Nuvi price is dropping fast.

It is the time!

They were sold at a loptop price (350 $450-$550; 360 $550-650).

Since the "generic" GPS (such as MIO C310X) have been sold for under $200. The pressure is building up. Recently, Costco started selling 350 for $350, Amerzon is following. Last time I checked, a 360 is for ~$460. Another $50 drop will make these units more reasonablly priced.

Maybe dumb question

I dont know if this is dumb or not but could i buy a gps on the internet and then get an extended warranty at Bestbuy?

Is the 750 better than the 650?

IMHO, it depends what your needs are. The majority of users will be more than happy with a 650. I own an older Garmin unit which does all the things the new 750 does. I don't find multiple waypoints, Track-log and Route optimizing to be at all useful for my purposes. Some will find these features useful for route deliveries or off-road, etc.

Paul

.

I agree that it depends on your needs, but one of the biggest gripes from nuvi owners is the lack of stored routes and the lack of having multiple waypoints in a route.

Warranty

Most Consumer Electronic stores like BestBuy will not warranty products that are not sold by them...but once in a while you'll run into exceptions. Go into the store and ask, you might get lucky.

Nuvi 36- for $402

Just bought my Nuvi 360 for $402 from Buydig.com. Found this site and am VERY pleased to have done so! Looking forward to exploring more and hanging out!

Andy

Nuvi 750, 770, 780

I suspect the drop in Nuvi prices is due to the Garmin announcement regarding the new models.

I think I will wait for a 700 series, I like the feature of having 10 routes.

Cheers,
Leslie

Nuvi 680 for $685

Bought a nuvi 680 on 8/20 for $685 from amazon.com.
I compared with Sam's Club, Costco (both of which only had the 660 if I recall), Best Buy/Circuit City which were the most expensive... Best Buy was about 900 bucks).

Same price I bought it for last May $499. plus tax. Any takers? Didn't think so. Jake

Not The Kind of Buyer...

You may be correct that he could be shady...but I have purchased two Nuvi 680s from him and referenced several other people to him that saw my Nuvi...each of them have been very satisfied...HE EVEN DROVE FROM BUFFALO TO TORONTO each time to personally deliver the units to us!!!

I did misquote the price of the Nuvi 680...he sells them for $650USD but NO TAX! They are brand new...mine still had that sticker on the screen of the unit.

The only reason I wont give out the number is that I am not sure if it is against website policy to publish phone #s...anyways, he advertises on either Kijiji or Craig's list....just type in Nuvi and you will see his add.

sounds like a five finger discount to me, I could be wrong though. or he could be one of those old traveling salesman. hahaa

Got the Nuvi 350 at Wolf

Got the Nuvi 350 at Wolf Camera for $300. It was a special price, and they don't offer it at that price any longer. Stores in my area sold out before they even opened on the first day of the sale. Got mine because I called ahead and they held one for me.

The Nuvi 660 I bought from

The Nuvi 660 I bought from Sam's was right at $589 I think. If I can sell my 660 for a reasonable price I might get a 700 series if the prices are right at that time.

I just received my Nuvi 350 by FedEx today

I ordered my Nuvi 350 from PC Nation over the internet for $353 with free shipping and no tax. The free shipping took 3 business days and the unit was brand new in a sealed box. I am now trying to learn how to get around the unit and plan to give it a test run tomorrow on a day trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.

Just A Question

alandang wrote:

buy at costco wholesale , you will have a year to return.

I don't shop at Costco's, but have a question. How do you know when you purchase something such as a GPS or other items, that it isn't one that someone has used for several months and returned? Does Costco put a sticker on the package that it is a returned item? They must have a ton of returned items if people really take advantage of this return policy, and I am sure they must. Its really kinda cheap on the buyers part. I can see a 30 day return, but a year?

Costco's policy

alandang wrote:

This is not true. Costco guarantee your satisfaction without time limit. I've seen people return items that they bought years before. Exceptions: Televisions, projectors, computers, cameras, camcorders, iPOD/MP3 players and cellular phones must be returned within 90 days of purchase for a refund. (Notice, GPS is not in the list....yet)

Unlike Fry's Electronics, all returned items are shipped back to the manufacturer/vendor (it's in their contract). My golfing buddy is a good friend with Costco's VP in purchasing. As a part of doing business with Costco, all vendors must agree to accepting returns without question. Even with this, given the volume you can sell through Costco more than makes up for this small percentage of returns. Actually they sell more through Costco because of this return policy since people are more likely to buy a product they can return it if they are not satisfied (no questions asked).

Question Answered

Thanks for the info. Traveler. I see GPS isn't on the list(yet), but I would think it would fall under the category of computer's since in a way, that is what it is. It makes no real difference to me. That is a good policy, but in my opinion, it's pretty cheap of someone to return something months and months after the purchase. Costco is doing something right, there growing.

--
Garmin 660

I agree

Robert660 wrote:

Yup, that is why they started excluding electronics from their normal return policy because some people kept returning their laptops after a year or so to get a free upgrade.

On a different topic. I just saw an ad from CircuitCity for their Closeout price on Nuvi 660...$699.99 after a $100 instant discount! Their philosophy is on the opposite end of the spectrum from Costco (sell high to those poor souls who thinks they're getting a deal).

Except that I haven't mastered the time and space manipulation quite yet wink However, I don't go dressing up and go to ST conferences(I still maintain my sanity)

I have 15 systems running in my home in a domain 'starfleet' and all are appropiately named after federation ships (my two domain controllers are starbase2 and starbase7). My web server is in the DMZ and called Deep Space 9. My laptop that I take with me for all my travel is named USSVoyager.

Upcoming Costco Sale

Costco has advertised in their November 2007 Connection mag, a $150 off the Nuvi 650 effective 11/19/07 to 12/10/07. They don't say what the final price will be and running a search for the item number doesn't return a result yet. But considering they had the 250W for $299 long before anyone else was that close and they have the 360 for $399, I'm sure it will be a great price.

Costco has been tightening up their return policy for some consumer electronics because way too many people were returning some pretty old stuff for full credit so they could get the new stuff in it's place. However, GPS units have not been included on that restricted list that I've seen. I am a very long time Costco customer and have nothing but great things to say about them (you need to be mindful of prices just like any other discounter, but they generally have very low prices). I'll admit that I've never had the stones to return a year old electronic device to them, but I know one could… any many have.

Nuvi 350 Price

this is from the Garmin Website, I was going to get one from EBAY but i dont think so
