How to make custom vehicle icons

That Tie Fighter came out really good. I added it to the List of custom vehicles.

I just got my nuvi350 this week and I think I may have just opened Pandora's Box, here. I used game sprites to make a MarioKart vehicle icon. It works great for me. Game sprites are PERFECT for making icons since they have LOTS of 360 animated .gifs that can be layered and added to an original .srf file. I can't wait to see what comes next with the creators out there. StarFox Arwing is my next attempt.

This is awesome work and something totaly different from the other icons... How about make a Michael myers character or arnold schwachenager...Terminator...I'd love to see someone make Michael Myers with a knife or something....just getting a bit carried away.

I know I don't have the 2D stuff worked out with the MarioKart, but just wanted to get it out there ASAP. Some tweaks need to be made, for sure. I don't know that many people use the 2D or what I would use for a 2D version (maybe just Mario's hat or something). Eh, either way...

There were a couple of '60s and '70s sci fi shows that have fun vehicles...

I have the Dinky Toy models of a couple of them. Is it difficult to film the 36 shots and turn them into Garmin vehicles? Here are the vehicles and some pics (not the actual Dinky Versions)

Joe 90 - Mac's flying boat/car thing, Sam's car (a sporty turbine looking thing)
UFO - Interceptor, Shadow Mobile, Straker's car
James Bond Series - the Aston Martin DB, GoldFinger's Rolls Royce...

I have noticed since the release of the snack time icon, that the techmods converter no longer supports the new vehicle conversions. I think they have changed something in their format? Have you tried using any of the new files to convert? It just comes across as a smeared image.

I've got a vehicle icon for a Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon, but not a place to post it. It's a little rough around the edges on the night time map, but looks great on the lighter day time map. Anyone have a place I could post it? Feel free to drop me a message...

i have several favorites that i have modified and would like to share with others in .srf format

can anyone advise on how to do this ?

I just put this one on my Nuvi 200, and my wife is still laughing!!! Super Mario for the NES was our favorite and we often still get the old NES out, dust it off, and play it. Now Mario is traveling on a road trip with us....lol

On a seperate note, has anyone considered making a website to host all these vehicle's with a jpeg preview of each so we could have all the downloads of the vehicles in one place? As far as the original authors, I am sure all you have to do is ask them and I am sure they wouldn't mind. It would be easier than a collection of links without previews.

i don't use the srf2png converter, but just tried it on the new "big daddy" srf. the resulting png is corrupt, as you found.

While I didn't download your batmobiles. I wanted to say great job and thanks for the step by step directions....

Anyone out there that can help get the medic.srf to a format so it can be customized?

I tried that website where you upload the .srf and then get the .png back but it does not seem to work for this medic file.

I just want to modify the numbers on top of the medic. Right now it set to 0001 and would like to have three made with the following on top

LA97
LA96
LA99

Anyone willing to help or steer me in the right direction would be appreciated.

it's a little more detailed than the original post on my blog.

at some point i'll get around to making an instructable specifically for 3d apps like lightwave and poser, but once you get the images rendered the process is the same as the photographic method.
