REAL campgrounds

Campgrounds that DO NOT include stupid RV parks, etc. Real campgrounds. Regular campgrounds. Ones with DIRT and campfire rings and such where you can pitch a tent. Ones that DON'T have freaking lawns to camp on (NO KOA locations!).

When did "camping" come to mean staying in an air conditioned RV or pitching a tent on a manicured lawn next to the highway?

Are you talking about the way we used to camp when we were kids??? The last time I tried that the Forest Service ran us off. Because it was not a "Declared Camp Site."So we had to move to a site with a lawn next to the highway.

what poi's would you like to see on here

I found that a lot of the poi files on this site are either damaged and will not load properly or fully and...... missing many locations their file names clearly imply will be there(ex.Florida speed traps with one (1)location) . If a file states it's for a specific city, state, region or country it implies that the file is complete or nearly complete (discounting newly closed and opened locations).
I find it very nice that people will create these poi's without any compensation for themselves (if thats the case) but their seems to be a need for an easier way to produce complete and working poi's using internet map services and turn them into complete poi's. It would also be nice if the poi's that are listed could be marked as complete/ incomplete/partial according to what their names imply before they are posted.
As I am new to this experience it appears that figuring out how to make my own or fix the incomplete or broken poi's is the only way to go.
In closing I would like to point out that in my search to find out what site I could join that had the best and most complete traffic and speed zone files, finding these problems on a few sites makes me nervous about where and how to spend my money and time.

Thanks for your ear......................

TJA

PS......... IN FAIRNESS......... Even Garmin lists all Sears stores in my area but not the one open for 25 years a mile from my house.

If fairness is a priority...

The files are all maintained by people who do it for the good of us all without compensation other than the satisfaction of doing a good deed. If you notice a problem report it. What other site gives you the amount of information you find here for free if you contribute? That's the key word..YOU need to contribute.
My guess is for the most part people don't advise when they find mistakes. I for one have never found a file that wouldn't work and I have about 70 poi files downloaded on my garmin at any given time.

If fairness is a priority...

I'm happy the files that interested YOU, worked and performed as advertised for YOU..... I deleted most of the files that were problematic as originally stated and for blocking the successful loading of themselves and the following working files. In the future I will be happy to inform the group of such problems and the specific files involved and the exact message given when failure occurred. I further would like to apologize to the site for not contributing in my first two days of knowing these files even existed for GPS's.

In the future I would much prefer being guided in what I might be doing wrong or why things are the way they are with the files (I can take the criticism and the help). Your reply and innuendo of my lack of contributions was of little relevance or help but thanks for the effort.

First off...welcome to the site. You will find that this is the BEST site on the net for poi files. In all, they are in pretty good shape. Mistakes do get made. Most of the files are complete. There are those (like you have found) where a contributor makes an incomplete file and gets it put up. There are times when formatting the file that mistakes get made. There are numerous reasons why a file won't load. Those include quotes, double quotes, commas, spaces, and many more. They are made in error. In the forum here there was reference to poi loader getting more particular on the files. Poi loader might be finding those odd situations.

As I recall poi loader tells you the file and line number of the error. Take that info and sent it to the maintainer to correct the file for everyone. The same goes for missing pois (or wrong pois).
The only way we get perfect pois is by making the corrections.

As for helping, just stick around. If you find a poi you can help on or update, contact the maintainer.

If you want to make a file they are not that hard. take a look at the help files.

Have you checked out the "getting started"? http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1631

winter clean up?

Since winter time is when most of us are cooped up and have time to devote to the PC I would like to see as many existing files as possible be brought up to date, I'm in the process of cleaning up the files I maintain and wish others did the same with files that haven't been updated in years.

I’m guessing that many of the old files from 2006/2007/2008 may be orphans (maintainer does not respond), if we could indentify those files perhaps Miss POI can put them up for adoption and the new maintainer can give them new life.

So what do you say, let them be or give a new owner a chance to refresh them?

There are quite a few that need updating. There are also those that could use more complete data such as complete address's and phone numbers.
On the larger files we could collaborate with the maintainers and get them updated.

I travel for work a little and like to take the Road King for long trips through out the good weather. I downloaded the Harley Dealers for US & Canada from this site and set it up with a TourGuide Alert for the max distance of 6600 feet. So now I'm driving down the road board to death and the GPS pops up and says "HARLEY DAVIDSON DEALER AHEAD!!" Perks me up right away and I can hear V twins roaring (in my head). I drove off an exit yesterday for one and when I got in front of the store it was closed on Mondays. What a bummer.

If you have any trouble with the links already provided by another responder just search on Harley and then click the middle POI file tab.
