Looking for Garmin Cyclops Safety Camera Files

Hello.
I looking for someone who have Garmin Cyclops safety camera files. I think I'm going to need it because my friend got ticket from highway speed camera. You know, we want to be safer.

UPDATE: For 2012 and newer models, Garmin no longer offers the Cyclops safety camera database for USA and Canada.

POI Factory's camera files continue to work with all of Garmin's automotive navigation units, including their newer models.

POI Files

Free trial

First off, most of us here find the POI Factory's Speed and Redlight Camera files suit our needs and they're free once you earn your windmill (or stars) or a small fee if you want them right away:

http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles/us/red-light-cameras

http://www.poi-factory.com/payment/choices

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/262

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/16197

But for Cyclops, you can download and install the free trial here:

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/shop-by-accessories/digital-...

More (if you want other than US/Canada):
http://www.garmin.com/us/extras/services/safetycamera

The free trial of Cyclops will work as long as the file is on your device, but updates can only be gotten with their $24.99/yr subscription.

Thanks I activated free 30

Thanks
I activated free 30 day trial for Garmin Cyclops safety camera. I will think about payment after trial expires.

only the icon

SyC I did the same thing as you. I download the 30 days trial the only thing it did it just add an icon to my gps . Other then that notthing else was working.

Poi Factory files are much better

They are updated every Wednesday and are far more accurate than garmins.

Nuvi 2460LMT.

It's working perfactly

But for my Nuvi 200w it's work perfectly. I passed the 60miles limited bridge, the nuvi alert me and I got everything like sounds, voice prompt, and icon on the map.

Does Cyclops Safety Camera have Voice Alert?

Wait
I know I subscribed for free safety camera trial and it's fully working on my Nuvi 200W. I can hear the ding sound when I get close to speed camera. But I have question. Does Cyclops have voice alert for red-light and speed camera because I only hear is the ding sound or dingding sound with icon on the map. If not that's okay but please let me know if there is voice alert.

Unfortunately it isn't.

Ding sound is all you got from the Cyclops Safety Camera file.

200W voice alerts

Someone should confirm this before you try (or you can do it yourself with a POI file, wav audio and even an icon with POI Loader if you want), but assuming your 200W can play wav audio files, you can add custom voice audio and an icon to the Speed and Redlight camera files obtainable here at The Factory. The detailed how-to faqs:

•Red Light Camera Icons & Sounds
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6503
•Speed Camera Icons & Sounds

Thanks

Thanks but I don't quite sure where is Cyclops databases are downloaded to, or I can just load using POI loader? I want to know where all the databases are located.

Look for USCanadaCyclopsSample.gpi

As far as I know, the free trial Cyclops is contained in one file in your nuvi's POI folder and may be named "USCanadaCyclopsSample.gpi." My nuvi 2460 came with the sample preinstalled. I did not download or install the free trial.

How about icons and sounds?

Thanks
You are right. I found the cyclops gpi file in my poi folder. But where is the sounds and icons?

Safer?

there are no icons for Cyclops and the sound is only a "ding"

How about POI Factory one?

OK... How about POI factory? Did we have icons and voice alerts?

yes you can

syc20099 wrote:

You can put voice and icons with poi factorys RLC's.

I also had the trial Cyclops loaded on my 2460 when I bought it new. I since then have deleted it and use the POI Factory's RedLight & Speed cameras exclusively.

There are pro's and cons for both. I'm assuming the Cyclops file is a simple download with the Cyclops.poi file into the POI folder.
You must use POI loader and create a new file when using the POI files from this site.

Pro's for POI Factory files are they are more accurate, you can assign sounds and icons, and you can view the changes made every week. I don't create a new file every week unless I see any changes made for areas I plan to frequent.

Here you can see the history:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1352

I use Jill in both my Nuvi's as the voice.
I have created my own alert sound in a males voice for the Redlight Camera. It says "Caution, Now Approaching a Red Light Camera".
As soon as I hear the male voice I know what's coming ahead. Not that I break the traffic laws, but many innocent people have been ticketed unjustly.

You can create your own wave sounds here for the alerts.
http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

P.S. If you decide to use the POI Files from this site, backup the Cyclops file to your PC if you like then delete it from the Nuvi. Leaving it there may cause double announcements since both files will have the same location.

Nuvi 2460LMT 2 Units

Then POI Factory's are much

Then POI Factory's are much better. I can customize icons, replace sounds, and they update every week but Cyclops, they charge about $24.99 to subscribe and they have less functionality like can't customize icons, and alert sounds are just a ding or either dingding. In prices, POI factory's are much cheaper more accurate. Hope we could have unlimited subscription will be excellent.

As stated earlier...

...once you have your windmill, you have free access to The Factory's redlight and speed files.

You've been posting for about two weeks so you should have a windmill soon.

Wave sounds alert

I just registered for this site and wanted to thank you for the comment about the wave sounds alerts.
I bought a new garmin nuvi and was thinking about getting cyclops since this is the one that I found at garmin website as safety camera program but I was doing the research on google and found this website. I was looking for reviews between cyclops and factory safety camera and found your comment and because of that I decided to buy this one.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain so clear about the difeerences.

And

And it seems that the Garmin Cyclops does NOT work on it's newer units. Maybe this is a glitch, or maybe Cyclops is on the way out at Garmin.

My wife continues to use both the Cyclops and POI Factory files since she travels to more of the "hot" spots than I do around northern Ohio and Columbus. She has yet to find a missing alert in either file. She says POI Factory and Cyclops have slightly different settings for the alert but nothing annoying. Her POI Factory Redlight is set for 700 ft and Speed uses the default value.

I will soon delete the Cyclops files from her unit as well. But it was an interesting analysis.

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

Red Light Camera's

I was considering Cyclops, but I just joined this site and after all the good information I think I'll try the POI Factory first...

Thanks

Is there a way to convert a Garmin (Cyclops) .gpi safety camera file into something readable?

I installed the trial and it shows up check marked in the Proximity Alerts section of my nuvi 3590 but I have yet to see or hear it do anything. I would like to find out where it thinks cameras are in my area so that I can test it.

Try these at Bing search

Bing shows a couple but I haven't tried any. Ihttp://www.bing.com/search?q=convert+.gpi+to+.gpx&form=IE10TR&src=IE10TR&pc=ASJB

Tried a few...

They fail with "tag error" or just hang.
The file must be protected in some way.

Proprietary

Proprietary files are usually protected in some way, If you could "break open" the file during the trial period then you would not need to purchase it.

Thanks

Makes sense.

actually

I had both and found Garmin to be more accurate. But they raised the price and I decided not to renew.

Details, please

This is counter to everything I have read on this site.

Would you please cite some examples, please.

Garmin Cyclops safety camera

What is the Garmin Cyclops safety camera and how does it work?

Garmins answer to RLC and speed cameras

what does the program do?

TOO MANY CHOICES

Every model has some good things and some not so good things. I just upgraded to the Garmin 2495LMT. Didn't need the 5" screen.

As long as you stay away from the newest, latest , greatest. And stay under $200.00, you can't go wrong.

Mine has LMT and Bluetooth and it was under $150.00 on Amazon. Best function is the Red Light Cameras, still amazes me

Cyclops

Ones the 30 days trial is over and gone does screw up any other function on your gps?

But if you have the sound and Icon on alert working install from here,on the speed and red light camera, they also should work the same on cyclops right?

cylops not on the nüvi® 3597LMTHD

I just bought the nüvi® 3597LMTHD and quite frankly, I'm surprised and annoyed that this model doesn't have support for the US RLC. It has support for other countries but not the North America ones it would seem; odd.....

Free trial

Look earlier in the thread for the link to download the free trial of Garmin's Safety Camera files. That is what you'd get if it came pre-installed on a newly-purchased nuvi. The trial version will work as long as it's on the nuvi but it won't be updatable unless you pay to subscribe.

Note that many folks here that use The Factory's redlight and speed camera files are likely very happy that the Garmin trial is not preinstalled on devices they buy since they'd quite often have to search the nuvi to delete the Garmin trial.

Use POI Factory.

Just use the camera files here at POI Factory. They work great on the 3597 and are updated weekly. Many users have said the POI Factory files are more up to date and accurate than Garmin's Cyclops.

But I do get your point. Why Garmin removes functions and features on new devies is a mystery to me

I will use the POI Factory RLC file. Just deciding if I want to wait the prerequisite weeks or to just buy it now via donation smile

...and in the meantime, you have a lot you can do:

1) Make a full computer backup of the files on your new nuvi with the nuvi in MS mode rather than MTP mode. You can see your .system folder, right?

1a) If you haven't done a computer backup yet, do it now. Don't skip ahead. mrgreen

2) Add more TTS3 voices. Have you added Karen yet? You want her voice. Note also that just a week ago, most of the TTS3 voices were updated to v2.00.

3) Practice loading Custom POIs to your nuvi, use POI Loader in Manual Mode to set alerts, add Custom icons and Custom audio to your Custom POIs. It's possible that this will save you oodles of problems when you do install the redlight and speed camera files, especially with Custom Audio. A great POI file to install with Custom icons and audio is the RestAreasCombined.

4) Go through the exercises in The Factory's Learn Tab, Tutorials, and Faq tab, especially the Garmin faqs.

5) Delete unneeded files in your nuvi--if you don't speak Norwegian, do you really need Norwegian voice directions? You haven't skipped ahead, have you? See 1) and 1a).

6) Be amazed at the new School Zones feature by driving through some during school hours, after hours, and on weekends--note the differences. Ditto for the auto Day/Night mode in many tunnels.

7) See if you can find your vehicle at:

http://www.vehiclesforgarminnuvi.com/

and install it to your nuvi.

8) Have you downloaded your Owners Manual from Garmin?

9) Do a simulated route to some location. Determine how to do a SET LOC.

Of course, if any of the above makes no sense, then you haven't fully explored the Learn and Faq tabs and the Tutorials. wink I'm assuming that you've already updated to the latest map, 2015.10, and have installed and saved to your computer: POI Loader, WebUpdater, GarminMapUpdater, the latest Garmin Communicator plug-in, have registered your nuvi and visited myGarmin and its various tabs.

Extra credit: 1) Learn about the intricacies of TourGuides vs. standard POIs. This will avoid embarrassing questions about why your Starbucks alerts aren't always alerting; 2) Realize why you don't need to know about the large JCV file. 3) Try to understand why Garmin Express is discussed as much as it is here at The Factory.

Need more jobs before earning your windmill? twisted

:) Lots to do :)

Thank you smile I will do everything you've outlined here IN ORDER LOL

First things first.... Backup.

Oh yes, after updating to 2015.10, do you still have the original gmapdem.img file?

Good work, you've got the right attitude for this place.

tasks completed oh Jedi Master :)

Well this is where I am with my training smile

1) read the FAQ on how to see the .System folder
1a) did a backup by creating an .ISO file of the Garmin internal drive.
2) Added a couple more of the TTS voices such as Karen (Australian female voice)
3) Will get back to loading practice POIs in the next few days
4) In progress
5) Deleted a lot of voices I don't need or don't know smile
6) Will have to wait for another day.
7) Downloaded lots of new vehicles
8) Downloaded the manual
9) Done smile

extra credit - will do. it's on my bucket list smile
also I installed and i'm playing with Basecamp...ugh that i'll have to look at the tutorial links from the Basecamp tutorial section on the site http://www.poi-factory.com/node/41134

Thanks for your guidance!

@jmvamosy, I'm impressed with your progress. By the way, if there was anything in the FAQs that was not clear - or took a while to understand - it would be a real help to others if you would point out places where you had problems to the author of the FAQ.

@Craig - those instructions were great. I think I will put a "Newbies" Tab in the Index and point to your post.

on a roll :)

@CraigW:

Update to my progress:
3) feel like a kid at Toys R Us. I've installed a whole slew of POIs smile I'll test them this weekend to see if they work smile
4) in progress
6) Will still have to wait for another day

@Jgermann:

So far the FAQs seem to be on point so no issues from me.

Hmmm

jgermann wrote:

Hmm, I've thought about something like that as well. But my above list was directed more towards jmvamosy (who I figured just needed a slight poke in the ribs with a finger to start all this stuff) rather than the average newbie (who needs more of a hand-holding than a quick rib jab). wink

Also, a lot of the list was specific to the nuvi 3597. There's also the issue of order of importance. Other than figuring that you will agree with items 1 (and 1a), maybe the lists priorities should be rethought. I started with the important ones, but then with later edits, I added to the end of the list things that maybe should have had a higher priority. I have to say it was fun thinking of all the hoop I could make jmv... jump thru.

PS--I agree with your assessment of this newbie.

awww thanks :)

Thanks smile I have to admit it was fun and I never thought I would do it because I never was interested in playing with a GPS.

I thought a GPS was.... just a dumb thing to get me from point A to point B. But, I've learned differently now. thanks smile

Can you have both?

Anyone know if you can have both Cyclops and POI factory running safety camera alerts on your GPS at the same time? Or do you have to delete one to install the other?

you can have both

many do
