BMP Icon Discussion

I got the new Semi truck icon up on the library tonight, I named it Semi Truck instead of weigh station so that it is more generic and can be used for other things.

Miss POI, what size do you need them? I have them in 16x16 now..

I have set up folders for my different POI's now can i just add the POI Icon to the appropriate folder?

The ones in the library are 24X24 or smaller, lets stick with the larger size and if people would like they can shrink it once they download it from the site. It is always easier to go smaller then bigger I think.

Yes. Be sure that you name the file correctly for each POI file.

Where did you make these subfolders at? We looked everywhere on our 660 and can't find any icons being used by Garmin.

You create the folders on your PC.

LOL OK now I'm really confused

So I make this folder on my PC that says (for example) "McDonalds" - and inside of it will be a bmp icon of the McDonalds logo called McDonalds.bmp, right?

Then what's next? Point to them with POILoader?

Also, how does the 660 know when to use those icons, and where to put them in the GPS maps?

Be sure you have read the getting started and faq sections. The links are at the top of the page.

Also, at the top of the page are links to the Icon and Sounds pages. On those pages are detailed instructions on the use and installation of custom icons and sounds.

But, the basic steps are.

Create a folder on your PC for ALL your POI files and the associated files that you want.

Download the POI files, bmps, and sound files (if applicable) that you want to load on your GPSr.

Put all the files in your POI folder on your PC. You can create subfolders in the main folder if you want and these will show up as categories on your GPSr.

Name the bmps and sounds appropriately (see those pages for the details).

Run POI Loader and point it to the folder in which you have placed your POIs.

VOILA! The bmps will show up as custom icons for your POIs.

Do we still just e-mail icons to you, or is there a way to create content? I have some new ones for AZ and yet another red light icon.

Is there a way to see what the newest icons are? If not, can that be added?

Speaking of new icons, I would like to see some National Park Icons.

If you look at the Icons in the library there are a few that would be perfect for national parks. I have given most of the icons generic names so that they can work for multiple things. Look at all the tree icon files, those would work well.

Is there a way to associate a new Bitmap with a preinstalled poi?

Like, is there someway to point the Radio Shack pois to the bmp file I just loaded to the unit?

Nope. There's no customizing you can do with the built in POIs like that.

Ummm... That is not a Horse Trailer icon, It's the US National road sign that indicates a Camping location that accepts RVs or Trailers...
It was named "Camping.bmp"...

I created Icons for users realtriplev and tramus.

Since you do not have your contacts on, I will have to send them to Miss POI to get them to you.

I have Bass Pro, Wendy's, Subway, Blimpie, and Washington Mutual.

Some didnt come out to clear due to the lettering but they can be made out as to what they are.

not really, I just like to keep busy and love to work with grahic programs.. I love a good challange.

Also When I see a pic that I think I can use I save it for future use. Alot of those bmp that you see came as a real icon file that I use when I roll out other app to our users. so I just change them and share them..

BTW Bacth programs are a great thing..
