Rest Areas with restrooms

As a result of all of the discussions regarding Rest Rooms, It was decided to in addition to the combined file which includes ALL locations, there would also be a file available for download that consisted of only those locations that have restrooms.
Users that want the total listing should download the Combined file. Users that only want the locations with restrooms, should download the Rest Areas with restrooms file.

Both files were configured for users to be able to sort on just about anything from State to the kitchen sink, Oh wait, I didn't include the Kitchen sink. Uers that wish to have this option must be ready to take over the file. As stated previously, I probably can be persuaded.

Thanks

Sense of humor

When it comes to this file, I have to keep reminding myself not to get to upset.

Obsessive about the commode!

charlesd45 wrote:

...How about the commode?

Some people can be really obsessive about the commode!

True story -

At an office building, I was supervising a plumber fixing leaks from all 7 commodes in a ladies' room. Everyone had been emailed and a sign posted that the bathroom would be closed for repairs, and the location of an alternate.

We were already deep into the work. The commodes had been removed and placed across the room in a row while the plumber worked on the waste piping. The bathroom was like a bomb hit, with water and pipe wrenches everywhere, and the odor!

A woman entered saying, "I have to go NOW!" I gestured toward the row of commodes and said, "You can sit but you can't do anything," and she stormed out of the room. (Oops - I thought this was the Joke Thread!)

This was the high point of all my experiences about how obsessive people are regarding the commode. It is no surprise to me that it would be an absolute catastrophe to arrive at a Rest Area with no commodes!

thanks mahoney

I was happy to use the original file, but now that we have a choice, I will be making use of the new file, "Rest Areas with Rest Rooms".

Thanks for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Minor fix

Here's a minor correction; it applies to both files as these locations have restrooms.

TX, US-287, NB, Hardeman County Rest Area
TX, US-287, SB, Hardeman County Rest Area
and
TX, US-287, NB, Wise County Rest Area
TX, US-287, SB, Wise County Rest Area

The geocoded locations are good, the names are reversed. Wise should be Hardeman, etc.

Thanks TXRVer. Sorrry for taking so long to respond. Had to have prostate surgery last thursday and I haven't snapped back as quick as I thought I would.

Restrooms?!?!?

Maybe we can create another subcatagory...no restoroom but wooded area adjacent to parking smile

Appreciate this file..

I was recently in California and was flabbergasted by how a huge state lacks in the rest area dept.

I hope everything...

...came out OK. (No pun intended.) From what I've seen, it normally takes a few weeks to get back to a somewhat normal life.

Thanks Mahoney

Recently had to travel to Eden Prairie, MN to pickup our very pregnant daughter and bring her home to Pittsburgh, PA (900 miles) for a week visit ... and then take her back home a week later. I kept the Rest Area file up most of the time she was with me via search along route, ready for her next "I NEED A BATHROOM NOW!"

Really ... Thank you for all your work! It was well used on these 2 legs. No problem understanding where there was a RR.

P.S. - The 2 legs without her were non-stop except for 1 gas stop in the Chicago suburbs. lol

and glad that the file helped in those cases.

Commode,

I assumed that all the locations in the file have one of those or at least a hole to sit over. If I am missing something?????

Poison ivy free

that may not be a bad idea. After the surgery last week, I don't want to get near anything that would cause more discomfort.

good luck to you as well

I had that done almost 17 years ago and hope that you do as well as I have.

My surgery

did not consist of removal of the prostate. I had the laser procedure followed by removal of part of the prostate with surgery also known at "roto rooter". At this time I do not have any indication of cancer. Thanks for your comforting words.

Starting in my 50's, I've had to have several TURP procedures for an enlarged prostate. No cancer, it just re-grows. The last one in 2012 was harder to recover from. My surgeon says it usually last for 10 years. I hate catheters. wink

Feel better soon, mahoney!

I had prostate cancer about 10 years ago had what they call breakey theraphy, done with radiation. Mine was confined within the prostate. Never had a problem since. It does take time to recover but well worth it.

Catheters

I didn't have any use for them before last week, I definitely don't want to have to use one again. Extremely uncomfortable. It appears to be getting better a little each day.

My problem

has shown that I am definitely not alone when it comes to prostate problems. Based on some of the responses that I have received, I consider my self lucky, just an enlarged prostate and not cancer thank God.
Not bad for being 80 years young.

Misplaced inputs.

I have misplaced or lost inputs on these files. I received them prior to having my surgery and have not been able to locate them. Will the member that submitted them please look at the latest files and if necessary please resend them to me. I sincerely apologize for losing them.

Apparently sending this information to you via your contact page isn't working, for whatever reason. So I'm posting it here.

The following errors all occur when column C data is separated into individual columns in a spreadsheet. Obviously if these are intentional, feel free to ignore.

Missing comma between "WB" and "PARKING/PICNIC AREA". The end result is deleting the direction of travel (WB) deletes the rest area name as well, leaving only the mile marker as the rest area name.

*****

Column C, MM listing

As I was compiling and updating the listing, I almost decided to just delete the MM data, however, since a lot of the data existed, I left this data in the file and added to it when I could determine the MM. I didn't thoroughly check the data that showed up in the MM breakout listing. Thanks for the corrections.

I like the MM data...

MM Listing

Happy that I didn't delete that part of the data. I just hope that members help fill in the blanks for the locations that don't have any numbers. Very difficult trying to use google earth to obtain them.

Mahoney

It's a PITA but using both Google and BaseCamp you can usually pick out an exit nearby that could provide a clue as to the approximate mile marker for the exit.

--
Illiterate? Write for free help.

PITA

and you are correct. I have most of the MM listed for the interstate highways, but what is missing are the MM for the US and State routes and they don't list exits on many of these. The only way to obtain these is by members recording them as they travel.

and many times

mileage markers are missing from the roadside on these "secondary" routes.

Duh!!! It helps if one adds a proximity alert

I diligently downloaded Rest Areas with Rest Rooms prior to a trip to Myrtle Beach. I diligently converted it to gpx. I then diligently loaded to my NUVI2555LMT and was happy that the wav file was being converted.

It was only after, I got to the second rest area, with no alert, that I realized I wasn't diligent enough. I forgot to do a Replace All on the Proximity field in EPE and actually put in a proximity alert.

Duh!!!!

Fortunately, the rest areas have good signage, but I do miss the voice saying "Rest Area Ahead".

Next time I will be extra diligent. Sorry Mahoney. You did your best, and I let you down.

I forgot to turn on the sound and realized it only after the second time I realized that I had missed the entrance because I had been depending upon the audio alert that was turned off. sad

How to submit corrections to POIs

Sorry folks, but I'm new to this site. Is there a tutorial or discussion on the procedure for updating POIs. I downloaded the US Rest Areas Combined (4/6/16) loaded it to Garmin, and used it on a trip last week. I happened to notice the below two areas marked closed, were actually open. What is the protocol for updating these? Should I update the .csv and upload it, or is there some one in the group whom does these updates.
Sorry for the lack of understanding. I really like this service

Rest Areas with restrooms USA

Just downloaded. Thanks Mahoney!

dobs108 smile

Downloaded

Thanks, you are certainly welcome.

Very funny

At a place that I was working (the name will not be mentioned for a reason that will be evident)
The bathrooms on all the floors were right over each other and next to each other for plumbing reasons. There was a supply closet in each that was equipped with a low pressure air line with a ring on the end that fir into the toilet.
If there was a jam, the building maintenance man would just stick the line in and hit the button and the low air would clear it.
One day there was a jam in the men's room and when he grabbed the wrong hose, (this hose had house pressure 125 psi) when he hit the switch it blew the clog and backed up in the ladies room next door. All he heard was a scream from there. Some poor woman was using the toilet, and it back flushed and damn near drowned her. He ran like hell away and didn't answer the office phone for a while.
Needless to say the woman was very happy.
