Wow, I thought McDonalds was popular enough to have an icon. Does anyone have an icon for McDonalds?

I just sent 2 McDonalds icons to Miss POI. I'm sure she will post them as soon as she is able and the timezone differences catch up.

I will be putting more chain files into POI Packages this week so that I only have to link things to one cover page.

Pretty small -- I didn't even see it at first glance. It is 24 x 7 pixels.

Ok, thanks. It looks like this is going to be one of those logos that does not shrink well.

Why not put "Five" on one line and "Guys" beneath it, increasing the size of the alpha characters to fill out a 24 x24 icon. I have never seen a Five Guys restaurant, but their website doesn't have a favicon and they don't really use a "logo".

That would work, are you volunteering to make it?

FYI: The posted "Wifi 3 BMP Icon" is a Bluetooth icon - Bluetooth is a totally different protocol standard.

Just thought I'd chime in.

I have changed it to reflect the proper use for the icon.

How would you make it? Couldn't you just use paint and then adjust the size to 24x24?

I just made one and emailed it to Miss POI. If your eyes are real good, you can even see the ® symbol.

Thanks for the upload of Five Guys. It seems the icon I'm always looking for is not there unless I request it. Now I'm looking for one for Boston Market , Food Lion, and Days Inn.

I will be uploading Food Lion from Bobkz later today, BobkZ can you get the other two made up also?

I assigned some icons to my waypoints via MapSource but some did not transfer to my unit because the icons used in MapSource are not found in my unit. Is there a way to transfer the same icons in MapSource to my unit?

No. You can't transfer icons from MapSource to the GPS unit.

Why would they offer the choice in Mapsource when you cant see it on the unit?

It is downloaded when you download your waypoints (pois), but to my knowledge (which is limited) you cannot download just the icons (without a waypoint associated with it) to your gps....

I assigned an auto repair icon to a waypoint on MapSource. Then when I sent it to my unit, my waypoint shows a grey square instead of the icon selected on MapSource

I just assigned towtruck icon (the nearest I could find to an auto repair icon), to one of my waypoints and it loaded it to my nuvi 760, was it a custom icon that you used, or one of the ones from mapsource?

Edit: On rechecking the icon it was an auto repair...????

I dont have the unit on me but if I remember correctly it looked like a car on a lift. There was another icon that didnt load. I assigned a happy face to a waypoint on MapSource and that also didnt load on my unit. I think the unit has to have the same icons as MapSource preloaded for it to work correctly. I could be wrong though

I chose an icon that is available in MapSource, but isn’t available on the nuvi 760 (a face icon) as an icon for a waypoint. I then downloaded it to my nuvi, it appears as a black square. It appears that the icons are not downloaded from MapSource, but the nuvi converts it to the similar icon that is available on the unit…. If one isn’t available it puts a black square…

So once again MM is correct…

I really should get a life….

As you can see I came to the same conclusion.....

But the car service icon is available on both...

Thanks for the reply, so its just not my unit doing that lol I have speant the last few nights messing with it and I am really enjoying this awesome tool!

Other GPS units do have the ability to accept Custom Waypoint icons from MapSource but the vast majority of the newer units don't have this ability. (But that's why it exists in MapSource since the program works with a variety of units.)

Now I have to check my StreetPilot III and see if it accepts waypoint icons from MapSource that aren't in the unit...

Why? because I don't have a life.

Here's a grab bag of icon related ideas:

Just so we can contribute new content where needed, do you think the new database listing could mark with a symbol the POI that have icons and wav files attached? I was thinking a small picture and a sound symbol at the end of each line in the "Alphabetized List of POI Files" or in a category listing...

Also, to help us select the icons we want, how about a contact sheet like this http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/silk/previews/index_abc.p...?

The image I just linked above contains a 1000 free 16x16 icons, some of which (shopping cart, camera, map, etc) I converted to POI icons (BMP 256, magenta transparency) I just don't know with which files they should be posted here.
