2013.30 NA

The new City navigator North America NT 2013.30 is on. I just download it.

Oh Well...

I have a 60CSx with Lifetime Maps and a Montana 600 that supposedly has a free update due since it is new. Both are loaded with 2013.20.

I have checked the update status for both units and according to Garmin, both units are up to date.

Looks like I'll be on the phone with Garmin.

My 2450

My 2450 said that last time. I just went in and reloaded the map it offered and it was the correct map.

Would only try it with the lifetime map one just in case so you don't use your free one on the wrong map.

Once in MyGarmin connect your GPS and select the MyDashboard tab. You will see a Map Updates section that will guide you through the update process.

Hi.

Thanx tried that and still no joy. The 2013.20 maps still work but dashboard still could not install the 2013.30 mps.

Oh well, I'll just wait and see.

Allan

It's only a guess but a few posters before you started talking about the long download times. I wonder if Garmin disables any new requests to download the new map by not letting the download process see the new version until the load on the server decreases a little. Every time there is a new map a day or 2 later people start posting long download times and then there are posts saying they can't see the new map. Then a few days later they post again that the map is now there and they are downloading. Like I said, it's just a guess on my part.

Long install time

Well, the map downloaded and extracted fairly fast last night, but it took over 6 hrs to install to my 660. It usually only takes a couple of hours for the whole process.

We'll see what happens on the next update.

Since the Garmin handheld's don't come with City Navigator maps, you must have purchased a CN NA map product for these units. What format did you purchase (DVD, preinstalled SD or download?). If you purchased the map on DVD, you are eligible for the 90 day nuMaps guarantee and you should be able to update. If you purchased the map on SD, updates are not available and you would need to purchase the new SD card if you want to update. If you purchased the map by download, the nuMaps guarantee does not apply. It is also my understanding that you cannot apply a lifetime map update subscription to a map that was originally purchased by download. You can apply a lifetime subscription to a map purchased on DVD.

2013.20 crap

On my drive from up north to Mexico the 2013.20 version has to be the worst map I ever had from Garmin.

Just one example amongst others, leaving Wichita, Ks for Laredo, Tx is a straight run down I-35. When I got near Oklahoma City both the 3790 and 855 redirected me well west of OK city on I-44 toward Wichita Falls and then to god only knows where to.
Fortunately I noticed this misdirection just south of OK city and made my way back to I-35 after having had made an unwanted and not needed detour.

installed on nuvi 275T, will see about the performance in real life. last maps were weird, redirecting to some crazy local routes while straight highways & bridges were open and available (e.g. between White Plains, NY and places in New Jersey), hopefully that's fixed now.

Have you tried to tell it to re-download 2013.20 maps and start going through the process? It might change its mind once you get so far through the download steps.

What If You Skip 2013.30

I recently downloaded 2013.20 to my nuvi 50LM. If I don't install 2013.30 and they come out with 2013.40, will there be a problem if I try to install 2013.40?

Per Strephon_Alkhalikoi's post, it seems I may need to use my SD card if I do 2013.30, though I don't have the full NA map, only the lower 48 and Papillion's French Guyana, etc. grin

No problem

There's no problem in skipping map updates. When you do update your map, you will receive the latest version.

Regarding the nuvi 50LM, the coverage of the map update you receive depends on the model you have:

nüvi 50LM, lower 48 states, 010-00991-21
nüvi 50LM, U.S. and Canada, 010-00991-20

Map updates will include only the geography with which your model is entitled to receive.

Thanks CraigW!

I may not need the SD card yet, as 2013.20 took up 30MB of the 185MB I had left, so if I do install 2013.30, it may not take up all the 150MB I have.

It took aboy 5 hours for 2013.20 from beginning to end.

D/L

Downloaded and installed with no problems.

I'm trying to preview first, not download

I don't have lifetime updates (I have an old StreetPilot 2730), so I wasn't trying to download at all. What I was trying to do is "preview" the map on Garmin's website, and then decide if I want to purchase the updated map.

2013.30 NA

After many hours I have finally got the new maps downloaded and almost installed on my 2460. Good to hear the Texas speed limits have been updated. Looking forward to see if they have moved any of the highways to match all the road projects in the DFW area.

I hope this update is better. We had a few problems with the last update. Too often, it wanted to take us on secondary roads when the interstate was right there. And, yes, I checked and rechecked my preferences, including fastest route.

If it's going to be found at the location posted by Strephon, it's not here yet. I do check every day or two and will post its availability when I see it. I also see that the Garmin faq hasn't been updated to the current map yet either:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...

I am waiting to update my 855 map to 2013.30 until after the large jcv is posted so my interest is as great as yours!

I should have waited.

We are visiting St.Louis before Thanksgiving. Right now my 1490 does not show any Junction Views along my route.

No JCV?

I'm a little surprised they haven't made it available yet. Just keep in mind that link I provided isn't an official Garmin link but informed speculation based upon the 2013.20 JCV download. Knowing my luck, they'll completely change the directory structure just to screw us all up.

Well, settings are correct (Fastest Time, etc.), but it still tries to route me through city traffic (shortest route) rather than on the Interstate (Fastest) on the way to work.

This is not good! Getting a traffic alert after passing that shortest route exit could possibly cause me to spend time sitting in a gridlock because of the re-calculation.

Going home, I have to wait until I am almost on the Interstate to hit the "Home" button, else it tries to send me on the shortest route - again, through city traffic.

Bummer.

Here are my results if anyone's queasy about doing this for those models that can use but do not come with the large jcv file.

My nuvi 855 installed a 44,892KB JCV file (D3153080A.jcv) with the 2013.30 map update. I tested this on a short simulated trip including I-40 to the other side of town followed by a return home. I received one Junction View and it was not photorealistic.

I downloaded rame1012's large JCV file as a zip and unzipped it on my PC. I transferred it to the SD card in my 855 and disabled the small default jcv file on the nuvi.

I repeated my test simulation round trip and now find three photrealistic Junction Views that work fine.

I will also note that since I'm not a dropbox user, my two download choices were either to: 1) create and account and download it to my dropbox, or 2) to download the file to my computer as a zip file. If interested, the zip file was 634,488KB in size which expands to the full JCV file when unzipped.

All in all, using rame1012's file is identical to using (when it becomes available) the file downloaded directly from Garmin except for the need to unzip rame1012's file.

And since some new folks are bound to ask if I don't mention it, this large file is most useful when installed to an older nuvi that offer Junction View but has received a tiny JCV file during a map update by default which has lower quality images and MANY fewer Junction Views are available with it.

If you have a newer nuvi that receives either a roughly 400-500MB (for split screen JVs) or a 700-800MB (older full screen JVs) file as the default JCV file when doing map updates, you do NOT need to manually download and copy this large file from rame1012 or Garmin for use. You already are receiving the ideal JCV file for your newer nuvi.

Thanks, r....
