Comprehensive reference

I've been enjoying discussions on this forum, but I have a few questions.
- A lot of capabilities don't seem to be documented. Much as I enjoy the forum, isn't there some comprehensive documentation available that explains all the functions that are available on my 750?
- Is there an SDK (software development kit) that exposes the hooks into the various functions, and allows new ones to be added?
- I am about to experiment with how to transfer my phone list onto the 750, but I'm not sure the best approach. Has anyone done this? I'd just like name, phone number, and a note field.

Thanks for any help.

Great to Have You

Hi,

Do not understand why you would want to transfer phone list to your 750. The Nuvi 760 has Bluetooth that automatically puts your phone list on your 760 when it is paired with a Bluetooth phone.

Have a great evening.

Ray, you start off talking about his 750 and then talk about the 760 having BT -- 750 does not have BT.

Thanks Ray, but you must

Thanks Ray, but you must have a better memory than I do! I just want to be able to manually lookup a number, even if I dial it manually on my cell. I have a 750, not a 760 so no bluetooth.

Garmin keeps their software and OS very close to the vest. There's no SDK and for the most part, no hacks.

But as the previous poster indicated, if your phone is compatible, the phone book will transfer. (or you might have to "force" the transfer from the phone with some smartphones). You can't customize what gets sent or how it's displayed. What issue are you having?

Edited to add after the others posted: You will have to create a Custom POI file or Favorites for your phonebook if you want it on your GPS unit and the unit doesn't have Bluetooth. There's no other place on the unit for the phone book to be stored.

Phone List

You could save your phone list as a POI and load that into the device. However, it wants a lat/long with the POIs so it can find them in order of distance from where you are. Leaving them all with 0/0 for lat/long would show them all in the middle of the ocean (south of Ghana), but at least they would all be the same distance away...

Maybe a paper copy in the car would work better.

Thanks MM

I have LOTS of phone numbers and I keep a complete list with various notes in my pocket on a thumb drive. That works if I'm near a computer, but sometimes I just want a quick number I seldom use that isn't on my cell.

Hard to believe someone doesn't have hooks and even a cross compiler to play with, etc. So many geek boys (and girls) out there and such a tempting little machine.

Paper, what's paper?

If you can put the numbers in a CSV file, you can create a Custom POI file out of them. You can put real coordinates in there or you can "fake" the coordinates with a point out in the ocean.

long, lat, name, comment (you can put the phone number here)
repeat as needed

Or you could just program them into your cell phone which might be a quicker reference.
