Garmin Golflogix

This may be a little off basic subject matter but....... it is a GPS.
Has anyone owned and used the Garmin GolfLogix? The reviews have been good but I am interested in the annual fee for downloading different golf courses. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Chuck

Sorry, I don't know but

Sorry, I don't know but perhaps someone here does. Just didn't want you to think that we didn't care

I don't know "exact"

I don't know "exact" details, but as a golfer, I've used many of these devices at various courses. Most of them are usually cart-based, and use a 2 unit differential approach for accuracy. By that, I mean there's a unit in the cart getting readings, and a unit at the clubhouse getting readings. Since the clubhouse is a "known" location, the unit in the cart can have a skew applied that makes it VERY accurate.

The GolfLogix unit is based on the eTrex, and while it's a good receiver, a singe GPS will always have the potential for inaccuracies. Garmins website says, "Garmin® GPS receivers are accurate to within 15 meters on average". That's 16+ yards, and will invariably be at it's worst when you need it the most. In fact, I found it peculiar that there was no mention of accuracy at the GolfLogix FAQ page. Obviously, where they excel is in providing you with maps, yardages, green layouts, and other course info.

I have an eTrex, among other GPS's, and have used mine for "golf". I went to Google Maps and got Lat/Lon's for key points on my local course. I then put those in as waypoints. Now I don't get course maps on the screen, but I have the scorecard for that. And I'm able to use my eTrex to get distances in feet to points I'm interested in. I convert that to yards, and figure my 15 handicap doesn't need much more accuracy than that smile

Thanks for sharing.

There seems to be a lot of these and similar units on the golf courses today.
I have also used the cart version and they seemed to work well. I just wondered how the hand held models worked. Thanks for the input.
