Garmin talk

I am new here. I have the Garmin Nuvi 660.

One of my pet peeves with this unit is that the 2d arrow vehicle appears to be past your current location on the map, as the pivot point for that vehicle is a little past the centre of the triangle. It makes it look like you past an interesection as you arrive at it. The effect is worse the furthur you zoom out.

I have had a Garmin StreetPilot 2730 for over a year now. My mother-in-law just picked up a Garmin C330, but I haven't seen it. They are going to stop in some day and want me to customize it for them. I have a number of POI files that I will try to load up for them with the PoiLoader. I also will try to help them with Favorites that they can create.

After all the anticipation, the performance is worse than the 660 that I returned.

First off, I went through the 4.20 update and the MSN Direct activation setup. More on that later…

A while back, I took a business trip up to Nova Scotia with my wife's Street Pilot 2720 because I wanted to play with something different for a while and that's the only other thing with a female voice I'm allowed to play with. But hey, both of our GPSrs are Aussie Karen, so it's not really cheating, right?

Hello all. I am a new registered user to POI Factory. I am also a owner of a new Nuvi 660 (thanks to Best Buy and their Black Friday deal).

Couple of questions, I have searched and came up empty so far.

First, how long does it take to fully charge the Nuvi 660?

Second, what is the largest SD memory card I can use?

No, not that kind.

I've been reading a lot of the older threads and I haven't once seen anywhere what kind of hardware you use. What types of GPSrs do you and your husband use and enjoy. Likes, dislikes? Since this seems to be a tight community, we need to know more about the GPS Goddess...

Does anyone know a list of preloaded POIs that come on a new Garmin. I am purchasing one for my wife. It will be our first one. I am looking at the C330 just do to its price. I only need the Custom POI if the preloaded ones don't include stores and gas stations around town and the outlying areas. I mean the major ones, like walmart, starbucks, food-lion, Wilco, etc.

I'm trying to decide which to keep. I have read a lot of info and talked to garmin a few times. But I'm hoping you guys can help me fill in the gaps.

I have a c330 and I'm trying to get it to alert me of Rest Areas on my route. I downloaded a rest area .csv file and a rest area .mp3 file. Example: Rest Area.mp3 and Rest Area.csv but when approaching a rest area, the mp3 does not play. I can get a proximity alert when using Manual mode in POI loader and setting a distance, but I can not get an mp3 alert. Does the c330 support mp3 playback?

Just recently purchased a c550 - and I've downloaded some of the POI bitmaps to my computer. I've fired up the Garmin POI loader, and when I select the folder with the icons it tells me there are no data files in that directory, that I need a CSV or GPX file.

I previously had nuvi 350. Then gave it to parents. Bought navigon 2100T. the traffic feature was nice and all, but i didn't find it useful. Ended up buying myself another nuvi 350. It's nice a compact unlike the 650. I don't look at screen enough to appreciate large size. The tts and routing features on nuvi are way better.

I just bought my Garmin C330 for $128 at Walmart (on Black Friday). From what I have been reading from this great site, the maps are outdated. I sent an email and within a day they told me I would be getting my updated maps in the mail within a month or so.

Does anyone know anything positive or negative about the Garmin 200 W? I want to take advantage of POI's and according to the literature the Garmin 200W has a slot for SD card. I want to buy it for my wife who gets lost going around the block sometimes. She laughs about it but I get concerned when she has to go to any unfamiliar places by herself.

Does anyone have an email address or link where I can report software issues to Garmin? Or would it just be the COntact Support page?

My 750 is still having the problem finding POI's near my destination. Instead it gives me POI's near one of the locations listed in my favorites.

Does Garmin make a permanently installed after market in dash GPS unit? Never seen or heard of one.

On my 660, if I click Where To, Food Lodging, Hospitals, every hospital is listed twice. If I click on each, they have the same city & phone number. At first I thought one could be for emergency room or something like that, other for main hospital. Don't think that's what's going on. I'm in the Los Angeles area, latest firmware & maps.

I got a few of them from a few digital cameras, still were in the wrapper. Turns out the nuvi 660 handles POI files very well from interchangable SD chips. I've experimented putting important data such as local red-light camera POI files directly in the nuvi ram and larger POI files I don't use often on a SD chip. You can have a lot of POI's on 16MB.

Waiting to get my nuvi350 today and have been reading specs and all the comments(very helpful and informative). There's one thing either I missed or haven't read yet. Does the 350 auto zoom map when it comes to a directional change. I have an older garmin gpsV and it dose the auto zoom, very helpful seeing up close what to do.

Got an email from a tech that said the running rumor at Garmin for the name "Nüvi" came from blending the words New and Navigation, then it became Newvigation, then Nuvigation and condensed to Nüvi. He wasn't sure what the double dots over the U were supposed to mean.

I can see, from all the posts I've read here and on other forums, that there are a lot of Garmin owners that have issues with what appear to be software features.

I've been wondering if anyone has some "inside" information as to whether Garmin might actually implement a software upgrade based on the large numbers of requests/complaints?
