Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

66 pages of dribble

A New thread?

You want a new thread filled with 'dribble'? That defeats the point, don't you think?

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

After an great evening...

with fellow Marines at a fundraising event, and maybe 3-4 glasses of wine before and after dinner, my 765T led me smack dab into the line of a DUI checkpoint!! Well, to say the least, I was practicing my alphabet, backwards and forwards, and everything else I've seen on "COPS" just in case. As luck would have it, the line began to move to the left, around this mess, and I found freedom! I was not drunk by any means but did not want the hastle..whew!! And that is where my Nuvi took, or I should say "led" me

Might have been a good time to have the DUI Checkpoint POI.....

I can only pray for rain at night. I recently installed solar panels, so rain during the day is a bad thing. It can rain all night, every night for all I care though.

daughter in college

Daughter is thinking about changing colleges. It is so easy just to put in the addy and go to check out the new schools. I guess I should keep a paper map around, but I am so spoiled with GPS that I just go. Will probably get me in trouble sometime in the future.

Last minute detours--

Heading to a friend's place up in the Gold Country (using the GPS), we came upon a section of road taken down to one lane for repaving -- expect delays of up to an hour!

Zoom out on the GPS, a quick U-turn, and bypass about a two mile long line of stopped traffic.

Combination of GPS plus on-board maps saves the day!

I've used a GPSr for many

I've used a GPSr for many years, starting with a GPS-2+ and currently with a 560LMT. Very handy.

Last trip my 560 took me to Tempe, Arizona (from eastern new Mexico) and DIRECTLY to teh warehouse where I delivered 35,000+ pounds of soda pop. Next, it took me across town to a plastics company, where I loaded peanut butter jars, and then the 560 guided me back to eastern New Mexico, where I delivered said jars to a peanut butter -- uh -- manufacturer???

Anyway, the 560 is doing pretty much what I need it to, finding address and previously loaded waypoints with ease, and guiding me around bad traffic jams if necessary.

California

I took my annual trip to LA to get my granddaughter and take her back to Iowa for one month. This time I wised up and programmed the Garmin to not go on the 101 through LA and waste an hour or so traveling 2 miles. At the end of this month I return to LA and return with my grandson. With Garmin I figured I saved one half hour or more going 30 miles around the city. It is nice to own a Prius and a Garmin.

It's sunday night ritual again

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

To the beach

To the beach, which is a 90 mile ride.

Then I kept the GPS with me on the beach and watched accuracy. It was holding at 7 to 9 ft, with one WAAS satellite.

Pretty exciting, huh?

Ironically my gps traveled without me as it was borrowed by family.

Windmill

Got to keep that windmill alive, taking a trip soon. This one will be to Myrtle Beach. Go by a lot of cameras in the Charlotte area so an up to date list is important.

Illiterate? Write for free help.

spoiled by 765T

I use mine every day as I travel from job to job in my service van. Couldn't imagine going back to paper maps. Kind of like when I first got in the HVAC business every time I needed to order parts or get tech support I would have to hop in my van and drive to the nearest pay phone. Now it is so easy to just grab the cell phone and make those calls.

Good trip with a 1350

In June we drove from Winnipeg MB, to Calgary AB, to Sicamous BC, to Kelowna BC and return, about 2200 miles, without a paper map, only our Garmin 1350. Worked very well. Curiously, the 1350 took a different from/to route between Sicamous and Kelowna.

I plan auto trips with GoogleEarth and as the 1350 does not support routes (and only 1 walpoint) I create a .gpx route
with major turns or cities in distance order. This trip had only 4 entries - same highway from Winnipeg to Calgary... And from POI_Factory I downloaded Canadian rest areas. Great trip.
