sounds

I am new to this and jsut installed the rest area poi.
Will i get a sound with that when I get close to a rest area or do i have to install a seperate sound file? thanks......Cy

.

You must set an alert if you want an alert to sound. You can run POI Loader in Manual Mode and set whatever alerts you want. Or you can put some alert information in the files themselves.

Regular POI files do not alert by default. As several others have mentioned, you must SET an alert. You can do so in a variety of ways.

If you run POI Loader in Manual Mode instead of Express Mode, you can set whatever alerts you wish.

Check out Phil's great guide for more information about alerts.

It is not necessary to load a Custom Alert sound. You will get the default sound.

ok i got the sound thing. Now I set the distance at 3000ft. but what do i set the speed at, i think it is at 0 miles per hour now? Thanks again....Cy

Just distance should be fine

For rest areas you probably just want a notice when you are approaching one. This is done with the proximity alert.

The POI Loader help screens do mention speed in the proximity alert section. If you have speed as part of the filename or POI name then it can calculate a distance based on that information. If you enter an alert distance manually as you have, that value is used rather than the speed calculation using the name.

If you want a SPEED alert, you must set a SPEED alert and POI Loader will set the distance based upon the speed.

When you set a PROXIMITY alert, then the speed is set at ZERO meaning that the alert will sound at ALL speeds.

Now, Phil will tell you that with GPX files, you can customize all of this within the file. wink

But for CSV files (without any other alert information) when you set the alerts manually with POI Loader, you chose proximity OR speed.

Right. You have program in the additional alert information into the file.
