Area. First test of newly speed bumped Comcast 50mb/sec tier. I likey.
Speed
ITS OUT!!
Thank you. I'll test my new 100 Mbps connection when I get home from work.
The speed of installation is more about how slow the USB port on the Garmin units is, not the speed of our internet connection.
Internet Speeds
Not sure about what your internet connection speed is but I started my update at 8:30am PDT and have an estimated 25 Minutes remaining at 9:35am. So it looks like an hour and a half for the download. I have a 15GB DSL connection.
I have a cable connection and my reported internet download speed varies from around 15 to 20 Mbps, and depends somewhat on what speed test I use. (That is mega bits per second.)
Around my neck of the woods DSL is quite a bit slower than cable.
According to this: http://compnetworking.about.com/od/dsldigitalsubscriberline/...
“Bandwidth numbers advertised for residential DSL service range from 128 Kbps to 3 Mbps”
MapUpDater
Worked for me.
Installation
@Sixeye

It's a very small large JCV file
For those who require or what to use the large JCV file with City Navigator 2015.20, it is available from:

I corrected the file name to

(the CV and the end of the file name is being truncated in this post) but the file is only 1984kb in size. What am I missing?

What you are missing is most of the file.
The file size is 834,841 KB so I assume your download terminated early. Delete the small file you have now and try again and cross your fingers for a 800+ MB file.

Before the file ever downloads, a message asks whether I want to open the .JCV file or save it. The message informs me that the file is (only)
1.93 MB.
Can anyone else start the download and check the file size in the message. You don't have to actually download the file, just confirm the file size in the message.

Clicking the link above worked for me earlier today. Trying it again right now, I get the message (with Open/SaveAs/Save buttons) "Do you want to open or save D3060150A.JCV (815 MB) from download.garmin.com?" I don't understand why you see something different but that needs to be resolved before you try the download again.
I get the same result as t92, below, and I use Internet Explorer 11.
