Sure, I can do that. (I already have a file for Ricky's, so doing another one for Humpty's would continue the theme.)

Humpty's

I just sent a file on these to poi factory.

Thank you so much!

What pois

Any POIs that members want to put together. The question is... how accurate are they going to be? Quality rather than quantity! I`m appreciative for all these files because I am relying on some of them to take across some states. I am looking for files (Rest areas. restaurants. gas stations, hotels and some interesting POIs along the way)to use this summer on my way to Florida going along I75.

Rest areas POI

One of the most popular, usually in the top 3 for downloads.

Try these for starters - These have been a staple addition in my GPSr for a couple of years and can vouch for the accuracy.

Only what is essential

That is what is not already on a GPS such as Garmin City Navigator.

Most of the POI is redundant with City Navigator and what can be had with a smartphone.

The Amish haven't really changed much since the 1800s, so I'm sure any POIs related to them should still be the same....

Updated POI's

I would like to see some of the POI's we use (in the Chicagoland area) updated as they are way out of date with new locations being opened all the time.

XM Sirius Terrestrial Towers

Although many people recognize that XM Sirius is satellite radio, they also have some terrestrial towers to hel fill in areas of poor signal strength, like tunnels, underground parking, etc. I would like to see a list like this. I don't think it would be too large, since there are probably just a few sites at best in larger metropolitan areas.

WHAT POIs Would You Like to See Here?

I sure would like POIs for Veterinarians and Vet Hospitals. Those of us with RVs who fly the road a lot usually have dogs. We travel with 7, and finding yellow pages is pretty difficult these days. Just got the Garmin 2595LMT and could sure use Veterinarian POIs.

Easy

On your 2595 tap Where To? then tap Point Of Interest then tap Spell Name and finally type Animal and you will see all the vets and animal hospitals around your loaction with the word animal in their business name.

Update to covered bridges POI

I would like to see an update to the covered bridge POIs. On some of our tirps, the GPS would alert us, but when we got to the bridge location, there would either be nothing there, or pilings where the bridge used to be.

A lot of the covered bridges in Easter NY and VT got destroyed in the flooding last year so there may be lots to update. Not sure how many will be rebuilt. Many were destroyed beyond repair so they would be modern replacements if they are replaced.

I would like to see a update to the covered bridge file! I had to edit the file I downloades, and removed about 230 bridges because they no longer exist.

I Have Two Types Of POIs That I Recently Thought Of

The first one is mailboxes for mailing a letter. I don't know if the locations are availble on the USPS website, but it seems like when I want to mail a letter and I am away from home, it can be difficult finding a United States Postal Service drop box.

The other one is going to be for a very small part of most GPS users. I think it could be handy to have the POIs for every fire hydrant in the United States documented. That way fire service could have them in their GPSs and determine the closest hydrant when at a fire scene.

There is this project already, however. I guess it is the same folks that did payphones.

That sounds like a huge undertaking. Perhaps Google can outfit an army of dogs to collect the data.... wink

the firemen already have that data

Almost all fire engines are equipped with a mobile data terminal that doubles as a large screen GPS. The database they use for addresses and such is taken from things like the MSAG (Master Street Address Guide) put together by the local authorities so they know the exact coordinates of every address, the centerline of every street, alley and road and of course where all the utilities are located along with shutoff valves or switches. That information is sent as part of the CAD (Computer-aided dispatch) message along with the alarm.
