Thought that 660 died.... NO... Not Yet!

Poor old Limping 660.... On way home from GSP Airport yesterday, and 660 froze... Pulled power, waited 15 sec, plugged in, and NOTHING!!!
Finally, disconnected the Charger, and went into USB port of car and IT LIVES!!!

When I got home, tried charger again.... Now OK....

Poor old 660!!! Goes on strike now and again, but refuses to die!!!

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

slide to the right to lock the screen

The power button on my nuvi 760 (same vintage) has two functions. One is slide to the left to turn on or off. The other is , "slide to the right to lock the screen."

760

Love my old 760. Keeps on chugging away. I agree that the power button can occasionally get pushed the wrong way giving the impression the unit is dead but it is merely in "locked screen" mode.

I do have the Nuvi 660 but how you keep the map updated since the new maps doesn't fit it's internal storage. Do you have the updated maps installed in your Nuvi 660?

Check my reply in this thread. It can be done:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/47351

I copied the entire Garmin

I copied the entire Garmin Directory to an SD card.
Map update is via this card only, not 660 connected via USB
Deleted 3 maps prior to running GE...
Ge sees the serial number from garmin directory on SD card, and updates map.... I then change the name of the files from what's there to names that will work off of a SD card...
I left last full map that would load on the 660... it was not deleted... By re-naming map files and leaving them on SD card, Garmin looks at Map off SD card, which does have 48 state maps loaded on them.......
