CSV Category File Format?

I understand the POI format for a CSV file. I can certainly construct and format what I need for that using the format lat/lon,name,address, etc.
I need help defining the format for categories. I can find no info regarding including a category or making a separate category file. I don't want to use a file generator app - I just need to understand the format and I'll take it from there.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to POI Factory, ksj! This is a good place to be. Many members are ready to help you!

Categories are not created inside the .csv POI file.

Categories are created by POI Loader when loading the POIs into the GPS. The names of the categories are based on the names of the folders containing the POI files on the PC inside the top folder "Custom POIs" or however you want to name the top folder.

Only one level of subfolders is supported. Thus inside the "Custom POIs" folder there are no POI files, but there are a number of subfolders each containing POI files. The names of those subfolders become category names on the GPS.

Thanks for the reply

Thanks, I'll try the loader and see what the file format looks like. The poi info is going into a new Acura MDX which has its own "loader" in the Nav system.

Acura GPS

What I said further up about POI Loader might not apply to a Honda/Acura GPS. I haven't loaded POIs to a Honda, but I don't think POI Loader is used:

Mary (mgarledge) has an FAQ for the Honda GPS that she figured out. It refers to .kml files:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42862

Mary shows how to organize the POIs. Here is how the FAQ happened. Also see alandb's comment about double categories in Honda GPS, and further down Mary's comments on categories:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/37938

There is also metricman's list of car manufacturers and links for updating:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/47422

Also see BarneyBadass' thread on Honda. Down near the bottom of the page are Barney's comments about his conversation with Garmin Engineering on shortcomings of the Honda hardware running Garmin software. This could be important! It doesn't sound like the same hardware Mary discusses at all! Mary's Honda was a 2014 while Barney's is a 2017 or 2018.

This is going to be an experiment. Start small, like Mary. Load one POI.

Start small but

Start small but load two files so they will go into folders. On my Honda Accord 2014 if you only load one file the POIs in the file will not make folders on my unit.
