Notified by Garmin Drive app

When I fired up my DriveSmart 55 GPS this afternoon, and launched the Garmin Drive app on my iPhone to connect with it, as I usually do for enhanced internet sourced data, a notice popped up in the app saying updates were available, and advised me to connect the GPS to WiFi. When I got home and it did, the GPS showed the 2022.25 map update available and also a system update for the unit from version 9.3 to 9.4. Will be running those updates tonight using GE, rather than directly over the unit's WiFi. I'm not sure, but I think GE will be faster.

Wi-Fi is much faster. The USB connection will slow you down a lot.

Good Information

Thanks for update info

Excellent

Yes it is! Downloaded.

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up.

Whew

Whoa! My dad blam computer crashed in the middle of the update! I expected my GPSr to be bricked but I lucked out! I rebooted the computer and pulled up Garmin Express again. At first, it said the map was up to date. That couldn't be because it was only about half way through the installation process when the crash occurred. I navigated to install a different map and had it do that.

Surprisingly (to me), it picked up where it left off and completed the install without issue.

Whew!

This on an old 265W. Now to update my newer model.

why not 2022.30 instead of 2022.25

Do you know why Garmin updated this time within 2022.25 instead of 2022.30 or 2022.40? Tks

perhaps related to numbering of 2022.25

At least with respect to City Navigator, Garmin has the following comment on their website

Quote:

Note: City Navigator North America map version 2022.25 will not contain the updated exit numbers as they are still being updated.

My guess is 2022.25 is just a minor patch to fix something on the 2022.20 map.

So far, so good

Did the update, seemed to go faster than usual this time but everything seems to be working OK.
As noted above, is this just a minor patch or a very quick update.

So has anyone heard/read if this is a real update or just a patch, and if a patch what was fixed?

For what it's worth, Madison Wisconsin has recently adjusted several speed limits in accident and injury-prone areas and 2022.25 reports the corrected values. From this, I imagine that other cities/counties that report map changes to Here will also find their changes in the map. If true, this is a real map update and not a patch. I think I've read and observed on my newer devices that non-map files like maybe Foursquare and TripAdvisor were not updated to a 2022.25 version and if they usually are updated with map updates, maybe that's the reason for a 0.05 update rather than a 0.1 update.

Other thoughts, anyone?

Exactly as CraigW

after long drive with 2022.25 I got some feelings as CraigW mentioned, it seems it's fixed some speed limit, but not all, some bridges updated and some minor roads in the wood plus, but nothing is perfect, lot of speed limit still be off the radar. I got to be carefully to watch on the road sign than expected the alarm in the GPS when it's over speed limit.

In general, Garmin need to upgrade their hardware as many brand new cars now, it's camera to read the speed limit next to the road and appearing immediately on the screen, not based on fixed data every time to update the map and no need to have internet to update. I tested Garmin new one now Garmin 65 with internet, but it's not reliable and it still cannot read the speed limit right, despite in the city with full speed of internet from phone.
Again, I never like all new trends of many companies now that they need to use internet as source of update the data, some good but some very bad, especially around the wood, mountain and offroad, internet is like the joke of this kinds.

Some more about new update is about less data or like CraigW said, it's the same data of POI (restaurants, addresses, etc) from previous map. Actually, it's also out of date for this, many closed or opened businesses according if that area lock down within pandemic or not, but Garmin still not find anything useful enough to find pizza for example. But if you're local, you can find by yourself without GPS or just bought express pizza and cook by yourself at home

Sweet weekend folks.

Thanks for the info folks.

2022.25

I noticed that on the Garmin website for the 3590, that they state that the "Exit Numbers" are not up to date, and that they are still being updated.

Why release a map that is not totally updated.

I find it odd......
