NA 2012.30 is available

I haven't downloaded it yet, but the lifetime updater says it is available. The download started but I aborted it because I prefer to use the older method of downloading since the new lifetime updater hangs at .05% when installing the computer files.

UPDATE: I am doing an install to the computer only right now, will probably update my 1450LMT later (or not, depending on the size of the JCV file).

Go back to the first page of this discussion and find the first post by wp3gi if this link doesn't work:

It has a link to the new large jcv file that works with this map update. The previous map's large jcv file won't work with 2012.30. You now need the ....40A.jcv file, not the .....30A.jcv file you're trying.

I would like to put the new large JCV file on the Micro SD Card and keeping the new map update on the device.I have 412MB free space and 4GB on the Card. I cant find a link for this procedure. Thanks

Check this link:

and look for the 8/12/11 8:56PM post with the Subject:

In a nutshell (OK, a large nutshell),

particularly paying attention to Step 5 (remembering to use the new 2012.30 jcv file, not the one described at the time for the 2012.20 map). You want the D.....40A.jcv file, not the D....30A.jcv file.

Good luck and have fun with the large number of JVs soon to appear on your SD card!

I have a D3191030A.jcv not a 40A file. It has a modification date of Nov.9th on it which is when i updated to 2012.30

It refers to several of the older full-screen JV-enabled GPSes, I believe. The 30A file I'm referring to is the previous map's D306...30A.jcv one while it appears your nuvi 3790 with the new map uses a D319....30A.jcv, a different beast altogether. I believe yours is a split-screen file while the add-on many of us with older nuvis need to manually install is a full-screen one.

I expect you have many JVs with the current and past maps and therefore can ignore all of us with older nuvis who need to jump through hoops and post many jcv posts to the forums each time a new map comes out to see more than a few JVs when we update our maps.

JCV File

The JCV file for the 765t seems to be a little more updated than the one for the 865t. It's 757 mb as opposed to 752 mb and has a different file name. A minor difference though. I received automatically from downloading the update through my Garmin. (not the new updater progam).

Can you please tell us the file name of the JCV file you downloaded for the 765t ?

thanks.

I haven't gotten any update messages from lifetime updater yet. I should probably uninstall it, it keeps on popping up with false notices of new maps and doesn't work when there is a new map.

US and Canada

After I downloaded the new maps (US and Canada) I checked the space available and it showed over 1GB free on my 2450LM...I have deleted most of the voices and other items I don't use. I have several pictures loaded on the unit also...lots of free space for future downloads...

...via my Garmin (not the updater program) I automatically got the D3060040A JCV file, which is the file that contains Garmin's full Junction view database. No additional download was required. I thought that for some reason the 855 series got the old D3060030A file associated with the last map update, but I was wrong.

I only have the one jvc file. File size is now 471 megs compared to 50 megs when i got it with 2011.30. Seems to almost double in size every time. Gonna give this some thought, might just delete the whole unit and then see what happens after the web updater gets finished with it.

Update

Jvc file size is now almost 460 megs. Smaller than before. It did not put all the directories back. Neither all files. BTM, DDB, ExtData and FCD directories are no longer there. Gonna have to do a real world test to see if it all works.

Hold Off

Considering the many comments here about the 2012.30 update, including the basecamp issues, I think I'll wait a while before installing it.

I have a road trip planned for next week & I don't have time to be playing around with installation problems.

Hello all,

New to the 2460LMT and I'd like to try the larger jcv file, but can't find a jcv directory on my nuvi. Does the 2460LMT have such a directory like, say, the 1450?

Can't Download NA 2012.30

After connecting my Nuvi 350 with the NA 2012.20 map, Garmin Lifetime Map Updater (Mac version 2.0.5) said NA 2010.30 was available, but when I did the download it didn't show up on my Mac. I went back to start over and GLMU says my map version installed is NA 2012.30 so it won't let me try again. I did check that NA 2012.20 is still installed on the Nuvi 350.

Several folks are reporting issues with this map update and Mac computers. From what I read here, the situation hasn't been resolved. But you are not alone.

Map Update

Installed .30 last night. They still haven't corrected my home location. Two and a half years and counting since I reported it now. Yes, I know, some have reported it taking up to seven years. Totally ridiculous. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to add the freeway extension that was completed near here last year. I don't know about you guys, but I would think keeping the maps as current as possible would be a top priority at Navteq and Garmin.

Thanks, Navteq!

In May, 2011 I reported two mapping issues in my neighborhood to Navteq. One street name was misspelled. On another street, the house numbers were backwards; that is, on the map the numbers ran east to west but in reality they actually run west to east.

Both issues were corrected in the 2012.30 update, just 6 months after they was reported to Navteq.

2012.30 updated to Nuvi 2495LMT (2012 model) ok

I used the map updater (windows xp) to update my 2495LMT. The new map appears in basecamp, mapsource and on the unit. Windows explorer reported 4.98gb used before the update and 5.08gb after. My supplemental maps work a bit differently with the new version and can cause a reboot of the device under circumstances I doubt many users would encounter.

NA 2012.30 is available

I downloaded 2012.30 to my 350 again using Garmin Map update. It worked where Lifetime update locked up. Lifetime update still shows I need to update the map on my 350. This morning I used lifetime update to load on my 1390. It loaded very fast and completed OK.

Yes the 1450 and the 2460 have pretty much the same directory structure.

The JCV directory is in a HIDDEN systems folder called .system. To see the .system folder you need to alter the Windows Folder View options to insure that all Hidden Systems Files and Folders are visible.

Thanks, worked for me

765t and 885t updated including large jcv

I had to be persistent but I got both my nuvis with lifetime maps updated. I used the liftime update program first on both but gave up after 3 tries on the 885t. Two tries worked on the 765t. I'm not sure I will try it next time. The 765t got the large 775mb jcv file with the new map. I had to put the map on my sd card for the 885t. I did that on the 2012.20 update and it is not a huge hassle, just an additional step.

This will be the first map with the large jcv on the 765t, it had 2012.10 maps and I got a liftime card from my daughter for my birthday. I like the large file on the 885t so I am sure I'll like it on the 765t.

I am downloading the update no.
I has been installing a while.
I do like the new update program. Especially how you can add multiple devices to keep track of for updates.

All...

went well with 7 Nuvi's of mine...even the junction views..with that many, as you might well imagine, it took a fair amount of time.

Thanks for responding t923347, I have the hidden files and folders set to 'show' but there isn't a .system folder anywhere to be found on the 2460LMT.

Mind you I was able to find the xxxx30A.jcv file in the hidden ProgramData - Garmin - Lmu Maps - NA2012.30, but no .system.

2012 units: no .System

This is because the new units don't have a .System directory, if I recall correctly. If you have a Garmin directory on the internal memory, try creating a directory named "JCV" (X:\Garmin\JCV\) and put the file in there. I don't have a 2012 unit so I can't test that for myself, but that directory structure works for the MicroSD Card. It may work for the internal memory now as well.

855 junction view

As an additional data point, I updated my 855 with the latest map update and have found junction views that I never saw previously. I am using only the default jcv file that was installed with the update.

I never installed the summer map updates (the first to have the smaller jcv file), so the last map version I had was 2012.10.

mine does

Two folder options

Eric ... there are two(2) folder view options you have to check.

One is to show "hidden" files.

The other is to show "system" files.

My 2460LMT has the hidden, system subdirectory called ".system"

I'll bet you don't have you only have one of the the folder options checked.

If you have Mapsource on your PC then the new maps will get added to the software. Note that with this latest update Basecamp will also get installed on your computer. Basecamp will eventually replace Mapsource, which Garmin has announced will no longer be updated.

The map updates are full replacements for the maps already on your GPS. They are well over 1GB in size and could take 4 or 5 hours to download on a slow broadband connection.

You may well have to order the DVD as I think the update process checks to insure you have a high speed connection, and if you don't, will not allow the update. Not 100% sure but I do know it checks the speed of the connection and reports if it's to slow.
