I have been using Garmin Nuvi 255W for last 2 days and so far fairly happy with it. TTS sounds little robotic sounding but I can live with it. I have heard that you can set proximity alerts on this unit that will alert you when you are approaching school zone, traffic cameras and red light cameras etc...

not sure how many models support this, but does anyone use this?

and if so, can you pass along any tips as to how it might be useful?

other than annotating some help for someone by including what appears on screen during one step or another, I don't know when I would use it.

and does it revert to disabled after each use, or each power on?

Yesterday I was traveling up the Jersey coastline on RT 47. At my home i says the elavation is 100 some feet. When we were going up the coastline at random times I would tap Where am I and a few times it said i was negative 50 or lower. Anyone know about this??

Has anyone tried Garmin Locate? I am not sure how to enable or use this feature. Do you need to keep your Nuvi "on" when you are in a mall or somewhere?

I have noticed FM Tranmitter on Nuvi 760 is very week. Did anyone try it on Nuvi 765T? is it better on 765T or it is same?

Questions regarding SD card.

#1: What data can/should/should-not be stored to the SD card?

#2: When writing to the SD card, does the card need to be in the GPS or does it need to be in a card reader?

#3: Will data on the card be automatically read by the GPS?

part of the reason I bought the 765T, was the ability to create custom POI's, especially utilizing the radius alert feature of the TourGuide alert.

anyone here have a new 765T?

or perhaps experienced your nuvi rebooting itself while in operation in the cradle while driving?

mine has done it three times, in the little over three weeks that I have owned it, though not within the last week.

and I am not referring to it rebooting following an update of any kind while attached to my PC with the USB cable...this happened while driving.

Newer versions of Garmin POI Loader (v 2.4.0 or higher) have an option to uninstall all custom POI's from your GPS.

After selecting your GPS device, look for this option on the page that follows:

Remove all previously installed custom POI's from your device

Using this feature does not remove the built-in POIs that were pre-installed on your GPS.

I've looked everywhere, but don't see anything about storing additional vehicle files on an SD card. Do vehicle files have to be stored in internal storage?

This was my first 'time zone' trip and I was a little surprised at my Nuvi 200. I went from Georgia to TN and expected the Nuvi to change the time back an hour, but it did not. Is this normal? Cell phones change, so why didn't the gps?

Is a speed camera always on and only snaps a photo of the approaching car's front or back license plate when the driver exceeds 5% of the speed limit? How are away does the camera take a photo?

Well It had to happen sometime. We finally broke down and bought a nuvi 5000 on a Black Friday sale. It ws originally 625.00 and it was 400.00 I beleive. My question is Is the FM traffic receiver worth its due

I bought Nuvi 760 from Costco Canada today but when I tried to enable Traffic updates, I got the message to enter FM Traffic reciver id on www.garmin.com/fmtraffic to get code to enable it.

But when I go to Garmin web site, it is asking me to purchase lifetime subscription.

How do I activate free 3 months subscription?

I have only had my Garmin nuvi for a few days, but it seems that when it is on vehicle power, it never powers down. I had a Magellan that could sense inactivity (that it was not moving) and would power down after 20 minutes. Is there a way to configure the Garmin in a similar manner?

Radio Shack had a great price on the 250W on Black Friday and I picked one up. Have had SP III and 2610 in the past. First impression, nice graphics, nice to have 2009 map and POI download capability. Functionality is nowhere near as good as 2610 but it only cost me 1/4 of what I paid for the 2610. Only had it one day, we'll see how it goes.
