When you get to the screen that says ready to update your maps, the advanced button is in the lower left corner.

And Mapsource will be updated to v6.16.2 if you didn't already have that version on your PC since. That is the newest version of Mapsource.

I am aware of the Advanced tab option of installing the map on your computer as well, but that's not what I am looking for. I am looking for the .dmg file with the freshly downloaded, not-yet-installed map. It took me 5 (yes FIVE) tries to get the new map loaded without the unit losing communication with my computer before it was done. I do not want to risk re-installing it on the unit in case the successfully installed map becomes corrupted.

Do any Mac users have any idea about this?

This new download process doesn't save a dmg file of the map that I've been able to find... just the map loader, which will show up in your Downloads folder. It apparently downloads to a hidden temporary file that erases itself after a successful install.

If you're using RoadTrip, and installed the maps to your computer and device - the maps themselves reside in a directory at: /Users/(your username on your computer)/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Maps

I have never seen the Advance Button when downloading the new maps.

The Advanced Option has only been part of the City Navigator NA NT update procedure since May 25, 2010. Earlier updates used a different procedure.

It was a easy fix.Just went back and selected install to computer only after putting on gps.

Sorry for a double post from another thread....

I just bought 2011.10 on DVD from Garmin (yet it has not shipped yet). I'm wondering if they do send me 2011.10, would I be eligible to upgrade to 2011.20 for free? Timing is everything isn't it! This is for my 765T.

After install quirk

On rebooting my 765T, I got a splash screen that said my maps were over a year old and I should upgrade - after having just upgraded. Oooops. A bug I can live with smile

You need to get out of your neighborhood more often.

Sorry to "pole on" but it struck me a pretty funny that only new roads in your neighborhood mattered. I know that is not the case.

I read on another forum that there is a problem with the 2010.20 map update that affects all 37xx Nuvi models. Garmin is working on a patch, which should be available in a day or so.

I own a Nuvi 755t. Two weeks ago upgraded from a Garmin GPS III+ I've had for several years.

I bought the nuMaps Lifetime updates today.

I have BaseCamp and MapSource installed on my system. I did not have anything but basemaps and a very old version of Topo USA installed on my computer.

I updated to 2011.20 without a hitch. During the install I chose Advanced options. I selected to have the updates installed on both my 755t and computer.

I now have 2011.20 installed on my 755t AND it is available in MapSource and Basecamp. Of course 2011.10 was available in BaseCamp if my 755t was plucgged in, but now 2011.20 is available for use even if I don't have my Nuvi connected to my system.

Awesome extra for the upgrade with the LifeTime maps purchase.

Just downloaded and installed. Took 89 minutes start to finish. Yea, the servers are busy, but it all went smoothly.

Have noticed the re-download expiry date is now ONE YEAR from now in 2011. Interesting.

Total space on the nuvi (from mygarmin), went from 4013.7 to 3989.7 megs. 24 megabytes in size. Dang small for an update!

Time to play with the new maps!

Garmin Maps

Question: Do you think the nuvis would be faster if you only updated them with just the United States from MapSource? When you download from Garmin you get all of North America. What do you think?

Thanks

Thanks - going to download it now!!!

2011.20

All is perfect...

Yes, only loading the US does help. Less data, less time to load or search. Of course, you'd have to load Canada and Mexico etc. on an SD card, or reload the map again.

Not working well for me

Servers must be overloaded. It is downloading at a glacial pace. Very frustrating.

download speed

It's going slow also because it's around a 2 GB file, which would take a long time even if the servers weren't busy

2011.20 slow

Installed no problems except

Had to install microsoft net framework first - that took quite a while for some reason.

Map install painless (I was asleep).

Looks like they may have fixed the intersections / exits on the new I-64 in St. Louis - I'll check on my next trip to downtown.

Not really the process is much easier now and a lot faster.I for one was use to the old method before that done the download to the gps and computer on defult.Should have seen the advance tab on the change.Prefer the new method.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm aware that's where the maps are stored after they are installed. If you'll notice, what I am looking for is the location of the *uninstalled* .dmg file.

I much prefer the old installation method, for whatever it's worth. The new "dumbed down" process might be fine and dandy for a "non-computer person" but as a pro user, I much prefer the control I used to have over the various steps of the process.

There is no longer even a resume feature for a 2.5 GB download. That's a step backwards, not an improvement.

2011.20 released

Too bad. I bought nuvi 255w last week and used onetime update offer a few days ago for 2011.10.

I never updated my nuvi’s

I never updated my nuvi’s map using Garmin’s WebUpdater (755T is less than a month old) so am wondering when you select ‘advanced’ mode in order to update MapSource version, do you actually get 2011.20 Ready to be installed (like if you bought upgrade map) or it installs itself and you cannot repeat installation process without another WebUpdate connection?

If it is later, what happens when you reformat your hard drive, change PC, etc.??? I have 60 days for free map update since first satellite connection and would not like to just load map into GPS or MapSource like dummy. I want control what areas to load to GPS (using MapSource) since I definitely do not need Mexico nor most parts of USA.

JeffGoobs wrote:

I can't see anywhere it saved the map dmg file - apparently the 'new' process save to a temp file that gets deleted after successful install. I did find out if a download crashes, and you start it again, it will pick up where it left off... but, if you go to re-downlowd, it starts from scratch.

@HagaWaga

You don't use Webupdater for maps.Go to https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces and sign in then go to manage maps. When you download the maps you will see advance on lower left before you start the download. You can select install to computer,to gps and gps and computer. You will get the mapsource installed using to computer and to computer and gps.If you don't select advance it goes straight to gps by default.
