All of North America

With your nuvi and a SD card:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...

you could install all of North America rather than just the Lower 49 states. Given the low price of a 4 or 8GB SD card these days, that's a small price to pay for Canada and Alaska. (It makes Seward's 2 cents an acre to buy Alaska positively expensive in comparison.)

When I got to the 'choose map' option, I could only choose the lower 49, or a region of the lower 49 like the northeast. There was no option to choose all of North America.

Wow, I learned something. The nuvi 50LM is available in two versions of use to folks in the USA with a $10 MSRP difference between them:

nüvi 50LM, lower 48 states; 010-00991-21; $ 169.99 USD

nüvi 50LM, U.S. and Canada; 010-00991-20; $ 179.99 USD

I wonder how carefully this difference is labeled on the packaging, how careful merchants are about identifying which model is being sold online, and in general, which model is the one typically offered for sale in the USA.

This 2-model choice appears in the entire nuvi Essential series as well: nuvi 40 and nuvi 30.

BJ Warehouse

I guess I didn't research very well as on the BJ's website, this is what is listed under specs forthe nuvi 50LM:

•Preloaded with City Navigator NT street maps of the lower 48 states, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Bahamas, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Barthèlemy and Jamaica to help you find your destination.

I guess if I ever want to visit Papillion (or at least Louis Dega) I am in luck.

It never occurred to me there were two versions, and while I doubt I'll be in Alaska or Canada, it would have been better to buy the unit with those maps. When I'm next at the warehouse (I bought it there, not online), I'll look at all the boxes to see if any have all of North America.

French Guiana indeed.

nuvi Essential series map options - be careful (nuvi 30, 40, 50)

I laughed out loud at this! Good one. I guess the Ice Roads Truckers need to buy the other model.

But getting back to your first point: you're right that you don't need and won't benefit now or for a while into the future in adding a SD card to your nuvi. That certainly does simplify map updates since they'll load directly to the nuvi storage.

Thanks for the learning experience.

I love it

I just checked Amazon and see way at the bottom of the listing that they do indicate which model is being sold. What's so amazing is that Amazon sells the $10 higher (MSRP) priced 50LM for $8 less than the lower priced 50LM, at least right now. Check out the listings and see if you think the average buyer is going to see the difference in included maps between these:

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-n%C3%BCvi-5-Inch-Portable-Navig...

and

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-5-inch-Portable-Navigator-Canad...

You can actually buy

the Canada/Alaska map separately (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8750). Of course it probably costs half as much as you paid for your 50LM in the first place, but it is available.

I am not sure why Garmin has these model distinctions either ... I suppose their marketing research shows that if they can hit a certain price-point it will attract a certain number of buyers that would otherwise pass it over. But a $10 difference in price to distinguish the model is ridiculous in my opinion ... just eliminate the lower end model and put the full maps on all of them.

donaldb530, when you log into my.garmin.com, click on myMaps, then click on the "details" link next to your 465 LMT, what do you see? Does it show anything under "Map Downloads:"? If you scroll down, is there a section with a heading of "Map Updates:" and is there a listing under that for "nüMaps Lifetime™ North America "? And farther down, do you see multiple entries under "Installed maps:"?

I UN-installed Life-time updater, USB Drivers, Garmin update 3.1.14 and everything else that said Garmin. After that I re-installed everything. My-Dssh-Board, My-Maps, Lifetime update and web update ALL show that I am up to date with 2103.10

Garmin Support (via e-mail) says a software glitch exists some where.

No matter what I do 2013.20 does not show up as available.

Footnote - I installed 2013.20 on my old nuvi 255W with no problems (ie: my computer and software are OK.

Garmin support.

I think you may need to call (not e-mail) Garmin support to get this resolved. It seems like folks get results when calling Garmin support but just get frustration with Garmin's e-mail "support".

Been a Loong Time. . . .

Hi POI posters. Been a long time since I've been here. Got a question on updating the newest city navigator.
I just purchased the new N America lifetime for my Nuvi 360 (a classic, but still works great!!) a couple of days ago. I had a 4 gb sd card already in it. It wouldn't let me load the entire update onto my Nuvi as I didn't have enough space. So I went out and bought a 16 gb sd card. I tried loading it again this morning and still it says that I don't have enough space in my Nuvi. It did not give me an option to intall on my new sd card. Obviously the Nuvi 360 does not have enough space to install this. But I should be able to install and use the 16 gb sd card. Right? How do I install it on the sd card? The card was in the card slot of the Garmin. Or do I need to use the card slot on my computer? Do I need to format the new sd card before? I am using a iMac. Thank you.

There are several different ways

There are several different ways to install a map to the SD card. Probably the easiest and most strait forward method is to use the my.Garmin.com myMaps download link (not Lifetime Updater). When you get to the screen with the Install Options button, click that and select "Install to computer only". After the installation is complete, you will have an application on your computer named MapInstall. Run that to install the maps from your computer to the nuvi. In MapInstall, you will be able to select the SD card as the target of the install.

Sadly, your 360 is like my 855 and the automatic option to install to SD card is not offered by Garmin:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...

So your alternative is to install all of North America to your computer, then use MapInstall to copy the entire map to a SD card as suggested already by alandb.

For what it's worth, a 4GB should be sufficient to install the entire North America, especially for your 360 since there is no Junction View file for your series.

Nuvi 465LMT

Phone support finally said that there is a software glitch that they are working on. They told me to run WebUpdater once a week to see if the problem has been resolved.

I am surprised that there are no other Nuvi 465LMT users on this site that have had similar problems.

. . . . . . .

Okay. It took me several try's and after 3 hours I finally have the new update on my SD card. I ended up getting a 16 gb card. Overkill. I know. But it was so cheap. Only $12 for a Sandisk. So I installed the new update while the sd card was in my Nuvi slot. At first I had it in my iMac. Then I put it back in my Nuvi. Installed MapInstall from Garmin. And after about 25 minutes it was complete. Thank you to all that reponded. I really dont use my Nuvi much more as I use my iPhone's GPS more often. But it's still nice to have when I need it. Cheers!

City Navigator North America 2013.20

It's missing part of the St Lawrence river around Montreal. Montreal is an Island and so is Laval to the north. The rivers around these islands are missing. My 2013.10 is fine.

Just downloaded it

over the weekend.

Finally got it downloaded

Finally got it downloaded too. I did it via the website since using the Lifetime updater program on my pc, it just kept hanging at 1 minute left to go!

Still Missing Maps

I was on a cross country trip and the GPS went nuts recalculating because maps did not contain the roads I was traveling on. The roads I was on were new in that there were still signs of active construction.

760 and SD card

To fit on a 760, you need to remove all unneeded files like foreign language voice files, etc.

But an easier solution is to install a SD card in your 760. I recommend a 4 or 8GB card. With the SD card, you can install all of North America to the card with no extra effort:

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...

Note that if a map is installed to a SD card, this card needs to be present at all times in your 760.

Good news for 2013.20

Dane County in Wisconsin is now showing 2 round-abouts that are less than 2 years old.

So how do we know when these updates come out? Does Garmin notify us an any way or do we just need to keep checking the site, etc.?

What to do if map too big for 265W?

Also, my SD slot seems to be defective as the card does not stay in. Do I simply have to buy a newer GPS?

You sort of answered your

You sort of answered your own questions.

If the map is too big to fit in the internal memory, what doesn't fit can go onto the SD card. However, since your SD card slot's locking mechanism is apparently broken, that's not an option for you. Therefore, purchase a newer unit. Keep the old unit as an emergency backup.

Currently DL this version to my PC... My 465T does not have enough space. Estimated DL time 8 hrs..using Verizon MIFI card.

What files can I remove/delete and still have my GARMIN fully function? I do have a 512MB SD card, which I realize is not big enough.

Thank you in advance..
