Garmin talk

I picked up a used Street Pilot III with City Navigator V4.01 and V5 update CD at a flea market and a bunch of extras came with it. I plan to use it with APRS. Maps are to old for navigation.

I called Garmin to transfer the unit and codes to my name. I had to wait a week for them to contact the other person but its now in my name.

GE had an update to the software on my Dezl 560 today. I did not get the update text.

When I first got my 2797 somehow I thought that I needed Smartlink to use the Bluetooth on the GPS. At least that is the interpretation I got from the info the 2797 spewed forth.

Well I have an iPhone but strictly on a Pay-as-you-go plan, no data plan. Therefore I do not need Smartlink nor neither can I use it.

Any ideas how to remove it from my 2797?

This website has some interesting tips etc for Garmin users. Admittedly not exactly for the newest Garmin's but I would think many of the tips are still applicable to many Garmin's in use now.

What am I doing wrong? trying to updated to mapupdateto 2016. Have the latest Garmin Express 4.0.20. Express is telling me that it can't install to device, nuvi 2557, have to use Mapinstall. Go to mapinstall and 2016 is not shown. I hope I've given enough info that some one out there can help?

Trying to update my Nuvi 2598 and keep getting a message that says "There was an error installing the update". I'm using Garmin Express 4.1.5.0.
Ideas?

One of the great features of Garmin BaseCamp was the ability to see the POI or route in Google Earth, however with latest updates of GE and GE Pro, this will no longer work with BaseCamp.

Google Earth has discontinued support for BaseCamp.

Older versions of Google Earth still work, however the next time you open Google Earth the newer version has updated automatically.

Using 2797 with GMT 36 Traffic Receiver USB cable that came with the unit. I'm now getting the "use the supplied cable" message though I am using that cable. The unit won't charge. I'm wondering which part is bad (2797 unit, small mount unit with USB connection that plugs into the back of the 2797, or the GMT 36 USB/cigarette lighter cable).

I recall that Here updated its maps weeks before Garmin released 2016.1 (if not a couple months). I checked today on my iPhone, and Here just had another update to its map software.

I have a unit with the HD traffic feature. If I also purchase the Live Traffic subscription, how does the unit deal with the two sources? Does it combine them? Does it give priority to one over the other? Do I have to turn one off and select the other?
From reading posts on the subject, it sounds like there is advantages to having both.

I had previously owned a 1490LMT but recently purchased a RV 760LMT for traveling in an RV. In the past, when I performed a map update, I would retain the previous map so if I had issues then I just select the previous map on the device. This was easy with the 1490 as I would change the three files (*.img, *.gma, *.unl) to something like "gmapsupp" and then install the new maps.

I Updated My Garmin SP 2720 With 2016.10 and now it won't turn back on the gps just keeps rebooting the red line bar at the bottom of the screen loads half way then starts over and over anyone have idea whats wrong

I have two Garmin devices with CN Europe NT maps:
- nuvi 775 came preloaded with both NA and EU maps.
- nuvi 3790T came preloaded with NA map. I bought the EU map on DVD and installed it on a micro SD card.
I purchased Lifetime Mapupdates for both devices and maps.

For many years I have updated the maps and used these devices in Europe successfuly.

I installed the 2016.10 maps earlier today on my 3590LMT using GE with no difficulty. I then decided to make a copy of the system and JCV files to a backup flash drive using Windows Explorer like I always do. The file transfer would start out fine and after about 30 seconds, I was getting "file not found" error messages and Windows Explorer then showed that EVERY file in my 3590 was gone.

Took my 2797 out for a run today. So far I'm very happy with the new map. I even have to admit I kinda like the split screen vs the full screen JCV. It kicked in where I've never seen it do so.

Aside from showing outdated POI stores, gas stations and restaurants, the actual map is getting better every time.

New Garmin Express V 4.1.5.0 is just out today.
