Who Has Given Up Their Watch and Just Used Their Smartphone?

OK, admittedly, I did not give up my watch voluntarily...it is "under repair." In the meantime, I am stuck with just my smartphone to keep me informed of the time. How-some-ever, being in this predicament has made me aware that there are indeed several people who do not wear a watch and pull out their smartphone (or cellphone) when they want to check the time.

So, how many of you have taken the plunge and replaced your watch with your cell/smartphone?

My blue TAG has been with me since 1989, my iPhone since 2011. I'll keep my watch thank you!

Gave It Up A Looooooong Time Ago

With clocks all over the place, such as dashboards and appliances, there really is no need for a wristwatch anymore. A wristwatch is redundant.

Why I don't need a watch on an airplane

That was the final kicker for me... I don't want to spend the minutes and battery life to boot an Android phone in airplane mode just to find out if we're there yet.

My MP3 player has a clock if I really needed to know or care what time it was on the plane. Of course, I could just look at the time on my GPS if I needed to, assuming of course the airline allowed the GPS to be turned on during flight. wink

I just can't get used to not wearing a watch

I guess younger folks will make wrist watches pretty much obsolete. They will go the way of the pocket watch.

I gave up my watch, and use my phone. It isn't a smartphone, but interfaces with the bluetooth of my car.... and I have TEXT TURNED OFF at my request by my cellphone provider..... And I'm on DO NOT CALL List....

So yes, I have taken off my watch... and use cellphone, work and home for watch....

And if someone really wants to get a hold of me.. they will VOICE CALL ME! Cause that's all that works!

Have not worn a watch for years

Since I almost never am away from my phone, a watch is redundant. Given the availability of clocks on many of our objects - vehicles, computers, TV's, microwaves, stove, etc., even those without a cell phone could lighten the load and go without.

Why a Watch?

If you carry a cell phone, you do not need to carry a watch.

Good luck to all.

But

I do carry a cell phone but it's in my pocket, hence a pocket watch. Pocket watches were replaced by wrist watches because they are more convenient That's why I wear a wrist watch, for convenience.

Don't give your age away!

I was at an office party around Christmas time. I was told that a watch gives your age away. It also relegates you to low tech. So, no more watch. Who wants to seem older than they are anyway, and who wants to be out of touch with technology? lol

And guess what? My smartphone is even better, because when I check the time, I might see a missed call. When I wore my watch, I wouldn't even check.

Gotta travel on ... with my nuvi 2450LM.

I gave up on them

I was constantly needing new bands, and ruining them when working on cars, cause I never remember to take it off before painting or such, and they keep getting in the way when trying to reach into tight spaces. Even got my hand stuck a couple of times because it went down in the space but wouldn't come back out. They have just became a hassle when there is clocks everywhere nowadays, and I have my phone when there is not. It has even became my alarm clock, since it sits beside my bed at night anyways.

tks

tks

What's A Watch????

I retired 14 years ago. The only time I wear a watch now is when I am getting on a plane where I can't have my cell phone turned on.

agree

watchbands break so often I got tired of buying a new watch so just use my cellphone now. but I do like wearing a watch for convenience sake.

I think so too. At 66 I don't want to be whipping out my new "Pocket watch" Phone to check the time...too cumbersome for me, just my thoughts.

The watch I have on my wrist, a Seiko A904, is there just about 24/7. Our of curiosity as to how long I've owned it, I googled a bit. Discovered that it was on the market in 1989 - so I've owned it over 20 years.

It's a bit beat up, but still has the original band and runs well. (5-10 seconds a month fast)

Most interesting is that in good shape, it is selling for over $200.00. Just the faceplate is going for $20. I'm sure I didn't pay more than $50 new for it..

I'd never go back to a pocket watch.

Watch

I had to, my phone weighs so much I have to cut back wherever I can!

No need for a watch

For many years I had to wear a watch at work. Then some years back it was no longer required, so I quit.
I had a cell phone with the time, a portable phone, a desk phone, clocks on the wall all over the building. At home the oven, the microwave, the cable box and even the refrigerator gave me the time. When the electricity goes off it takes half a day to reset all the clocks. I certainly don't need a watch.

I Use What I Don't Lose!

I did not own a watch until I was 20 years old and have used only two watches over the past 40 years - a Timex and a Cardinal. I have had FIVE different cell phones/smart phones over the past five years. I lost one, cracked the screen on two and the other two suffered electronic siezures.

I am attached to my watch - at the wrist. My iPhone is just a tool. laugh out loud

I only wear my watch for

I only wear my watch for occasion other than work or errands around the house. The iphone has made telling time quicker due to it's large font and quick display.

sometimes

Watch is Casio solar recharged batter powered, atomic synchronized with compass and barometer. Very handy for not getting lost and not running out of power. But I often don't wear it because the smartphone can do that and more. If I'm going in the woods or travelling, I bring both.

Gave up a watch for a smartphone

Gold Watch

Force of habit, I look at my left wrist when I want to check the time. Plus why would I not use the gold watch I got from my employer for 25 years of employment? It's worth more than my cell or GPS and even though it has to be manually set when the time needs correction, Spring forward and Fall back keeps it within a few seconds of correct time.

Watch is back

Found a watch with a velcro band. Can't imagine that I went without a watch for so long, but time will tell if this one holds up.

Always wear a watch

I thought maybe I was the only one who liked the Casio G shock and I find all the responses on here mentioning them. Actually my son gave me a nice Citizen when I retired in 1999 and I wore it for a while but I wanted to not damage it so it sat while I wore a couple of Casios but not at the same time.anyway I replace:the battery a month ago and no luck. It didn't run and up to $180 for repair so I'm back to the Casios. The phone only if I have it out.

That's exactly the assumption that led me to look seriously at wearing a watch again, while on a trip. It's the one thing they won't tell me to turn off on the plane.

haven't worn one for years

Carried a pocket watch a lot of that time, though.

Don't miss wearing a watch. Not even sure how many are in the drawer in the bedroom -- probably three or four.

If I need to know, and there isn't something displaying the time nearby, I can get my phone.

For a lot of things, approximate time works.

And you can always rely on Dog Time -- ask the dog, "is it dinner time?" and the answer is always, "Yes!"
