855 still gets small JCV on 2013.30

I updated my nuvi 855 last night. I used the "cloning" method described in this thread (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/34914) to install directly to the 8 GB micro SD card. There was plenty of room for the full map and the large JCV, but as in past updates, the installer gave me the puny JCV:
D3153080A.JCV, 44892 KB. Fortunately I have the large JCV file from the install on my 755T so I was able to copy it over and the 855 is working well with the new map and large JCV.

I keep hoping Garmin will improve the map installer to detect the amount of available free space on the install target and give you the larger JCV file automatically. They have made some improvement by offering to install the map to SD (on some models anyway). It seems like they could offer up the large JCV to users installing to SD.

Good luck. Since the Lifetime Updater has had several problems since its introduction by Garmin, let's hope that your attempt now with the manual updater (the one I always use) will resolve your issue. If so, be sure to uninstall Lifetime Updater from your computer if you haven't already done so. Note that at the very end of the manual map update, you'll receive the recommended suggestion to install Lifetime Updater. Uncheck that recommendation!

As already pointed out, there may be an issue with map unlocking. But before assuming this is the case, go to your nuvi's Map Info page and see if a map is listed there and that it's checked. The quickest fix is to hope that you'll see City Navigator 2013.30 as the only map on the page and it's unchecked. Just checking the map will resolve a "No detailed map found" error.

Once again, good luck. And please report back with your results. Having this issue occur on two nuvis is quite strange--abd that leads me to think Lifetime MapUpdater is the culprit.

Thanks for the reply Craig.

Reinstalling via the manual updater resolved both issues. I am going to get rid of that lifetime updater! The lifetime updater did work fine last map update though.

660 Downloading now...

I'm downloading now... And it didn't suggest an SD card.. I do have an SD card installed, but it is full of music...

I deleted most everything after last one, and stopped loading a couple POI's.... Once this is finished, I'll see how much space is left.....

See you in 2 hours!! smile!

JanJ wrote:

What's the difference in size compared to last version?

Seeing that I'm running out of space on my 660, I'd like to know that before I download.....

Thanks

On my 750, the 2013.20 map file was 1,796,672KB and the new 2013.30 file is 1,877,152KB, almost 80.5MB larger.

Note that your 660 is like my 855 and you won't be given the choice with the installing software to automatically install the full map to a SD card:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...

but at the bottom of the web page from the above link, there are further links for installing a full map to a SD card that are worth checking into. Whatever you do, be careful in doing the update so that you don't end up with less than the full map update. I also strongly suggest you choose the "Install to device and Computer" option rather than the default "Install to device" option. Then you'll have the option to use MapInstall from your computer to create a full map installation on a SD card for use in your 660.

Let us know how things work for you--and if you don't have one now, today's a good day to go out and buy a nice 4 or 8 GB Sandisk SD card.

I keep forgetting that I have to turn off all the Filters in the router & gateway....

in 10 min time the updater was saying I had 254 hours left to download....

Logged off Logged on, reconnected, ran updater, and had to tell it to re-install....

Back to normal 2 hours till finished.....

Wish I knew which filter it wanted..... I had to open them all.... to get it to work....

15 min later, it's uploading the map to the 660.

Finished... 29.8Mb free space left!

Did a quick test... Seems OK.

My 260W also

Matt ... I got the same error, installing on my 260W ... discovered, as you did, that the install program deleted all the older maps off the 260W while installing on the SD card.

What I did was use Mapsource to install a "one-state" 2013.2 MAP onto my 260W ... then reinstalled the 2013.3 on an SD card.

Seems to be some sort of error deleting some of the files off the 260W ... when installing the the full map on the SD card. I used the manual install rather that the auto updater.

THe new update, 2013.3, installed like a dream on my 2650 Garmin.

I expect others will have this problem too.

FYI ... my 260W is a late-in-the-model-eun, 255W clone.

JRoz -- DriveSmart 55 & Traffic

2GB nüvis must use a SD/MicroSD card.

As of this map update, North America (minus French Guiana, which is still South America) will no longer fit on a 2GB nüvi.

I had felt the space pinch with 2013.20, having only about 30MB free after removing the few remaining unused files I had (vehicles). 2013.30 is 80.59MB (82528KB) larger than 2013.20, so even if I removed everything, North America will no longer fit.

So on to the MicroSD it goes, and the JCV file will get put in internal memory. If necessary, I'll throw a map of my home state in internal memory as well, but I suspect my copy of Cenrut will be sufficient to avoid any "No detailed maps" errors.

corrupt update

Luckytom, it sounds like you got an incomplete or corrupt update. Did you use the Lifetime Updater program? a lot of users have had this issue using the lifetime updater.

The best solution is to redownload and update using the online Map Updater (my.garmin.com). Make sure you have sufficient free space on your nuvi before you start the download. Remove any unused voice files, vehicle files, etc.

3790

The new map works as expected, has a few new streets, and a fly-over that was put in last year. When on a route, voice seems smoother, and with better pronunciation. Recalc's also seem a bit quicker.

Mind you, this is over one day, so further testing is required. So far, so good.

POI Update 2013.30 NA

It took 3 map updates after reporting it to both Garmin and Navteq, but they finally added our local Police department to the POI's in this release. Considering that this could be VITAL information for someone in an emergency, and that the next next closest Police Station is 6 miles away I think this took WAY to long to correct; especially for something that is so easy to verify.

Reinstall to a SD card

Loomisglx wrote:

You can reinstall 2013.30 (although it will require a full download again) and have the full North America map installed to a SD card quite simply since the 1690 is one of the many models that offer the direct SD installation:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...

With your 1690 connected to your computer, webbrowse to myGarmin, then myMaps and select the button that says something like download or reinstall again. A 4 or 8GB SD card is a very cheap way to get the full map back on your device.

ScrugneysGundogs wrote:

As BoxCar pointed out, MapSource is no longer supported, and has been replaced by BaseCamp.

MapSource also fails trying to create the route with the 2013.20 map. So the problem has to do with MapSource and not the 2013.30 map update.

Good news! BaseCamp computes the route correctly!! smile

When I imported the BaseCamp route to my 2595, it seemed to be identical to the trip calculated (with no tolls) on the unit -- both showed elapsed time of 11:20, distance 1139 km (708 mi.)

My 1690 with 8 Gb SD card took the full NA update with no issues. I'm just waiting for the large JCV file to put in the JCV folder.

I used the Garmin Map Updater, not the lifetime updater which has caused problems for me in the past.

The Map Updater put the full mapset on the SD card by default.

Edit: I also have MapSource and duplicated the error posted above.

Yes, I did use the Garmin Lifetime Updater for all 3 and it worked perfectly.

I continue to try Lifetime UpDater on every new map since it was released and seem to have success every other time with it. When it works it is simple, fast and easy to use. So I hope Garmin gets all the little bugs out it one day.

On this update it downloaded the map fine but then told me I did not have enough room on my zumo 665 (4 GB)to install my whole map and to select a smaller portion (or something like that). It did not even give me a choice to install it to the installed 8GB SD card. The Online MapUpdater took over from there and installed the full map from the already downloaded map. So at least I didn't have to download the map twice.

2013.30

Hi all.

Well I used lifetime updater to download the new 2013.30 and no problem, took about 25 min.

When I clicked on install no joy. I get an error message saying "There was an error installing your maps, please try again. If the problem presists please concact Garmin customer support"

I checked my 1450 LMT and the 2013.20 map is still there and usable.

Ok, Now I'm just a little confused and annoyed. Judging what you people say here it looks like I just have to ditch lifetime updater and do something else.

Soo is there any FAQ I can read to tell me how to manually do the update/install ?

Thanks
Allan

Lifetime updater

It took about 6 hours over my 3Mbps line to download the files using the lifteime updater....then when it tried to install the files it gave me an error. Tried installing it again (using the same download) it installed. When I D/C the nuvi and started it up it said I needed to reset the unit.....don't remember that happening for other updates. Is that normal? When I tried to check the files in basecamp it loaded a new version (I guess I missed on sometime ago). Also it retained the 2013.2 file in basecamp.

Them maps on my nuvi are now: Cnna-Na-Dem North America DEM; CN North America NT 2013.30 3D; and CN North America NT 2013.30 All. Are these correct?

Out of curiosity, I just tried this. I created a route from Hartford to Aurora, and it created it just fine.

Then I noticed I didn't have "avoid toll roads" checked.

So I checked "avoid toll roads", then recalculated the route, and it worked as it should.

Maybe it will recalc, but not create from scratch???

So I deleted my route, and then made a new one -- Hartford, CT to Aurora, NC -- and it worked fine.

NO AUDIO

I installed the thing on my 760 and, of course, it updated my firmware. The map installed fine. Then I reverted to the 4.9 firmware and the unit could no longer find the maps. CRAP!

I did the install again and left the new firmware in place. It now works "mostly". The problem I have now is NO AUDIO.

If I run it through the FM transmitter I get audio from Jack and from my audio books. If turn off the FM transmitter I would normally hear everything through the internal speaker but there is NOTHING now. No beeps when I push buttons, no audio from the audio books, no spoken directions from Jack (or any other voice file).

Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm leaving for Hawaii Monday and I need this thing to work!

On my 2495LMT with 7.31gb total, space used went from 3.72gb to 5.91gb. 60% increase seems like a lot. Is this all expanded junction view?
