I went to update Garmin Express and it was already updated. This is odd because I don't keep it running in the background.

I also found it interesting that the choice of words says “mandatory update.” I could be wrong but I think that is a first.

According to posts at the Garmin Forums, Garmin Express release v7.28.1.0 release contains a fix for those Edge Cycling (& possibly others I'm not aware of) devices that ran into the boot loop issue with the TopoActive 2026.10 Europe maps update and a certain firmware version. The fix is a way for the device to connect to a PC, by interrupting the boot loop so that a new firmware version can be flashed to the device which will correct the issue. It's unclear whether the boot loop was caused by the firmware, the 2026.10 maps or both.

Hello, it's been a long time. I have a NUVI 2598, trying to DL map-Map update 2027.10 out using Garmin Express, Keep getting a msg to unplug and then restart install... Does anyone have a direct link? Thank you

Just got around to updating after inadvertently launching GE.

Will update soon.

Strange. Same update, months apart?
I get 2 different software packages and map update the same number as what I have loaded!!
I proceed onward using my 2689LMT.
DO First software, and it tells me needs restarting!
So I do first software update, and still reports 2 software & Map update.
Do same software again, same prompt to restart, and when done. Still 2x softwares!
Do second software update, another prompt to restart again and— You guessed it! 2 more software updates & a map!

Then told it to do map. It reloaded old version not download a new one! WHY NOT BOTH ARE SAME NUMBER!!!

When I got done an hour later, I can’t tell if either software nor new map was ever installed.
It does load and run, but I’m betting it one from 2 months or so ago. Not a new map.
DID NOT INSTALL ON WIFES 2689 LMT, it can wait for next correct update!!

Regarding my long error encountered post above.
My Wife’s 2689LMT that I DID NOT ATTEMPT the same version re-install and 2 system files.
I then used it on a long trip and it worked fine with the update from February
