Is it just me, or is it taking a lot longer than usual for the file to be posted?

Thanks so very much rame. I've spent a week searching the net for this file and made 2 calls to Garmin support about its whereabouts. Garmin says 2013.20 was the last time they plan to issue the large file as a separate download.

From 2013.30 forward, the only way to get it is from some generous owner like yourself.

Hopefully you will be willing to post future files to your dropbox.

Thanks again.

Kudos, Factory members!

For the first time that I can remember, a single City Navigator NA NT map update announcement thread has been created rather than 2-3 threads announcing its arrival, sometimes with later threads started many days after the first post.

Could this mean that folks are actually reading the current threads before posting their "new" discovery?

Let's pat ourselves on the back. Well done, Users!

Yet more evidence that Garmin wants people to upgrade their GPS receivers, don't you think?

Yup.

Yup, that's the way I see it. If the 7x5 series is the only one left getting the full screen full coverage JCV file, it will not surprise me if Garmin stops producing this file altogether in future map updates. Then we will have to decide if it is more important to have updated maps or junction views.

Probably what's happening is people from other websites found my link and are now clogging up the server. That's the one downside to posting a public link to a file for download for you guys; other people who don't belong to this website will find it. It just means that some will just have to wait to download it. It's only temporary.

strange results 1450 down load

DL 2013.30 and it erased my large 2013.20 JV file on the SD card and installed an 87.6MB JVC file in the 1450.

One thing different I downloaded a smaller US map from OK east and KY south map size is 925MB.

Looks like I have more JV's than the smaller file but not quite as many as the larger file. Driving around in simulator mode proves this out.

So far I have been unable to DL the larger file due to excessive traffic and it seems as if Garmin will not be releasing the larger JV file on their site.

Did you receive the SD installation option?

The 1450 is part of one of the nuvi model lines that should automatically be given the option to install all of North America to an SD card in addition to the option of installing a smaller geographic area internally:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...

Did you receive this? Your installation of the USA east of OK and south of KY is the smallest I've heard about, even for a 2GB internal storage nuvi model. Was it your choice to install about a quarter of the USA rather than all of North America? As is, I hope you never need to drive west.

small map

I never drive west of OK or north of TN so the small map works just great form me. I did have the option to DL to the SD card but really do not need the rest of the US so opted for the smaller map.

Should I need the larger map no problem in downloading at that time.

What I was surprised about was the .30 download erasing my JV file on the SD card and installing a larger (87.6MB) than the minimum in the 1450.

I normally receive the small file with the download then download the large file to PC erase the old JV file and install the new one.

took the plunge

Downloaded 2013.30 to both of my 2460 units. Took about an hour on the first one (downloading to the "device" and computer), later in the evening I loaded the second, took four times as long to install even though it didn't have to download? Always seems to be that way too.

I'll do my Zumo 550 soon, that normally takes awhile.

Saving to "device and computer" installs the new map to the GPS and to the computer for use by Mapsource or Basecamp. If you have multiple devices and want to avoid the repeat downloads, you also need to check the tab that says something like "save installation files." Then to install to other devices without the need to redownload, you need to find the installation files and run them.

I think the installation files are kept in your computer's "temporary internet files" folder. Find, then run the installation file...maybe a msi or exe file. Someone with experience using the saved downloaded installation files for multiple installations needs to pipe in here with more detailed instructions. Otherwise, I think the map updates to other devices will require extra downloads.

Plz. correct me if I'm wrong folks--I've never tried saving the installation files when doing map updates and have never had to find where the files are stored and figured out how to start an update from previously-downloaded files.

yep saved them too (Installation Files)

For the second unit the download and prep were less than 30 seconds, because I d/l the first to the PC too, but the loading onto the second unit took a lot longer to do.

In fact #2 (the slower load) also said some of the map would be going on the SD card, at one point mine (#1) was taking forever to calculate a route so I did a hard reset, I then did the same to hers. I use mine everyday as a roll along map at work, she only uses hers for route and detours. I cleared my trip log but I forgot on hers, but yes, #2 has always been slower.

WOW I'm running late

Gues I'll have to get to downloading. Didn't realize it has been so long since I've been on here. Darn school work!

Finally!

The hard disk went flaky in our main desktop PC & after replacing it and spending 3+ days reloading Windows XP and all the applications (all my data was backed up, so I lost nothing), I finally got to the point where I could think about installing the new maps onto my 660.

I had previously removed all the unnecessary files to make room for the every enlarging maps, but even with that, the 2013.30 maps would not fit. I know I could have installed the full maps on the SD card, but I decided to install just the North America maps. I don't think I'll be traveling to Mexico any time soon. wink

The maps installed just fine. grin

All I can think of is to determine which GPS has the smallest amount of free space. Then find on your PC some odd file that is just under that size. Connect each GPS one at a time and then copy/transfer the file whiling timing it, just to see if the times are the same or different. If it shows that #2 is slower I don't know what the fix would be since I don't have one of these newer units but the time difference may tell you something. Of course delete the test files.

Best map for 3490 yet

Used 2013.30 on my 3490 for a trip (preplanned in Basecamp) from NH to NC this past Saturday. No lockups and no getting off/on interstate for no reason. Best experience for this trip yet.
2013.30 also fixed a strange planned trip error that existed with 2013.20. Running my 660 with 2013.20 side by side with 3490 and 660 locked up twice during the trip. Usually the 660 has been flawless with older maps, not so this trip.

DROP BOX COMMENT D3060080A.JCV

Rame's dropbox has been disabled for a long long time now. It appears it won't be reactivated and perhaps the 'traffic' has been continuously pounded in there by Garmin themselves to keep the download unavailable? Just a thought.
Maybe someone in our group could upload the JCV file and keep it somewhat quiet for a while? Don't know about everyone but I really enjoyed the larger JCV file during trips around the country.
I know, I could go buy a newer unit, but my 1490LMT is still doing the job.

I'm wondering when the next map update comes out, 2013.40, what will happen if I take my split-screen JCV file from my 2460 and use it on my 855 in place of the default full-screen jcv file with few JVs. I'd have tried it now except that I was able to download rame1012's 2013.30 dropbox JCV file before dropbox suspended downloads.

I'm not aware of anyone reporting their trying the split-screen JCV on a full-screen model although many have tried--and some prefer--using the full-screen JCV file on a split-screen-enabled nuvi.

In a worst case scenario, Garmin in the future could create model-specific JCV files (as they do map-update-version-specific JCV files now) that won't work in other GPS models and that'd shutdown all manual JCV file installations by users.

Full screen full coverage JCV.

It will be interesting to see on future map updates if Garmin distributes a full screen full coverage JCV at all. The only nuvi's that came with full screen JCV are the old 7x5, 8x5 and 1xxx series. The 7x5 is the only one left that still gets the full coverage full screen JCV directly from Garmin. How much longer will they continue to distribute this file for one discontinued model series?

I ran a couple simulations last night and I'm still getting full screen junction view on my 1450. I verified that I have just a single .jcv file on the device and SD card. It's the small file which now downloads with the map updates and changed the location of where it's stored, at least on my device.

2013.10 to.... on 1350LMT

When I went from 2012.40 to 2013.10 using GMU 3.1.12, it did "unable to authenticate". I got around this by using an older 3.0.11 GMU. I also have GMU 2.7.12 on hand.

I snoozed through 2013.20, but now I find that I can't fit 2013.30 on my 1350LMT.

It seems like this update has a good chance of complications. What should I do?

I tried it when Garmin first started automatically installing the 50MB file on units instead of the full file that users used to get. The end result of loading a split-screen JCV onto the unit will be that the image will stretch to fit the screen. It's readable, but not terribly attractive as the image is rather fuzzy and pixelated due to the stretching.

It seems like this update has a good chance of complications. What should I do?

Your 1350 will be offered the "install to SD card" option:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...

so with a good (Sandisk Class 4; 4 or 8GB is good) SD card, your update should work fine. It looks like you already are doing updates through myDashboard or myMap rather than by using Garmin's Lifetime Updater software--and that's good, too. Remember that at the end of the map update, the default is to then install Lifetime Updater to your computer. I suggest you NOT accept this default.

Note, too, that you'll get a small Junction View file but that you can manually download and install the large JCV file (around 750MB) in place of the small default--see elsewhere in this thread for info.

You could go through your 1350 and delete unnecessary files like foreign language voice, help and text files, but this may not be needed if you're moving the entire map file to a SD card.

It goes without saying, I'm sure, that for folks who have installed map updates to a SD card that the SD card is now essential to the operation of the nuvi so that you'll fully lose the City Navigator map and all its features if you try to run the nuvi with the SD card removed.
