Any

Any major change to a highway or city street that Navteq knows about or was notified about, at some point in past. There is no "change log" available anywhere.

There are hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions of miles of roads and streets in these maps so I think for the most part your going to have to find any updates on your own. Folks here have posted some that they have found already.

cn na 2013.20 bugs

I found a big bug with CN NA 2013.20 after I loaded it in my NUVI 1450LM.

When you are searching for a Point of Interest and you select the SPELL NAME option, the text entry displayed on the screen lags the touch screen entry and the delay is so bad that entering double or more characters is the outcome.

I'm going to go back to 2012.10 until this is fixed, as it is annoying whern searching for a location.

why

I have two identical 2460LMT unit's, one took the update in less than an hour, shortly after started the second and it's been 4 hours so far ....

--
. 2 Garmin DriveSmart 61 LMT-S, Nuvi 2689, 2 Nuvi 2460, Zumo 550, Zumo 450, Uniden R3 radar detector with GPS built in, includes RLC info. Uconnect 430N Garmin based, built into my Jeep. .

Problem Solved but Garmin is still writing poor software

My primary issue is I did not understand that Garmin wanted to install communicator as an add-on to Firefox. I have no clue why they would want to do that but I do not have Firefox configured to accept add-ons, especially ones that do not announce themselves. But eventually I flipped that switch and with another reboot of Firefox it worked. When I did my second nuvi I had much of this fun to repeat. In other words, Garmins software was not smart enough to recognize that communicator was already updated so I had to download the stupid thing again and reboot Firefox again. And even after the communicator problem was solved there was still more software to download before I could get new maps. Why? I download other files without any software loaded first onto my computer, let alone two programs.

I also put the maps on my computer while updating the first nuvi but still had to wait 3 hours on the second unit since it must still all come from the Garmin server again. Why?

I got no error messages, just a stupid do loop back around the Garmin process. No explanation, no messages, just repeated unnecessary nonense instead of the maps I already paid for.

I appreciate the comments that were trying to be helpful but for those of you that think all of this is OK and Garmin writes good software I have to disagree. This could easily be MUCH easier.

I've tried Liftime updater too but I've never gotten both nuvis to work and I've wasted a day before trying. So I did not try it this time. I also had a TERRIBLE time removing lifetime updater. It would hide and then show up again after I tried running uninstall on it. Eventually it finally allowed itself to be removed. To me, that is another sign of bad software.

My computer is desktop that was new in 2008 running Vista 64. I don't now think my virus protection was involved but it is McAfee. My virus protection and operating system are up-to-date.

A quick check of Ft. Madison IA and Osage Beach MO show the new roads. I ran some simulations and found the large JCV file is fine.

How do you put the update on SD card? I didn't seem to find the option.

Some Garmin GPSs are sold with "Full coverage NA" which includes Mexico. Some are sold with "US & Canada", some with just the "US" and I guess there are some with just "Canada". There are many map configurations so take a 2nd look before buying.

You can only update the map coverage you have, unless you pay for more of course.

Your dezl 560LMT maps do not include Mexico. Newer models (e.g. 3xxx,24xx/25xx) do.

Interesting that it would show me the option, if the option was unavailable. Not sure I understand it.

However, I don't need maps of Mexico anyway. I saw enough of Mexico when I was a teenager, and I don't think I want to try and find the same places again today! LOL!

Interesting. It was an early choice for me during the update (Install to SD card or install less than all of North America to the internal storage). I received the choice even without a SD card in the nuvi. I wonder if the choice is only offered if the Updater determines that your nuvi has insufficient free space to accept the full North America map update.

My experiences w/ installing 2013.20

t923347 wrote:

I just installed 2013.20 without incident. It took a couple of hours. Not quite sure how some installations take like only 33 minutes. I use DSL wi-fi; maybe some folks do the install at work over a T-1? Don't know.
Comments/issues/questions
1. The installation process DID NOT query if it should use the SD card.
2. The SMALL JCV file was installed in the unit, not the LARGE JCV file on the SD card.
3. After the installation, there was enough room on the UNIT for me to copy the large JCV file to the JVC folder (yeah, yeah, I renamed the original JCV file first).
4. There were three files installed on the SD card:
a) GMAPUPDATE.GMA (3 kb)
b) GMAPUPDATE.IMG (1,796,672 kb)
c) GMAPUPDATE.UNL (1 kb)
5. I've navigated with the new s/w just fine.
6. I haven't been anywhere to confirm that the LARGE JCV file works.

Questions:
Sound right?
Any reason the LARGE JCV shouldn't work?
Any comments?

Phil

Anyone else get 'lag time' when entering POI name in SPELL NAME?

Has anyone else experienced this display 'lag time' (that mi_masher experienced) when entering a POI name on the touch screen using SPELL NAME option?

I'm thinking this problem is more likely to be a device software problem or memory issue instead of a problem that came about with the latest map download. I guess a device that has reached its memory limit may react with a slow or lagging entry, which was ultimately caused by the latest map being larger in memory size...but it sounds like a device problem and not a map problem to me. Anyone else?

Comments/issues/questions

I got it done in 33 minutes because I have cable with their high speed contection. My upload speed is 7.5-8.00 mbs, and my download speed is about
55-60 mbs. DSL wi-fi comes nowhere of the speed compare to a cable contection. That's why my map updates take me less than 40 minutes all the time. Hope that helps why.

I've had the lag time with my 1450LMT since 2013.10 was installed. I didn't have the unit for a long time before that to know if the lag existed before that map. Kind of use to it now.

Jim may understand, but just not care.

koot wrote:

What that means is McAfee is crap. If anyone is going to spend money on antivirus, get Eset's NOD32. If you don't want to spend money, AVG or Avast work well and are frequently updated. Plus, they don't try and take over the system like McAfee and Symantec do.

Seriously though, it's far easier to bitch at Garmin for something like this than to look in the mirror at the real cause.

No update alert

For some reason my updater didn't tell me this new update was out.

Thankfully this thread is here. Downloading now.

keyboard entry lag

I have also experienced keyboard entry lag since the previous map update.

My guess is the cause is the very low amount of free space on the device due to the larger map size.

I don't think this latest map has any chance of fitting on my 750.

Maybe next week, when I find the time, I will put back an older (smaller) map on the nuvi 750, and put the latest map I have on SD card. I bet this will eliminate the lagging keyboard input problem.

Thanks for the update!

FWIW ... I don't suspect the memory because I have the full map on the SD card and loads of free mem on the 1450LMT internal memory ... though yours could be the memory if you're that low.

I think your 765T may receive the large file by default with the latest map update so no extra work would be needed. But your two nuvi 8x5 models could greatly benefit from the large JCV file.

Do you plan to put the file on a SD card or will you somehow try to squeeze it internally on the 8x5s? I'll suggest the SD card route.
