How do i get my poi's to alert when i'm just passing them. They seem to alert when i route to them but not passing them. I have alerts set but they won't alert when passing within the alert range.
I think if you use POI
I think if you use POI loader, this shold be set automatically?
Ideas
I have alerts set but they won't alert when passing within the alert range.
The alerts are of the along-the-route variety; they do not trigger on a radius basis. That is, you must be on the same street or your route (if being routed) must pass by the POI, and you must be heading toward it. The POI must be very close to the street.
Would any of this explain your specific situation? Where did you get the POI file? Your scenario would occur if the POIs were too far from the street, because the route would take you all the way to the POI even if it was off the street.

If you have a Garmin gps that has mp3 you may want to look at this thread. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13904

Do I have to have an active route or just drive by in look see mode

When things are done correctly, you do NOT need to have a route set. Did you see my questions? Do any of my concerns apply?

poi alerts
Your alerts do not have to be along an active route. They should sound as you pass within proximity of any poi you have loaded.
Remember they have to be within the parameters set by the system as noted by mikeal above.

These are poi files that I created myself. I have set the proximity alert to 10 Miles. I have even used some of the poi files from this site. By the way I have loaded the same files to other nuvi products and they seem to work. This is a nuvi 650 and the only way it alerts is if I route to the poi. So what good would the red light cameras be if I had to route to each one? Thanks
Re: setting alerts...
Hi mikeal,
Just curious...
Why are you setting your proximity alerts to 10 miles???

...to look at it another way, why would you want to be told about red-light cameras that are not on your route?
