I would take less frequent updates if they could increase the accuracy - particularly Speed Limits and the POI database. Speed limits are often wrong, and there are many restaurants and hotels that have been open for a few years that are not included.
Both of these things a real shortcoming as compared to phone apps like Waze and Google Maps.

Naming is quite simple: [year].[number of update for this year]. You may get confused, that in 2017 they release 2018 maps. It's just marketing trick, so maps looks like "newest on the market". In reality they are at least about 1 year behind all updates that Here maps have.
If they stick to ancient way of numbering updates you will have numbers like NA NT 10.3 or something similar. But since few years back all programs have to have versions like close to a 100 at least, so they look like they were existing for at least 30 years. Have you seen any commercial computer program that starts from version 0.1 (for beta) and than goes to 1.0? That was ancient way of numbering new versions of programs.

It's because we're a bunch of old guys (and gals) who don't have anything better to do. And because we don't have anything better to do, we wait with bated breath for the next map release. Pathetic, I know, but it's what we do.
