2555 Nuvi is almost full any way to delete 3/4 of a Continent?

Use MapInstall.

Another option would be to get a microSD card and load the entire map on it. 8GB MicroSD cards are cheap. If you can, get a Class 10 (faster read/write).

There are a number of things you can do to get more storage space on your Nuvi.

After taking a full backup of the files on your device, which you should do anyway, you can delete all of the voice, vehicle, text, language, and EULA files that are in languages that you will never use.

Using the most current version of Garmin Express software you can have a map update downloaded to your computer only and then use Garmin's MapInstall software to pick just the map regions you want to install on your Nuvi.

Using Garmin's MapUpdater software you can pick the option to install just the western half of the North American maps.

This seems a bit strange to me. I have a 2555 also, and I have loaded all of U.S.A. and Canada, no issue with space.

I uninstalled a few voices (non-English), but that's about it. I have no image files or other of my own on the unit.

Did you use Garmin Express? I used Gamin MapUpdater, so could that have something to do with your space problem? I understand from another thread (somewhere) that GE "whines" about space, when there is in fact lots available.

I agree that if the 2555 has a 7+GB internal storage drive and City Navigator North America maps, then it should have 1.5GB or more of free space. That's space for a lot of map updates as the old maps are deleted/overwritten when the new update is installed.

The OP doesn't mention how much free space he has so it's possible that "almost full" is up for debate but the responses he received will free up space whether it's really needed or not.

My wife's 2555 has only 4GB, and it's only got about 500MB of free space.

so I've loaded mapinstall and will be using it instead of GE, assuming Garmin doesn't discontinue use of mapinstall.

My 2555 just updated and said I only have 90 mb left
