Colors of roads on nuvi maps

For those who may have wondered, especially the newer nuvi owners like myself, I decided to email Garmin Tech Support and ask about the significance of the different colors of the roads as displayed on my 765T.

here is the reply from Garmin:

Quote:

The red lines are the major roads or interstates on the map. The bright orange will be the major roads . If your device is receiving traffic information, you may find the side of the road highlighted in yellow or red to show the severity of the traffic. If you switch the screen to Show Traffic Map the major highways or interstate turns to black lines on the map with a gray background.

and of course, magenta is your current route.

Road Colors

We had a discussion about this earlier. I believe we decided the red roads were Limited Access which includes freeways and Interstates as well as some major roads in towns. The yellow were secondary roads and included highways with grade crossings or virtually any one with a route number. The gray were minor streets and roads.

Often a road will change color - like from gray to yellow if you turn on to one and it is a through way. I have noticed this in some of my backroad wanderings.
