NA 2012.30 is available

I haven't downloaded it yet, but the lifetime updater says it is available. The download started but I aborted it because I prefer to use the older method of downloading since the new lifetime updater hangs at .05% when installing the computer files.

UPDATE: I am doing an install to the computer only right now, will probably update my 1450LMT later (or not, depending on the size of the JCV file).

2350LMT JCV file

I just update a Garmin 2350LMT and received the D3192030A.JCV at 157,065 KB.

Installed the D3060040A.JCV (775,464 KB), GPS no longer has the split screen with this JCV file.

The 865 gets the small file by default as well.

Just a heads up - BaseCamp

Greetings again,

If you're like me and haven't installed BaseCamp on your computer, note that if you choose to install 2012.30 to your computer as well as to your GPS device, that you will have BaseCamp installed once the update's complete.

I guess I'll have to look around and see what it's like. I've avoided it so far since I'm familiar with the now-outdated-but-still-useful Mapsource.

On the last map update, I used the 37xx JCV file on my Garmin 2350LMT GPS (D3191021A.JCV 457,255 KB)and had split screen with this JCV file, waiting to find the JCV file for the 37xx and test with the 2350LMT.

Yes that is the one I am looking for too. The one from the 20012.20 map worked quite nicely for me. I just put the 700 meg file on my 2350 and it works, but it gives the whole screen image instead of the split screen image and it only lasts for a brief time. Would prefer the split screen image.

Nope. Mapsource remains while BaseCamp is added. BaseCamp also finds all my Garmin-compatible maps from Mapsource during its installation, including my free Arizona Topo, and builds them into BaseCamp's map choice dropdown selector.

Thanks alandb. Option 2 download worked. Took about 50 minutes to load into my 1490lmt. I disabled the JCV file in the hidden system files and downloaded the new large D3060040A.JCV file in my micro SD and every works fine. Tested on a known route with four junction views and they were all there. Kudos to Garmin for doing the right thing by releasing this large file.

diesel, I have no experience with the new Lifetime Updater but the "Option 2" manually updater works well. When you say it doesn't work, just where/how is it not working? Did the small downloader file that starts the update process download? If so, did it run and open a small startup window? If so, does the update fail at the download, preparation or installation step?

Have you successfully done a map update before? Do you have a broadband connection?

If you're using a Windows computer, there's a chance that there's a UAC permission window (which sometimes hides behind other open windows) that needs approval.

Give us some more info and we'll see what the combined members here can do to help.

Oh, Yeah, I've Done This Before

CraigW,

Thanks, and I've done this before, plenty.

MacBookPro, running Lion 10.7.2, Garmin GPSMAP60CSx, DSL 3-6 MB service. As you probably know, the 60CSx has been around, so I've been at this for a while. Never had a problem like this, things usually went pretty smooth. I think Lion is new since the last update.

Although you guys were downloading the 2012.3, Lifetime Updater wasn't reporting it as available for me. I eventually got to it via MyGarmin.

The "Option 2" manual updater crashed during the install. Actually, it immediately triggered a failure notice upon initiating opening, but continued to open. The manual updater eventually opened, I tried it, it crashed at the point where it was to do the actual installation (the diagram shows the GPS and computer).

Apparently, through all this, 2012.3 has downloaded, the Lifetime Updater says my maps are up to date with 2012.3, but anything 2012.3 is nowhere to be found on my computer. I think I initiated the download somewhere in MyGarmin, and I was able to watch progress of the download with the Lifetime Updater. I've searched, and searched, it's not with the other maps. Something has been downloaded, just not installed yet. Also, 2012.3 isn't showing up as a map option in BaseCamp.

NEWSFLASH: I just reinstalled the maps via LifeTime Updater, I get a little window that says the maps are updated, but nothing is there. Nothing in the folder with the other maps, 2012.3 doesn't show up as an option in BC.

NA 2012.30 is available

I tried to download this yesterday using lifetime updater. After 9 hours it was hung-up downloading to my nuvi350 at 90% and I killed it. Tried to download again this morning and the system will not let me. The 350 shows the correct map and seems to be working ok but I am very reluctant to try it on my second one which is a nuvi 1390. Also it did not download the map to my PC which is set in the options.

Is Second GPS quicker?

This is a curiority question, I will be doing this soon myself and will know. But for those of you with multiple GPSs to update, does it go quicker for the second GPS? It seems like the new updating process uses the computer's storage capacity and that could make it quicker after the map is downloaded once. If anybody has noticed, I am curious.

Jim

.

It will likely be much quicker updating a second unit since the files have already been downloaded...BUT, using my 3790's download to update my 765 (both have Lifetime updates), the Lifetime Updater errored out at the completion of the main map (although it transferred to the unit just fine) and refused to update any other aspects of the GPS like the 3D Buildings file and the Junction View file. The 765 was left somewhat crippled without these files on the unit. I tried running the updater multiple times with the same result. I had to revert to copying the 3D Buildings file and the Junction View file from the 3790 to the 765...all is fine using this work-around.

As for why exactly the Lifetime Updater refused to fully update the 765, I don't have a clue. I did NOT try to re-download the update for the 765 specifically (and don't know if that even would have helped). In the past, I was able to update multiple units using the same download package. It could have been an issue with the Lifetime Updater...the only way for me to verify this would be to re-download the update specifically for the 765 and try it again.

JCV Files for NA 2012.30

It appears that there are at least 6 different JCV files for the new NA 2012.30 map update:

The 3790 gets a 449.1MB file: D3191030A.JCV. This is the full split-screen file.

The 3760 and 3750 get only a 153.4MB file: D3192030A.JCV This is the medium split screen file.

The 7xx series gets a 44.3MB file: D3153040A.JCV

Other units get either a 241.9MB file: D3080040A.JCV or a 123.9MB file: D3478020A.JCV

And, for units that have the space, you can download and install the full 757.3MB file: D3060040A.JCV

2350LMT using 3790 JCV file

I obtained the D3191030A.JCV file (459,865 KB) for a 3790, installed the D3191030A.JCV on the 2350LMT, split screen is working correctly on the GPS. The D3191030A.JCV file is compatible with the 2350LMT.

Guess what?

This update worked lickety split in more ways that one for me. It did install Base Camp. Junction view works and so does Voice command. What was always a headache for me, was installing Topo Maps on my units. No more. Since i have them for Canada and USA it did ask me to install Topo Canada and Topo USA. This was all through Mapsource. It would never make it so easy for me before. I don't know if Base Camp had anything to do with it but I had that loaded before and it was a pain. The first thing i did was to try to put the US Topo onto my unit. Highlighted the section I wanted and transfered it. Then, when I looked for it, i found it in a directory it made called "Map". We talked about where it would go in here and that was where it should also go onto the sd card. So then I went and let Map Source transfer it to my sd card. Then did a Topo Map of parts of Canada and also transfered it to the sd card. Surprise surprise I looked at the sd card and no director called "Map" and only one file there, not 2.
Which means it combined them. Both US Topo and Canada Topo in the same gmapsupp.img file. They show up as two maps though when i turn on the unit. What ever Garmin did, Kudos this time from me. Made my life a whole lot easier smile

On my two Windows 7 PCs, both the new 2012.30 and previous 2012.20 map updates are listed in "Programs and Features," the Win7 name for your XP's "Add and Remove Programs" and therefore can be uninstalled by the standard Windows process.
