Garmin Internal Memory Sizes

I can't remember all the internal mem sizes. So if your GPS and mem size is not already on the list hit Add New Comment and post yours. I will find the post and add the info to this list. Let's just get a list going for now (for us memory challenged folks) and figure out where/how to store it later. These are some I found in other posts and replies from members to this post. Also, I don't think the GPS suffix matters to mem size but if it does enter away.

Junction Views

CraigW wrote:

It also makes me wonder just how many Junction Views are going to be available on these units now and with future map updates. As far as I've seen, Garmin still doesn't state in any product info that the number of JVs varies between nuvi models.

The number of Junction Views (over 60,000 IIRC) isn't going to change. According to the video linked below, The Junction Views are going to work like this:

Essential: non-photoreal Junction View (full-screen)
Advanced: photoreal Junction View (split-screen)
Prestige: photoreal 3D Junction View (split-screen)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jizdL8S-ZVc&feature=player_em...

The non-photoreal Junction Views will keep the file size down in the Essentials line, but still will not be hassle free. By the time the new line is actually in stores there may not be a great deal of room left for the inevitable first map update.

The Advanced and Prestige models are where GPS enthusiasts will want to place their money. The Essentials series will be for the first-time buyer who is price conscious, not realizing the headaches that are to come.

EDIT: I see someone pointed out the Junction Views already. However, I'm a little more certain than that poster, not just because of the video, but because of the stock photos Garmin provided for each model on their website, which clearly show a full-screen JCV for Essentials units while the other two units get a split-screen photoreal JCV, with or without 3D.

The number of Junction Views (over 60,000 IIRC) isn't going to change...

Can you think back and find where you got this 60,000+ number?

At least for the current map (not counting the "rame1012" 750MB jcv file that many of us here manually added), current nuvi models that offer JV and have the latest map update and latest "official" JV files have widely varying numbers of JVs that can be displayed. The 3xxx series I think offers JV for most interchanges while the 8x5 series has extremely few.

I've never seen an official count and for there to be a JV total with the current map, it'd need to be specified which nuvi model is being referred to. At least that's what I've seen and read about.

I'll continue to wonder about the # of JVs in the next map update for each nuvi model until that map comes out and some folks report back on the jcv file size and their nuvi model and state whether or not specific interchanges have or don't have a JV for each nuvi model.

I'm happy to see Garmin now stating that there'll be JV, photo JV and 3D JV images depending on the nuvi model in question, but my real concern is whether the next map update will offer any JVs along some interstates; e.g., I-40 in northern Arizona on a nuvi 855 as an example.

Garmin's own marketing video

Garmin's own marketing video on Junction View, uploaded late last month to YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuHBhuhdM_M

The video specifically mentions photoreal Junction Views and shows the split-screen capability, but shortly after that mentions that while there isn't a Junction View for every exchange there are over 60,000 in the US and Canada. This video was released the same day the 2012 lineup was announced.

Submitted as a FAQ

I have submitted this to be a FAQ. When it is available I will redo the lead post with a link to send users to the FAQ to view the sizes but maintain this thread to receive new updates. The FAQ also includes a link to send users back to this thread to add any new sizes not on the list.

For now it is in pretty much the same format on the FAQ so user can quickly find, or not find, their GPS. Any formatting suggestions are welcomed.

External Card Memory Limits?

Does anyone know if there is a limit on the size of a MicroSD card I can put in my new 2350LMT? I was going to get an 8 or 16 Gig if I can. Couldn't find this information in the manual.

Internal memory of 2555LMT?

Someone on another forum told me that his 2555LMT reports 4GB on the diagnostics screen. The list above shows the 25x5 series as having ~7GB, according to Garmin.

Can anyone reconcile those for me? I'm trying to figure out if the 2555LMT has a lot less memory (for maps) than the 2595LMT.

Different models

@tahl,

Ask your friend for the specific model number. We have seen different models made for different reasons having different memory sizes. It could be counrty specific or some other feature. So let us know so it can be included in the FAQ.

Thanks

Welcome to The Factory. I don't have the answer to your question and hope someone else will be able to help you with it.

But at $26/yr for cyclops and since you're new to the POI Factory, are you aware of the Redlight and Speed Cameras POI file available here? They're available at a small cost or are free to regular visitors to the site.

http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles/us/red-light-cameras

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/27357

You can also add custom sounds and icons to the two POI files. For more help on Custom POIs, see:

New memory sizes

Thanks to CraigW and compman52 for the updated 2455 info.

I still suspect that the info originally received from Garmin Support for the 30/40/50 and 3400 series nuvi's is also inaccurate. Anyone with one these units or any units not on the list please use the DIAG page on your GPS and report the unit model and memory size for the FAQ. Thanks in advance.

I have been very busy anymore but I hope to update and clean up this FAQ a little in the near future.

All Nuvi 70 series came with pre-loaded maps of North America & Europe which usually translated into double the memory of models within that series.
The 3.69287GB sounds right for that model.
To prove it remove the SD card from the 270 and again check the diagnostics screen, the figure will remain the same.

If using Windows Explorer why not just check on the Nuvi and select properties, this will tell you the drives capacity, used space, and free space.
You can do the same with the SD card inserted in the Nuvi or a card reader.

I suspect the 270 is a 4GB unit with some of the memory reserved by the unit.

By comparison on my zumo 665 if I press the battery icon until the Diagnostic screen appears, the top line indicates there is 4GB of memory. If I connect it to the PC and check the Properties for the unit it reads 3,925,610,495 bytes or 3.65 GB. I enter this unit as 4 GB in the FAQ.

but still not enough space for current NA map

This is why I was so amazed, thinking that, OK I'll have to load the Europe maps to an SD card, at least I'd be able to get the NA updates internally. Wrong. Tried loading the entire NA map (unit didn't advise of remaining space issue) but once loaded all I'd get were Out Of Memory warnings and goofy route screens (go 0 miles, turn left, then go 0 miles).
Reinstalled just the Lower 48 and now it's happy.
