nuvi 765t / 265wt power cable

Does anyone know why the power/traffic cables for the nuvi 765t and the nuvi 265t are so different?

I have the 765t, and bought a 265wt as a gift ... I was surprised when the cable wasn't the same - they both use the same traffic service.

The Garmin website doesn't have either listed in the accessories section!

the 265 uses a mini USB connector

The 765 power cable is the style that plugs into the cradle that the unit snaps in and out of while the 265 uses a mini USB connector that plugs directly into the unit.

I understand that ... I am curious as to why they made them different - they perform the same functions (power & FM Traffic).

built-in v. external traffic receiver

The 265 has the traffic receiver built in, so the power cable only has to do that -- power.

The 765t uses the older receiver on the end of the wire GTM 20 receiver, needing more wires to feed the main unit.

that sounds like a good, and very reasonable explaination.

however ... the 2x5 manual shows the power cable and points to "internal antenna" within the cable? (pg25)

additionally, isn't the 7x5 series supposed to be the latest and greatest?? why would they use the "old style" on the 7 series but not the 2 series?

Reciver plug on power cable

When you look on the Garmin page for the Nuv 765t it shows the following receiver needed.
GTM 10 GTM 12 GTM 20 GTM 21 GTM 25

It shows the same receivers for the 265wt .Look on the plug and see which one has what number. My 265wt has the GTM 25.That may account for why they look different.
