My Lifetime Map Updater not seeing it

But the 'old school' Garmin Map Update is... downloading...

It's going really slow...

but since Garmin released both Europe and North America at the same time, it's to be expected. I'll probably have to pause the download and download it later on tonight or tomorrow morning.

Another week

I think I'll wait another week or so to avoid the traffic.....that's why I bought lifetime traffic updates

Looks like it will take about 40 minutes.

Well, I decided to click on my Lifetime Updater and it's downloading now. Looks like it will take about 40 minutes. The Garmin server is downloading at only about 6-12Mb/s, which is just a small fraction of the 50Mb/s Verizon FiOS download speed I have available. Obviously the Garmin server(s) are the limiting factor, either from heavy use or being capped at a maximum download speed.

I vote for heavy use as I downloaded about 7:15 Pacific Time and was getting 12 to 14mps on my 15mps DSL connection.

I Imagine they have a certain number of connections allowed at any given time to their servers, and a set amount of bandwidth dedicated to those servers - so the download speed each user sees will depend on the number of users active at a time - fewer users means better throughput - but for load balancing, etc I can see that they'd have a speed cap so as to effectively manage their bandwidth.

Downloading on hotel wireless, maybe I've got time for a nap

Thanks for info. Downloading now on hotel wireless. Map updater shows 70 minutes download time. I'll believe that when I see it.

Just completed

the update of my 755T to CN NA 2013.20. I updated with full NA to both computer and nuvi (directly to SD card). It took a total of 43 minutes. I got the large JCV file (774,978 KB) which is about 55 KB smaller than the JCV that came with 2013.10. The new JCV file is named D3060070A.JCV.

Just finished the download and verification and took 25 minutes total. That seems quicker than when I did the prior map update and was surprised considering it just rolled out this morning. grin

I just noticed, if you hover over the downloading graph, it gives percentage, and speed in mb/s.

Lifetime Updater went smooth

Lifetime Updater went smooth as silk. I don't know what's new about the update, but it is the latest as-of today. I strongly suspect many roads and [even] major highways additions/changes completed years ago are still not updated. But...it's the latest. Updating always gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside for some strange reason...even though I have no clue what's so great about it. razz

Well, Navteq is out of

Well, Navteq is out of whack, but Garmin isn't. The bridge I was cursing about was added in 2013.20. Navteq still shows the old route.

FYI, about a half hour total between start and stop to get the map installed on my computer. I don't let the "Option 2" updater install to the nüvi.

Downloading now

Downloading now and speed seems to be doing rather well. It's hanging rather close to the 5mps max on my cable connection. There are some deep dips in speed, but none near zero.

I hope that tomorrow morning it doesn't try to route me off the interstate like it has been doing. Plus, I'm going to AC, NJ in a couple of weeks and I will get very tired of hearing "Re-calculating" if it's trying to route me whacky.

Fast

Seems like their turning the new maps out pretty fast. It doesn't seem like it's been more than several weeks since I installed 2013.1.

Done

Downloaded and installed fairly quickly. No hiccups.

LOL

So right after the download is complete - the Lifetime Updater pops up a message from the systray saying that a new map is available.

A little late!

Are you sure?

Just went to MyGarmin. All they show available is 2013.10, which I have already downloaded. Are you sure you're getting 2013.20?

We're all just BS'ing you.... It's on my 765T and on my computer in BaseCamp... why it's not telling you is a mystery. Try logging out of MyGarmin and logging in again...

Just wrapping up my second update for the 775. I skipped the 2013.10 for it. A bit longer for the DL as folks are cluing in. Went down to 660 KB/s from 1.2 MB/s for the 3790.

Took it with me on errands, and all seems to be well. No hard reset required at this point.

Actually, this release is a little late. The previous version,2013.10, was released on May 9th so we're 3 month and 1 week since the last one.

All 3 GPS's updated (1490 updated on SD card)with version 2013.2, large JCV file installed - all look OK . Will try out Junction View for real manana.

took about 4 1/2 hours total. Longest download was the JCV file.

Finally maxed the 750

With past map updates, my nuvi 750 was able to install the full North America internally after I removed most unneeded voice files and stuff, but this update finally caught me.

Since the 750 uses full-size SD cards, I finally found a use for my only non-micro SD card. The entire North America is now installed and runs fine from the SD card.

I just need to remember to never remove the SD card if I expect the nuvi to see a version of City Navigator.

This new City Navigator is about 90MB larger than the previous one. There must be a lot more detail, POIs or something built in.

Just downloading

Downloading to my 855 and when its done to my 3790.
Right now download time is about 40 minutes.

It's gonna be "Interesting"

I'm proceeding on as if nothing in wrong.....
Remember, I have the scrambled directory preventing me from backing up the 660...

But the 660 doesn't know that... and works anyway.....

I'll know in a couple hours.... (660 is USB1)

Update two Garmins at once?

I have two Garmins and they are both connected to my computer using the Garmin Lifetime Updater. Anyone know if it updates both units with a single download? I added them both under the settings button.

Best of luck

It downloaded the maps at 10Mb/s, installed the maps on my 3490 and is now installing new maps on the 3760. About 1 1/2 hours total.

Terry

Just an update. This is

Just an update. This is likely the last map update that will fit in a unit with 2GB. After this update I only have 33MB left in internal memory. My roommate's 255W is maxed out. I had to delete 23MB of unused vehicles from her device to fit the map.

Fortunately I'm prepared. I have a 4GB card for her and already have a 16GB in mine.

NO PROBLEMS!!!

Garmin 660
Map update went smoothly!! Tested in the car after the update...

With POI's installed 70.5Mb free

Without POI's installed 79.6Mb free

I've removed all but two voices.. Jack and Jill

I've removed all MP3's except the welcome MP3.
I've removed all JPEG's except the one we added for the Splash screen.

I've started to remove the excess vehicles.... still have 5-6 left, but they don't free up much...

I looked at the gpx directory... All files/directories other than current are gobbledy-gook dates... 2013 to 2060

Update went well, after installing all of Canada & US I still have 252mb of free space left smile

My 1490

This is the first time that I put the map on the SD card. The update went very smoothly today with no problems. My boot up time went from 18 seconds to 20 seconds now. I can live with that.
A quick check of Ft. Madison IA and Osage Beach MO show the new roads. I ran some simulations and found the large JCV file is fine.
