Here

It makes me wonder if Garmin has refreshed its agreement for Here maps with the BMW, Audi and Daimler group and is feeling more assured about map updates.

Interesting

Very interesting indeed...

well...

I'll stick to my own Garmin update schedule of around once a year. But it is interesting that they would have the manifest up so quickly after the last update.

If have actually been a member here for quite some time, but I have really never quite understood this phenomenon. It seems like we get giddy like schoolgirls when we hear about new maps coming out. Don't get me wrong, I update when they are available, but it really just doesn't excite me that much. What am I missing here? Is it that we are so bored with no new GPS devices or features that we get excited about new maps?

And, just so everybody knows, I am not trying to start a flame war or insult anybody. I am simply wondering why so many of us make so many posts about it.

Jim.....

See, the deal is the freakin' lot of us have so little to do, the mere possibility of a release of a new map just becomes so much more fun than watching paint dry which I gotta tell ya' runs a very close second in causing to get all hot and bothered about a new map update!

Me, I've graduated from watching paint dry to watching the color of the carpet change on the floor where the sun hits it. I'm now placing bets in Las Vegas to see if this Damn house will burn down before the carpet looses all of its color. razz

Scheduled date

More than likely there is a set schedule for releases somewhere in the corporate vaults that they try to adhere to. The last one was delayed, but that won't delay the date for the next "Scheduled" release.

Gives us something to wonder and comment about though.

Here in Verizon territory we do not get white pages any longer. Haven't for several years now. We do get yellow pages from various publishers besides Verizon but white pages are history. Considering the book was getting tinier every year, I suspect it would have been a pamphlet before too long.

Ah, the memories, Sears & Roebuck catalogs. We didn't have telephones at the time but when the new catalog arrived, the old one was always placed in the outhouse, along with old magazines. Toilet paper was too expensive plus it didn't provide reading pleasure while waiting for nature to take its course.

No White Pages

We have Frontier and similar results.

I used to check my listing to see if it was correct, now there are no residential listings to check.

I get two yellow pages a year...

I get two yellow pages a year from different publishers and they both go in the trash. Both of them get thinner each year.

I had doubts when I heard about this site but gave it a try back when I was getting three sets of books a year, Dex and two other upstarts—and I now get about one book a year. It may be worth a shot for you folks as well.

Probably the same thing that makes an Apple enthusiast wait in line at an Apple store for hours when a new iPhone comes out ... or the same as a Windows user that installs Windows 10 the minute it is available. Human behavior can be a mystery! laugh out loud

Garmin CIty Navigator NA 2016.20 Manifest Has Been Uploaded

Thanks for the information

@ jonny5

Before Garmin releases a new map for download they go through various steps and one of them is uploading the manifest onto their servers. In the past it was possible to predict the release date when knowing when the manifest was uploaded and with a bit of luck smile

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42023?page=0#comment-354739

Garmin2597Guy was the first one to give us the scoop that Garmin would now be offering three updates per year. (See 2nd post http://www.poi-factory.com/node/44615?page=9

All that being said I was VERY surprised when I noticed that the 2016.20 manifest had been uploaded just a little over a month after the 2016.10 release.

I perceived this as being odd on Garmin's part and wanted to know other members thoughts on the matter. I know that I'm not the only one interested as two other GPS websites reported my findings to their members following my post.

As you can see I'm interested and enjoy the various facets evolving around my GPS hobby.

Cheers

Actually, I'm more than convinced that God, himself, hasn't the foggiest let alone a clue what Garmin is going to do next!

What prompts a person to notice ?

Boredom, interest or a little of both.

If God is waiting for a Garmin map update....

we're in more trouble than I thought.
