If you care about having all the roads displayed on the map at high zoom level DO *NOT* INSTALL this version.

The zoom level has been reduced from 800m to 500m.

I wish the changelog mentioned this as I would have not updated my 2597.

Which is zoomed more?

Isn't a 500m zoom a higher level of zoom that 800m?

No its not.500m zoom level

No its not.

500m zoom level is the same as 0.3miles and 800meters is 0.5miles.

So before you could zoom out up to 0.5miles and still have full map display and now they reduced it to 0.3miles.

Its a crappy move by Garmin to remove a feature from an existing device.

I think that is the complaint CraigW.

I think that is the complaint CraigW. As you zoom out and show more map, the road detail is disappearing more quickly. From what I can tell, this isn't the case on recent update to the 3597, although I don't operate my nuvi in 2D mode.

Ah, after reading alandb's comment, I re-read yours. It's the loss of full detail at that zoom. I understand now. Thanks.

ALWAYS WAIT

Until some one else do the update.

Two days after the software

Two days after the software being available I thought someone would've reported this.
Its a major change in the way the device works imo.

I guess it's ok

It's been a few days and no one has reported spontaneous combustion so I guess it's safe to update.

Hey, How do you like looking

Hey,

How do you like looking at the new map that shows only major roads unless its all zoomed in with the new firmware version?

Loss of Zoom detail

Don't assume it's intentional. There's been other times when a feature has been lost or changed with a new firmware release. The traffic icon color glitch is a perfect example. A firmware update ruined the functionality of this feature on my 2595 and it has never been fixed by Garmin. (It remains green even after unplugging the receiver/cord from the unit. Interestingly, it still works as intended on other Nuvi's.

I think the bigger problem is Garmin's policy of forcing people to take the firmware update if you want a new map.
