Nuvi price is dropping fast.

It is the time!

They were sold at a loptop price (350 $450-$550; 360 $550-650).

Since the "generic" GPS (such as MIO C310X) have been sold for under $200. The pressure is building up. Recently, Costco started selling 350 for $350, Amerzon is following. Last time I checked, a 360 is for ~$460. Another $50 drop will make these units more reasonablly priced.

Only $50 less to go (that is, I'd pay $299), and I'll get one! Right now I'm still happy with my c340. I paid $270 for it last August.

Sorry about the problems you both had with Amazon. I've never had that problem with shipping.

I purchased mine from Amazon.com and paid $429.00 with free shipping and not sales tax. I also wrote a review of it on their website. For me dropping below the $500.00 mark for the selling point.

I just got my first GPS, the Nuvi 200W, in early January. I paid far less than the 'list price,' which reviewer sites such as CNET said was a big knock against an otherwise good platform. So, I have no 'buyer's remorse' after my purchase and I'm very happy with the performance and styling of the 200W.

Now, there's a fork in the road for all first-time buyers of a GPS I suppose: Do you buy an entry-level model and use it for a year or two before deciding whether you need to upgrade? And if you do feel the need to upgrade, you can be sure that those same dollars will buy a much more capable unit than you have now. It's a thesis for entering at the low end and riding the technology-up/price-down wave for a year or two.

The other direction is to buy the best and most you can afford right from the get-go. My investigation suggested that more dollars buy more features...not necessarily better performance. I don't think I want a GPS that can play my U2 songs, for example. Or 'reading' a book to me. And I laughed when I heard a higher-end Nuvi botch 'Muscatanipus Road' with the text-to-speech capability. My Nuvi 200W has none of those things, and I'm not (thus far) pining away for them. In two years or so, I may well want to buy a new GPS. And the same $220 I paid for my Nuvi 200W will surely buy me a great unit in 2010...once I really come to grips with what matters to me and what doesn't.

Wow you take a look at this thread

See when the first post is on it and follow the drop in prices over a year. It's amazing how much one poster paid $999. I know when you buy any tech product forget about comparing the price you paid and what someone paid at a later date it will only make you crazier.

Nuvi 680 extra warranty

I hope all you guys who are getting rock bottom prices on the Nuvi 680 are buying the extra warranty.......I think the price is dropping so fast because they don't last long.......I paid 999.00 when they first came out plus 100.00 for the 4 year extra warranty......I am on my third unit so far.......from Best Buy and never had to pay another cent for exchange..........Dave

Is this typical for the 680?

Is this a typical customer experience for 680? Sounds like DaveK3131 has had more than his fair share of bad luck.

Best Buy is apparently

Best Buy is apparently selling them for either $479 or $599 based upon their inventory level. I bought one last weekend for $599 in Montclair, CA and then went to the Pasadena, CA store on Monday they had it for $479. When I asked about the discrepancy in pricing it was relayed to me that the clearance price of $479 all depends on inventory levels. Thank goodness they have 30 day price matching!

Matt

Not Sure

If anyone mentioned this or not but my local BestBuy here in Santa Rosa will price match internet ads on the Garmin AND, they are hurting so bad for sales that some people are naming their prices and GETTING the unit for it! My buddy just bought a 32" LCD HD TV listed at $999.00 and made them an offer of $729.00 and they took it!

Garmin nuvi 750

In reading these posts from over the last year it seems that GPS prices are falling like a rock. I found the 750 on sale last week for $299, which is at least $100 cheaper than I've seen it anywhere else. Hopefully it doesn't come down in price anytime soon or I'll be kicking myself for not waiting longer.

Yeah, it's new today and old

Yeah, it's new today and old tomorrow...Ah well, with the price coming down perhaps this will open the door for more people creating more POI files which would benefit us all. I still love my 660 though, I can't imagine what else I could want in a GPS unit other than having it do the driving for me while I look out the window and the sites! (LOL)
