NuVi 610T [mode: Truck, Routing Fastest] avoiding unnecessary routing via Narrow/Unclassified and Residential Roads

Hi Fellow Garmin NuVi & Other GPS users

I recently purchased the Garmin 610T(UK)
to replace my ageing Tom Tom, mainly because of its portability,
and vastly supra satellite reception, and Larger screen and traffic information service integration.

And firstly would like to say in most aspects, that I am very pleased with this unit
it being simple to use, and update with 3rd party databases

Such as low bridge information [extremely useful for drivers of vehicles over 10ft 6” high]
Drivers of such should checkout Nick Sundby’s POI add-on at http://www.lowbridges.com

As a frequent driver of HGV Articulated trucks,
The main feature that I find frustrating is the GPS’s insistence at attempting to route me down unsuitable roads, or through residential area’s, despite being set-up for “Truck” & “Fastest”

I fully understand that the weighting system for classifying different types of roads during route calculation isn’t perfect.

However it would be a great advantage to be able to disable
(or modify the weighting) of unsuitable road types.

In the UK, Trucks generally avoid, roads classified as “B” or “unclassified”
and have a preference for “Motorway” or “A” routes, unless there is no alternative.

I feel that it would be a really useful feature to be able to set something like:

Vehicle = TRUCK
Routing = FASTEST
Use Motorway = YES
Use A road = YES
Use B road = NO
Use unclassified = NO

Or better still ( as in Auto’route planner )
Vehicle = TRUCK
Routing = FASTEST
Use Motorway = 100
Use A road = 60
Use B road = 20
Use unclassified = 1

Maybe Garmin will consider this for future firmware update or later produce.
