Hopefully, the map update will go well for those with GE 7.6. My guess is that it will work as I sort of think the reason 7.6 was stopped being offered is due more to issues with the newer devices like activity monitors, smartwatches, etc. than it was for issues with On The Road GPS devices.
If 7.6 users do have issues, let's hope it's reported here, and which version (PC/Mac) they used as well as which GPS model has issues.

The update leaves things behind that might seriously impact the storage space on your PC. This last update for instance left a 8 GB, yes GB file at C:_ProgramData_Garmin_CoreService_Downloads_Map.
The underscore symbol in the location should be replaced with a back slash.
All map updates leave files at that location, which makes it faster if you need to reinstall the map on your device or update more than one device. I tend to keep the latest map files there but delete previous ones.

updating the maps on our 2455LMT and 2555LMT units. Decided it was time to start using one of our newest Windows 10 laptops instead of the old Windows 7 laptop. Installed the latest G.E. Version (7.7.1.0) without a hitch. And, as expected, had to turn off the “Keep Express running in background” option in settings.
Attached the 2455LMT and had to do an Add Device since it was a complete new install of G.E. All the maps and other updates installed in about 37 minutes.
Attached the 2555LMT and G.E. promptly crashed. Restarted G.E., added the device and the updates installed in about 30 minutes with no problems.
Garmin continues to do a better job of file cleanup on the Nuvi’s. No old SID, JCV or SQlite files left over from installation. Nice change.
Thanks for the post letting us know the map update was avaialble. We were traveling and normally do not check for or do any updates until we get home. Planning a cross country trip to the East coast this Fall. Hope to give the little unit a good workout!
Shazam!
Just reading about when the update would get here and what do you know; It’s here. Guess I will get started on updating maps.

The DL was quick, but the transfer to the GPS is the bottleneck. 1.2 MB/s is pretty darn slow...

Thanks for the update.
It will be interesting to see what the large JCV file size will be. Wondering if it's back to the normal approx 850,000 KB.
Yay!

30 minutes to update via WiFi. Not bad I guess.
The update finally includes the extension of the loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) in the Phoenix AZ area. Been opened for a couple of years now.

Updating now. Sucks doing these large updates on a slow broadband connection.
Don't forget to remove the installer files and old maps if installed to the computer to free up space. Example post of how to remove installer files on Windows PC's: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45648?page=2#comment-418223
