POI Verifier

A forum member here used to maintain a program called POI Verifier. As far as I know, the program is unfortunately defunct. I don't know of any alternatives. If anyone does, however, please let us know.

Up To The File Maintainer

There is not a defined "process" per se. Its up to each individual file creator/maintainer how they create their own files and the level of location accuracy they want. I think its fair to say that most of us are pretty demanding of ourselves and strive to put out the most accurate data we possibly can.

Also, other members here at "The Factory" post errors, corrections and tweaks to the POI files as they are found. The corrections are then rolled into the file by the maintainer.

speed traps!!

Hey all,

Does anyone know if there is a speed trap poi on here anywhere? Thanks so much!

Speed Traps

Depends on where you live. Put "Speed Trap" in the Search box, and when the results come up, click the "POI Files" tab. There are several listed for different areas.

Historic Roadside Signs

I'd like to see the locatoins and language on all of those historic roadside signs that I can't read as I'm riding by.

Truckstops of America (T/A) would be nice

Adding a POI for nationwide Truckstops of America (T/A) would be really nice...

They have everything from ATMs to wireless connectivity in their parking lots...plus plenty of parking for RVs. Anyone know how to get such a list???

Truckstops of America (T/A) would be nice

Great! Thanks for the link! I looked under TA, T/A and my classic favorite from 1979, TRUCKSTOPS OF AMERICA...(I see I am old, and do not keep up with corporate name changes...wonder if they still call the truck washes 'Blue Lanterns'?)

Thanks again!

HARD ONE to find - Key Bank Branches AND ATMs

I hate to admit I bank with them...and they treat their Branch and ATM lists like Beyond Top Secret data...I have asked them for a CSV file a dozen times...and they always go into third-degree on WHY...

Explaining that you RV into other states MUST sound like you are a terrorist to their paranoid minds...

Anyway...does ANYONE happen to have the POI for Key Bank Branches AND their ATMs? Nationwide preferable...and I understand that they actually have about 1033 Branches and ATMs combined...nationwide.

Thanks before-hand!

With prices so high, perhaps POI's of public and private (fee) gold panning locations?

RE: Data Accuracy

Yeah...several times, I have downloaded files that there are enough discrepancies (like a Wyoming store showing up in Maine) that I just scrapped using the data. It is one thing to correct one entry...but when you start seeing sites in rivers, wrong states, the ocean...best to drop it.

Some of that is user-conversions of DMS to decimal...or being tired at night and hand-keying the data....(been there, done that!)

Old Devildogs

Hey bobkz!

No cardplaying here...active duty...3rd MarDiv. Oki, Hawaii, Lejeune (2nd Div...then), and a few other exotic armpits.

Last station (and EAS) was C1/12...KMCAS (now KMCB...or something like that, after they shut down Barber's Point and moved it to Kaneohe). Used to love fishing for Hammerhead sharks off the pier over by the Airwing hangars.

Dog Friendly places

I am mostly interested in dog friendly places like stores, malls, etc. NOT dog parks, although dog parks USA would be nice.

I think this site http://www.doggieswelcome.com/
has some info... but no POI file.
This site some more http://www.petfriendlytravel.com/?page=malls#Wisconsin

While I am at it smile, dog friendly hotels would be great as well.

In short anything dog (besides your run of the mill dog stores like PetSmart, Petco...) would be great

Would love to have one for USA, if not then central states (IL,WI..)

Hockey Rinks

I'd like to see hockey rinks for Ohio. And if I can take it one step further, the rinks for PA, MI and IN as well.

We're a travel hockey family. I just got my TomTom stolen from my truck and I'm starting over with a brand new Garmin. I'm disappointed that hockey rinks aren't included in the POI for Garmin, like they were on the TomTom.

::::sigh:::: This feels like a lot of work.
Thank you for all you do!

I would like to see Dodge Dealerships added.

I would appreciate if there was a way to see where the Dodge Dealerships are. Also I woul like to know where all of the Love's Travel Centers are.

Golf course green locations

I have recently taken up golf, and enjoy using my GPS unit to determine the distance to the next hole. I have all the hole locations for a few local courses (created by using Google Earth), but I would like to find others, especially for when I travel.

Fuelperks (5, 10, 15, or more cents/gallon discounts)

New to my area, Fuelperks appears to be a program that uses merchant "Customer Affinity" cards to build value toward discounts on fuel purchased from gas stations affiliated with the program. A quick check of the Fuelperks.com web site shows regional retailers (like grocery stores) and specific (but not all) gas stations tied to a specific gasoline brand are partnered within that region of the country.

It also appears there will be some nationwide and online retailers who will soon be participating, too.

It's the subset of a specific brand's gas stations currently participating that a Fuelperks-Redeem POI file would be most helpful to have. Second to that, a Fuelperks-Earn POI file might be especially handy for travelers visiting an area with Fuelperks affiliated merchants outside of their familiar home areas.

There are a couple of wi-fi POI files here already, but may I suggest a source for what could be the mother of all wi-fi POI files? I've used this site in the past http://v4.jiwire.com/search-hotspot-locations.htm with good success.

A BMW auto dealership list - no bikes

Reasonable request

A BMW auto dealership list - no bikes

cocati asks a reasonable question as the BMW dealership POI files are limited. I wondered what the BMW web site would do for us and so looked at

http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/dealer/default.aspx?e...

I selected Wisconsin for cocati (although if he is like me and is planning a trip, he wants dealers along his route)

Here is what I found. No i know that I could go to several places and enter the addresses, get the coordinates, etc. What I was wondering if anyone else knew how to feed addresses into some program and have them geocoded.
