How to make custom vehicle icons

The SRF builder uses 400x400 images for the 3D shots and 350x350 for the 2D. It then shrinks the whole thing from there to the required strips of 80x80 and 70x70. I didn't think about having it use the smaller pics....

One question on the SRF builder. Is it possible to just use one static image to create the icon? What I'm thinking of is creating an icon using a picture of my face. But I don't need it to rotate so I was wondering if I could just point the program to one image and tell it to repeat that image for all 36 angles.

Yep, you can do that... Because the builder looks for 36 images, you'll have to make 35 copies of the original though. I was trying to automate the process of piecing everything together and that's why it needs to see all 36 images.

I have this working on my Nokia E71. Take your memory card, and copy the .srf files you want to the \Garmin\Vehicle directory. You'll be able to change vehicles in the settings. I have a MINI,a small boat (for navigation using Garmin Bluecharts) and some icons that are good for walking, all loaded up. They work fine.

I have had my Garmin StreetPilot 2730 for quite a while now and I experimented with .BMP files. Now I have a Garmin Nuvi 500 and I am interested in a couple of custom vehicle icons. I am most interested in a horse and ATV icon. Does anybody know if there are some already out there or should learn how to do it myself and create some custom vehicle icons? Also, are there any custom vehicle icon files ctored on this site or are they stored elsewhere? I tried searching, but I am away from home right now on a slow 1 x RTT wireless connection and searching if painfully slow.

The way this thread is going we could put the garmin site vehicles out of business.

How did you modify the vehicle location point?

I have created a vehicle and would like to do the same thing.

I used the link (I believe located in this thread) to convert the built in Arrow vehicle in the GPS to a PNG file.

I then used Paint.net to edit the PNG file:

- Create a laywer to mark the center of each vehicle direction (you'll see what I mean when the PNG is loaded in Paint.net)

- Select and move each arrow to the centre point

- Delete the center point layer

- Create an empty transparent layer

- Save PNG and use that web link again to convert the PNG back to the Garmin vehicle format.

2880x150 or 2881x160 pixels

Just resize your image and try again.

i just got new icons from the garmin site, and have not even downloaded the new maps yet. i thought i could check the icons out online individually, and delete unwanted ones to save battery...which does not last very long at all. well, i accidentally hit open file with adobe, and i saw icons change. so i deleted some icons, and left the rest. now even after adding new ones and deleting all the old bad ones it wont' work anymore. it keeps saying "?" over the new icon and saying poor sattelite reception...aquiring sattelites and i can only go into some strange indoor simuator mode. help!!!!!

Has anyone created just a simple 2D custom vehicale icons like differect color arrows, cross hairs, cirlce with arrow inside or stuff like that ...
I only use 2D map on my nuvi.

Has anyone seen a vechicle that is just a tiny little dot? I would think this would be handy when geocaching on the Nuvi 500 instead of the walking feet that take up alot of overlay. Thanks

Azazel69, I've got a black convertible & have thought about creating a custom icon for it but every black car icon I've seen almost disappears on the screen ('specially at night). Have you found a way around that? If so, how?

I found it to be OK at night, but for me, driving a black Z06, I want to see a damn black Z06 on the map It's not glow in the dark, but on my 7-1/2" screeen on the kenwood, I don't have any problem seeing it (the roads on my map are yellow, white or red). Anyway, thanks for the input, I'm curious as to how to make it available for anyone else in the same "MUST HAVE IT" situation I was in
