NA 2012.30 is available

I haven't downloaded it yet, but the lifetime updater says it is available. The download started but I aborted it because I prefer to use the older method of downloading since the new lifetime updater hangs at .05% when installing the computer files.

UPDATE: I am doing an install to the computer only right now, will probably update my 1450LMT later (or not, depending on the size of the JCV file).

1490LMT to 2012.30

I updated my 1490LMT to 2012.30 and the JCV file I received was D3153040A.JCV 44.3 MB. I ran a test trip to view the junction images and the images had less detail then the full JCV file. The 44.3MB file simply shows 2 generic looking roads with purple arrows showing which direction to take. The full D3060040A.JCV 757 MB file had much more detail including buildings in the background.

I can't say yet if I noticed more JCV images on the route with the larger file versus the smaller file. The 2012.30 44.3MB file seemed to show more images then the 44MB 2012.20 file just less detailed.

Overall the update was smooth using the dashboard. I'm traveling from Philly to D.C today so hopefully I'll have more "good" to report.

My guess is that for folks like you in the busy and populated eastern parts of the US around big cities, you will see better images (photo-realistic) with the larger jcv file but may not see many additional junctions with a Junction View. However, folks living or driving in areas with low populations (northern Arizona, for instance along the I-40 and I-17 corridors) the larger file will offer Junction Views while the small jcv file has no image to show.

This was true in the previous map update and from the file sizes, I imagine it's still true. But I never tested the new small jcv file along I-40 in AZ--I simply added the large file and see that I'm maintaining Junction Views in these areas.

I have broadband light and it took closer to 10 hours,, my suggestion is to start it before going to bed and it should be almost done when you get up.

That is the PhotoReal images and one of the reasons that the file is 757MB in size.

Garmin site having problems

I updated my 2450 and my main computer eariler but now when doing my update to my netbook Garmin said to try again later because of problems with their web site. Hope they get it fixed soon.

Edit: It took 1 and 1/2 hour. Last time it took 40 minutes.

Can't find my .jcv file. Doing a simulation but it is not showing jv where it showed it. I think my file is not there.
I have a 2450. I guess I need to redownload the new map.

It doesn't

It doesn't show because it's in a hidden systems folder. You need to alter the default Windows Folder View Options to show all hidden files and folders and all systems files and folders.

Caution, revealing hidden systems files will make them easier to delete by mistake, after all, that's why they are hidden in the first place.

I do have systems files to show. When I was looking for the size of the file I went into the JCV folder and it said it was empty.

I just completed reinstalling the new map. It went a lot faster...33 minutes. I only said reinstall to device.

After it completed I looked in the JCV file and it now showes 449MB D3191030A.JCV.

It looks like something wasn't working correctly when I install the first time.

Didn't I read that the new .jcv file should have a 40 in it and not a 30 as mine does? I guess as long as it works it will be ok.

Thanks for the advice about the hidden system folder. At least this time I had it showing.

The

The JCV file that ends in 40 is the one you need to download separately from the Garmin website. The one that ends in 30 is the correct one if you obtained it as part of the map update.

I read earlier that if I download the larger one my unit won't be split screen.
Think I will just keep the 30 that came with my map.
Glad to know it wasn't from the previous map.

765T JCV file

Can you please tell us the file name of the JCV file you downloaded for the 765t?
I saw the question posted earlier, but didn't see a reply.
Mine got the 757 JV, but the name is D1279120A.jcv, which shows up as 775,464kb, but the properties show it as 757 mb, and a created date of 11-13-11, when I downloaded it yesterday.

Well the Lifetime Updater

Well the Lifetime Updater does just that for me, takes a Lifetime. After two different attempts over the last year I've managed to get it to complete two out of three times. Done with it. No more. Spend that much time with the process and have it not work is NOT labor saving. Today"s attempt to get the new NA map onto my Nuvi 270 and it got to 90% and stalled with the word "installing...." on the screen.

I went to the Garmin website dashboard and was told that my maps were up to date. I have 2012.20 installed. What gives? Why can't I get the new map.

Sounds like more of the same

Sounds like more of the same - jcv confusion.

At least Garmin is providing the larger JCV file to download from their website.

My old model doesn't do junction views anyway, so it doesn't affect me.

I might upgrade to a newer model.

Look in Download History

I know a few updates ago it stated I had no new updates but went into history and the new update was there as if I had already downloaded it.

I had fun

Having 3 GPS's I thought I would be smart and download to PC first, takes longer but should cut down on BB time, right? No way Jose, yes it worked for one GPS, but others showed no unlock maps after tranfer from PC. You have to download each GPS from Garmin site, one by one.

Which one?

windwalker wrote:

I'm not clear what you've done. When doing a Garmin City Nav NA NT update, there are two options (from the window after clicking Install Options button) that sound a lot alike.

One is Install to Computer (or Install to Device and Computer) and the other is something like "Keep download files on computer." The first installs the map to your computer to be used by Mapsource or BaseCamp. The second should keep the large installation files on your computer for installation to 2nd-3rd-etc Garmin devices that also have lifetime updates. This second choice should avoid the need for a full download for your 2nd and 3rd GPS units' updates.

My guess is that you want to check both boxes during your first GPS update: install to computer and keep installation files.

Good luck. Of course, if this is what you're doing, we'll need more thoughts from others...

Garmin said up to date BUT new map found BUT can't download

clint751 wrote:

I went on Garmin and it said there was no new map available for my 765t. It did say that my 2012.20 download was not complete so I decided to install it again. When I ran map install, it said new map 2112.30 was available but I did not have enough room on my computer to download it b/c I needed 7 GB of space. You have to be kidding me - 7 gigabytes of space? Is this a joke?

too big file

This update is too big and used all of my 4GB space. Any way to save some space?

Find

Find it hard to believe that if you are installing the update to a 4GB Nuvi, you'd run out of space, but who knows. confused

Anyway, you can gain space back by deleting all the voice, text, help, EULA, and vehicle files that you don't need (files for other languages mostly). That will clear a lot of space.

That almost sounds like you have two different maps installed on your GPS.

275 and no more space to keep US+EU maps together + POI

I had to delete all POIs from my Garmin 275T to install 2012.30 US update (still having older EU maps in there). I deleted unneeded files the last time, so what gives?

I will have to cancel some POIs, no way all of them fit in there and since last firmware upgrade on 275, my unit doesn't read POI files from the SD card .... grrrr ... annoying...

My advice is to bypass Lifetime Updater, log in to my.Garmin.com and use the map update installer (option 2 on the map download). Although some have had succes with it, many uers continue to have problems with Lifetime Updater.

Got It Fixed!!!!

Well, after a little over 2 hours with Garmin, the problem is fixed.

I suspected that the 2012.3 was downloaded but I couldn't find it. I was right. The maps were in the cache library, but were not copied over to the proper maps folder to close the installation.

We located the maps and manually moved it over.

All is now good.

NA 2012.30

Smilies,

I'm near Colorado Springs, CO, a location a far piece east of Phoenix, and the download isn't available to me as of today, November 17th. A check of my 2350LMT (Tools>Settings>myMaps) shows the unit is still running 2012.20 ALL. And yet when I check to see if map updates are available using either the Garmin Lifetime Updater.app or check for updates on Garmin's Web site I get a "Your Maps are Up to Date" dialog.

Frustrated,
Bill

map update

Bill, if you log on to my.garmin.com, then click on the myMaps Tab, which version is it showing for your installed map version? If it is showing 2012.30 on myMaps but your nuvi is still showing 2012.20, it would be easiest to just download and reinstall. Use option 2 (map update installer) on the map download screen.

Well, the question is best answered by deciding which is better for your needs: split-screen or full-screen junction views. The 750+MB file is so large because those images are full-screen.

There's just one .ASR file in the \Garmin\Asr directory in my nuvi 855 with the new map:

01YWSTTT.ASR

759611KB

Please be sure to make a backup of your Garmin files to a computer before trying changes/additions/deletions on your nuvi.

Welcome to the POI Factory. Shout if you need more help and let us know what solved your problem when it's fixed.

thanks

for the quick reply. I did make backup of Garmin so I am going back and forth trying to find out what it is. It seems to start the simulation, start to say the street name, and it shuts off.

hopefully it just need reinstall of the map.

855 ASR

In addition to the file named by CraigW, 01YWSTTS.SRX with file size 2,647,031 bytes was also downloaded on my 855 in the \Garmin\ASR folder by the 2012.30 map update. These two files replaced the old files 01YOQ874.ASR and 01YOQ874.SRX from the 2012.20 map download.

for the file info CraigW and alandb. It seems like there was something weird with old ASR file and replacing it seemed to fixed the issue. Also did update of TTS voice files.
