JCV file info needed

Wow, thanks. I'll go ahead and update my nuvi 750. I'll hold off on updating my 855 until someone finds out whether Garmin will be offering a large JCV file (as they've done for the past two map updates) to replace what I expect will be a small default file.

If anyone with an 855 does an update, please report back with the file size--and if anyone finds a Garmin link to a large JCV file compatible with 2012.4, please also post here with the link.

I have emailed Garmin asking the default 855 jcv file size and whether a large JCV file will be made available. I wasn't able to find any info at Garmin Support about this yet.

Thanks.

PS--The is a first: a map update announcement coming out before 2-3 dozen folks here ask when the new map's due and thinking it's overdue.... wink

Thanks for the heads up, Love the new map.

Nicely updated US map, Thanks smile

whoa

first time it's ever been released on a tuesday. Weird, but im not complaining.

1490 gets small JCV with 2012.40

Downloading 2012.40 Canada and border states now, estimated completion in 55 minutes. The JCV file (D3153050A.JCV) size is 43.8MB .

I called Garmin about a manual download of the full JCV file and after a 20 minute wait, the battery in the phone died just as I was about to get the answer sad
I'll wait for someone else to post the info...

JCV file for the 765t

The 765t still gets the full junction view file with 2012.40. This time it's 757 mb. This means the 855 and the rest of the 7x5 series should get the same one. Also, I used the lifetime updater this time, and it worked flawlessly.

Since you say the 765t still gets the large file--and since the 855 never got the large file, I remain hesitant to upgrade my 855 until I know for sure that I'll get the large file--or that I can download the large file from Garmin for a manual installation, especially since the nuvi 1490 just gets tiny 43.8MB file.

As much as I want the latest map and POIs, I'd rather have an outdated map with all JVs than the latest map with a tiny JCV file.

.

Took 55 minutes to download the Canada map and install map to Mapsource. After a quick look, doesn't seem to be any new speed limit data for Toronto GTA.

CraigW, you are wise to be hesitant. The 855 still gets the small JCV file. I also have a 755T and was able to get the large JCV file from that. I would be willing to send it to you, but it is probably too large for e-mail.

alandb states above that it's a small file.

So if you want to keep the custom large number of Junction Views you installed with the 2012.30 map (the manually downloaded/installed 750-ishMB jcv file), do not update your 855 to the new map--at not until we hear from Garmin to see if they plan to offer a large version for manual downloading and installing that's compatible with 2012.40.

The 855 is only use

by my wife on trips so she can locate resturants and fast food when she wants me to stop. I don't have to have the map update for the 855. I will wait to hear more on the JVC file.

765T OK

I updated 1 of the 765Ts tonight at just under 3 hours start to finish using Option 2 with no problems. It has the large jcv file.

I downloaded to Device and Computer and left installation files on the PC so the 2nd 765T, Zumo 665 and 255 should go faster in the next couple of days.

MyDashboard said the 765T had a firmware update which I did first but the sw version is still v4.30.

Funny, been poping up for over a week now

Thanks -

Thanks for the heads up. I'll wait about a week or so until the "got to have it first" crowd downloads their maps and the servers open up again.

2012.40 update

I updated my 1690 today. I chose option 2 from the options and d/l the mapupdater file. I was surprised to find it gave me an option to use my SD card and was able to install the full mapset to the SD card since my device only has 2 GB of storage without the SD card. Unfortunately, it put the small JCV file on my device.

I'm looking for the large JCV file when it becomes available.

Garmin should give us an option to to install map in SD. And, if the SD is big enough, give the option for either full screen or split screen JCV.

2012.40 JVC file for 885T

I just did the update and am showing the new file name is D3153050A.JVC with a size of 44,953KB. So we can only wait and see if Garmin releases the full JVC file.

It made me choose what area

It made me choose what area I wanted this time, couldn't get NA and Mex to fit. I remember Garmin CS telling me last year that the file size was reaching critical mass soon. I chose SW lower 48 for my 765

I wonder

I wonder if the large .jjvc file for 2012.3 will work with 2012.4 . Anyway, left it on my SD card. Will find out if it works during my travels to So. Flo-i-duh tomorrow !

I believe the jcv file is specific to the map update version. So I don't think the jcv file from 2012.30 will work with the 2012.40 mapset.

@windwalker,

I have 2 765Ts and a Zumo 665 all with the same 4GB size memory. I had no problem installing the full NA map and the large jcv file on all 3 units. Something must be eating at your memory.

Also, 4 posts before yours speedlever said that download option 2 on MyGarmin allowed him to install the full NA map directly on the SD card. You might want to check this out.

JCV update

...just a quick jcv update:

Garmin's Support web site still has no info on a large jcv file being made available for the new 2012.40 map for folks with nuvi 8x5 models and others as they have done with the past two map updates--and my email to Garmin with the question remains unanswered.

Thanks Craig

JCV Voodoo?

Regarding the small D3153050A.JCV file for 2012.40, Garmin seems to have done some JV voodoo. Using 2 test routes from the Garmin forums http://goo.gl/XznAn, I get 6 JV's for the US Atlanta route, and 3 JV's for the Canada route. With the large 2012.30 JCV file, there were 6 Atlanta and 4 Canada JV's.

Also, using @t923347's Toronto test route from 3500 Dufferin to Pearson airport, there are 4 JV's with 2012.40 compared to 5 with the large 2012.30 JCV.

It should also be noted that those who get the small file, all Junction View backgrounds are the same. No details such as overpasses, etc. are shown. They are no longer the photo realistic views that were in the large 2012.3 file.

GREAT! will get them!

A Garmin Software Support Specialist has replied to my question. There will be no large jcv file offered by Garmin for the new 2012.40 map update; and for the nuvi 8x5 series, the size of the jcv file that will be part of the update's installation is about 45MB.

New VS old

I have a backup for my 1490t. If I update to 2012.40 and don't like it, can I revert to the previous update with the large JCV file?
